  1. I have an '07 RX350 that had a rattle coming from the back, sounded like the roof rack, or maybe from under the car. I found it to be the two little tabs near the hatch opening that lock the cover in place when it's pulled to the back. I pushed these two tabs down and forward, without the cover in place and the rattle is gone--Great! no trip to the dealer.

  2. I just bought a 2009 rx 350. And some one keyed in the driver side. There is one is 6 inch long . this one is deep. And the other one is 12 inch. i am so upset. i went to lexus dealer they were asking 500 dollar.

i tried quickx. it works very well. but i can still see the scratch.

Can any one suggest any thing...pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...

I agree to get it fixed right. If you have Comprehensive Insurance coverage on your car--you'll pay only the deductible.

I had the same thing happen with my Porsche Boxster. Five days old, still had the paper plate on it, "keying" was over the back fender, down the door and up onto the front fender. $2,600 later ($100 for me) it was repainted perfectly. I still see no difference in color after 7 years.

  3. When the "Check Engine" light comes on, it often causes panic--"Ohmygod my engine is about to quit--or something worse". It's not that the Engine is going to quit, it's some malfuntion in the emission control system. If the problem happens only once (say a spark-plug missfires), then after about 3-cycles of starting and driving the car, the light will go out automatically, as it did when the gas-cap was tightened correctly.

So before you panic, just drive the car for a little while and see if the light goes out--if not then get it diagnosed. Nothing critical will happen in the meantime.

  4. As you said...you knew going into the purchase what you were in for, so any complaint is really unjustified.

Ah, NO! Let's not call it a complaint, let's just call it somewhat laughable for a company that has prided itself on the "Relentless Pursuit of Perfection" for the RX they have been building for 10-years. It's especially laughable when some of the "features" that are missing, were present in several cars back in the mid-'90s. I didn't dig into the Navigation Manual in sufficient detail before I bought the car to realize I could not get an Altitude readout from the GPS, nor did I realize that the Trip Odometer in the Nav System would re-set to Zero, everytime I turned the key off--Stupid but not a deal breaker. I don't need an "infinitly adjustable" seat heater that I can't adjust with my gloves on--a Low,High and Off on a toggle switch is all I need. I got a touring package, on my AWD RX, which I would probably be driving in the snow, but have no Side-view mirror heaters--I had that on my '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The arm rests are too low for me, some vehicles have an adjustment knob to set them at a comfortable height.

I have a BMW RT motorcycle, and the original-equipment seat is very uncomfortable--is that a deal-killer? Of course not, but more than 1/2 the people that buy the RT buy an aftermarket seat.

I still maintain that for a Vehicle that comes from the "Perfection Company" the RX falls short.

  5. Has anyone noticed that there's no way to sort through your saved addresses in the navigation? I've had the car for about six months now but I didn't take notice until recently because when you have a short list of saved locations, you don't really need to sort the list.

Now imagine you have 50+ locations saved. You can't hit a letter and have the list begin to display locations that begin with that letter. You have to scroll down page by page, entry by entry until you find what you're looking for.

I just got a new 09 rx and find the nav system extremely confusing. The CD with the car didn't really explain how to store and retrieve address, among other basics. I'd used Garmin before and found it very easy. Do you have any information to help? I didn't see replies to your email topic.

    Capguy

I have the same opinion of the Nav in our '07 RX. We have two Garmins and I'd much rather use them than the onboard system (wife loves the rearview camera, though). We recently assked the dealer about an update and were told we should wait as there is a new update coming out that will be a major improvement (but of course it will about $250). I don't know what's in the update but I seriously doubt that it will be worth that price.

See my "Pursuit of Perfection" gripes above. And I'll add another one, I also like the "rear-view camera", however, when I'm trying to maneuver to connect a trailer to the trailer hitch, it would be very handy to have an "over-ride" so I can leave the camera on when I shift into Drive as I maneuver. Also, I agree the GPS Nav system is way more difficult to use than it needs to be. Garmin is sooooo user friendly, and the Lexus Nav System requires I keep referrng to the Manual--which isn't all that easy to understand either.

  6. After nearly 10 years of building the RX you'd think Lexus would have gotten a few details right.

For example, I have heated seats with a rotating knob to set the temperature--the knob pushes In/Out, to get it out of the way I guess?? but out of the way of what, I don't know. Once I have it set the knob near where I'd like it, wouldn't you think I could just push the button to turn it off/on, rather than rotating the knob to turn off the switch. And then next time to rotate the knob back to the heating position I want?

Another gripe has to do with my GPS Nav system. When accessing the trip computer I can select the "Trip Mileage". Who would think that on a trip, every time you shut the car off, to go for lunch or get gas or whatever, you would want to have the "trip computer" automatically reset to Zero--now that one is really dumb!

Any other "Perfection" gripes out there?

  7. Yup, dead in 3-days, that's absurd. A car battery should have a capacity of about 60 Amp-hours. To drain it completly in 3-days, indicates that current is being drawn from the battery at a rate of about 1-amp (and the battery would be dead in about 60 hours).

So disconnect either lead from your battery and put an ammeter from the battery terminal to the lead, and measure the current draw--make sure all doors are closed and all lights are off. Current draw should measure a few milli-amps--just to keep alive various computer functions and the clock in the car. This will give a clear indication that something is wrong with your electrical system. (If you want a comparison, just check the current draw on your other car).

Now you have a good basis to go argue with your dealer. If you can't make these measurements--then have your dealer do it.

  8. I got my wife the RX350 because most of her "Tennis Buds" have one. It's Flint Mica (so that's a manly color) but the interior is light grey (which makes it more girly). I only drive it when she is in the car with me--the License Plate is LT KNTR (Lake Tahoe Knitter), so when I drive and she knits, I make her hold her knitting up high so other drivers can see it's not me! :-}

  9. Hi everyone. On May 5th, I purchased a RX-400H. It camed with the pre-hitch package and no hitch. To purchase the hitch from the dealer would have cost $375. I opted not to buy from the dealer, but still wanted the Lexus hitch since it looks nicer when installed. I did some research online to find an aftermarket hitch that did not go around the exhaust pipe. I could not find one, but in my search I came across a website called www.lexuspartsonline.com. When I did a search on the website for the part # the hitch came up at a price of $212. I thought well this seems like a really good price so I purchased the hitch. I received the hitch on May 20th and it was exactly what I wanted. The main thing to know is that when you are on the website, you have to search the OEM part # PT228-48045 to find the $212 price. There is a Lexus accessories button for searching accessories and when you click on that button and find the hitch, it comes up with a price of $359 for the exact same hitch and on the same website. The dealer is Champions Toyota in Austin, Texas. If you live outside of Texas you might be able to avoid tax.

I did find a place that would install it for $80 in Houston, TX. The place is Master Hitch. I like doing things myself and will report back if I decide to install it myself.

Just wanted to spread the word where I found a good price for the Lexus RX hitch. :)

I tried to get onto lexuspartsonline.com but was unable to get it to search for the part. Anyway, I found the hitch--including the wiring harness--on this site http://lexus.dealerfit.com/store/lexus-rx-...rod397_3259.php

for a little over $300. Did your $212 price include the wiring harness? Probably not since it's about an $80 extra.

  11. Thanks again "timely" for the post. I was dreading the oil change on the 08 RX350 after reading how the whole of the underside panels had to be removed. The Lexus engineers must have been thinking for 08.

Only two 10 mm bolts had to be removed for everything to be exposed and serviced as stated in the post. The dealer had done the free 5K service and had torqued the pan drain plug and oil filter drain plug to the extent that I thought I'd have to use an impact wrench to get them off.

Indeed, the drain plug was so tight that the whole filter assembly came off and a half quart of overflow oil made a mess. It took some doing to get the oil filter drain plug off even at the workbench.

The plastic drain for the oil filter that was included with the new filter is interesting in that it also automatically removes the filter drain plug's O-ring. The plastic drain was not at all easy to insert into the filter. I'll have to figure out a way to make it easier for next time. Maybe it is easier with the filer on the car but it is not likely.

The pan drain plug did have a fiber washer that should probably be replaced. Next time I'm in the Toyota dealership ten washers, or so, will be purchased. That will be good for another 50K miles.

My 5,000 mile service was done by the dealer, and I did the 10,000mile Oil/Filter service myself. Again the dealer had tightened the filter plug so tight, the filter loosened when I tried to remove the plug. Then the oil leaked out down the side of the filter as it does with all my other cars that don't have the "little filter drain plug"--I guess it's there as part of the "Pursuit of Perfection", but pretty useless as far as I'm concerned. Anyway, after a small amount of oil ran down the filter, I just lowered it, with the rest of the oil inside and then dumped it into my oil pan. Since the bottom-plug was so tight, I could see no reason to remove it, only to replace the gasket and tighten it again.

  12. If you put in 6 1/2 quarts then you did right--it's not overfilled. Did you remove the little drain plug from the bottom of the filter, if so that may be where your leak is--the oil may not collect there, it may just blow back along the oil pan toward the back. It's sometimes hard to find a leak because wind blowing under the engine carries the oil toward the rear, so the leak seems to come from there. If oil is not dripping on the floor, it's possible that a little oil was left on the frame or on the side of the engine and you didn't wipe it really clean. There are only 3 places it could leak from your oil change--the engine plug, the filter base, and the small filter plug. If all those areas are clean then I would suspect that some oil was left on a panel or frame and it's just blowing back--it doesn't take much oil to look like a big leak.

  13. I have a RX 350 2007 with Nav System. Daylight Saving just ended but the clock still is stuck with DST time. I thought the clock is auto synch with GPS. And I looked and looked and looked and could not figure out a way to manually adjust the clock. For models with no nav system installed, there are three buttons below the clock. But my clock does not have any buttons below.

What bothers me the most is that I called my dealer and they had no idea.

Thanks in advance for any help.

So just to sumarize--when you press the INFO Button and select ADJUST CLOCK, for this time of year --Winter--set Daylight Savings Time to OFF--that will immediatly move your clock back 1 hour. All that selection does is just toggle 1-hour ahead and back--but it doesn't automatically select when DST is in use. Then select AUTO ADJUST to ON and leave it there; this will make sure your clock is always locked to GPS and is always accurate.

  14. Has any one had the tire pressure light come on? I just checked the owners manual, and like always, it says to take it to your Lexus Dealer. I did check the tires and they all have the same amount of air pressure. What could be the problem or how do I reset this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    2007 RX350

I recently had the same experience, and I was nowhere near a Lexus dealer. I took the car to a tire dealer, and they checked the tires and they were perfect. The light later went off. When I was near the Lexus dealer, I stopped in and they said it must have been a fluke, as they couldn't find anything wrong. Hope this isn't going to be a continuing issue!

False warnings can be easily corrected. (Just for reference, if a tire is slightly low and the warning light is on and you drive the car, heat will increase the pressure and the light should go out.) Now for how to correct. See page 306 in the RX manual. Set your tire pressure where you want it--I use 32psi. Turn the ignition key ON. Press the "Tire Pressure Reset Button" and hold until the Warning light on the instrument display flashes 3-times, the leave key on for about another 2-minutes. The Reset Button is under the panel just below the steering wheel. Hope this helps.
