  1. The wheel is not a standard finish, the stripes are not oem and should be removed immediately, they're an embarassment to the car. What I would be most concerned with is the air freshener. There's usually a reason for those and it's never a good one! :D

haha I agree about the air freshener! good observation.

Also, the tint looks to have a purplish hue. In my opinion that is not a good look at all.

  2. Maybe you don't realize that people don't always run to their manuals for every little problem...Accidents do happen, and assuming that he has no idea how to properly jump a vehicle is probably not correct.

I agree that accidents happen. I also agree that manuals aren't consulted for every little problem. However, while jump starting a battery may be simple, it is not a little or trivial problem/procedure. If it were, then the manual would not emphasize the dangers involved.

assuming that he has no idea how to properly jump a vehicle is probably not correct

This statement I don't understand. If he knew how to do it correctly, don't you think he would have done it that way. If he did know, then he was sloppy. Being sloppy or overlooking important details while working on a car indicates to me someone who would be better advised to leave the job to a competent tech or at least someone who knows what they're doing and takes care to do it properly. There are consequenses for doing otherwise. Take someone who forgets to put out their cigarette when replacing a fuel filter. You know what's going to happen there. Just forgot he said? How many mechanics do you know who smoke while working on a car? It's all too common, especially with the indies.

Some things are reduced to common sense and I suppose it escapes many people because of how rare it is. I do sympathize with Shy but urge him/her and the son for their safety and peace of mind, to read the manual for their car and not to take things for granted. I say, measure twice and cut once!

    Ok... agreed! :D

  3. My son was giving my 97 LS400 a boost from another car. He connected the positive jumper cable to the negative battery terminal of the LS and the negative battery terminal to the carbody of the LS. There was some arcing and it won't even crank. The dash lights, blower fan heater all work. But the car won't crank. The starter fuse 7.5A is good, starter relay is good, engine main good. Please help. Thank you in anticipation.

    ???????????? You're kidding me right ????????????

Positive to Positive ... Negative to Negative!!!!!!!!!!

No I'm not kidding, this is just what happened.

I say that because it's somewhat incredulous that in this day of tech advanced vehicles, people don't read their manuals. Even more so for a sophisticated car like the LS. In the manual you will find the instructions for "JUMP STARTING PROCEDURE" show very clearly the positive of the booster battery connected to positive of of the discharged battery, negative of the booster battery connected to body (negative) of the discharged battery car with a warning in the "NOTICE" sidebar that states: "DO NOT JUMP START UNLESS YOU ARE SURE THAT THE BOOSTER BATTERY IS CORRECTLY CONNECTED".

It also states in bold type: " TO AVOID PERSONAL INJURY AND DAMAGE TO YOUR VEHICLE WHICH MIGHT RESULT FROM BATTERY EXPLOSION, ACID BURNS, ELECTRICAL BURNS, OR DAMAGED ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS, THESE INSTRUCTIONS MUST BE FOLLOWED PRECISELY".

I've posted this information for whomever that either couldn't find these instructions or couldn't care less to read them!

Maybe you don't realize that people don't always run to their manuals for every little problem...Accidents do happen, and assuming that he has no idea how to properly jump a vehicle is probably not correct.

  4. too much i would think, btw i think the 93's and 94's had the burned out climate control problem more than the 91-92's....i have a 92 and it works fine...the only problem i have is some of my needles are only lit up half way across the needle

Contact BBA-Manufacturing about this if you want to.. they charge 175 to fix all needles, and with complete lifetime warranty. Turnaround time is about a week... depending how far away you live (you need to ship), but time in shop is only a few hours, and they send it back out same day.

  5. I don't THINK you hurt anything major. I did this on my LS (it was dark and I didnt have light...). I did blow a few fuses, but I replaced all them, but I was still freaking out cause the car wouldn't start. I then checked the circuit breaker, and low-and-behold, I blew one. They put the breaker in there so the surge wouldn't hurt anything else, so I replaced it.... $3 from autozone, and I was good to go. I had the same issues as you, but I have no dash lights on, and the car wouldn't start either.

the circuit breaker (120A) is like $3 from any parts store... this is where it's located on my LS.. maybe your's is different. ANyways, you should try and figure it out.. my guess is that this is your problem. My car fired up immediately after replacing it.

Here is it... circled in red. Its under the hood..its ROYAL PAAIINN to take out, but hopefully it will solve your problems.

  6. Hey, Thanks for the compliments on my Vette. I will have to try to take some pictures this week of my LS. I havent had a chance to do so yet. I am having the windows tinted this week sometime so I will probably try to add some after that.

    Alex

Oh my.. that vette is everything I hoped it would be! haha

    here is my old C4

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/835744 .. after the rear'ender, I put a 1.5" rasied hood on it, and full exhaust, and removed the rear wing, but I don't have pictures of those!

  7. wow... sorry everyone, I havent been around in awhile.. I thought my thread was dead by now!! haha

To everyone asking, YES.. ride quality is reduced. Do I really care much at all? Nope! Maybe its cause I'm young, but I don't mind having a rougher ride. Hell, I have an R6 and a 240sx slammed to the ground (VERY rough ride), so to me, ride quality isn't a huge deal. On the plus side, though, I get comments from people all the time that ride in my car that it has an AMAZING, smooth, ride. (what they DONT know, is that the stock ride is even better ;) ).

Highway riding is not bad, road noise it more apparent, but even with music off, windows up, a/c on, its not very noticeable. You need to be more careful when it comes to bumps and dips in the road, you don't want to bend a rim. (By the way, besides my 240, I have a F250 with 24's and a Jag XJ8 with 22's, and have never bent a rim, but I know it can happen.) You will get the learn what roads are worse in very short time, and avoid them.

Jcrome, car is holding up great! thanks...

condensed version: 20" rims make ride a little harsher, obviously, but I think it's worth it. (harder on your brakes and hubs, though) Road noise is increased, but not by much. if you like the look of 20's, check them! You will not regret it. If you want a real clean, good looking compromise, get 18's and lower that thang!

  8. I also wouldn't mind having a beautiful set of big wheels, but I don't want to decrease my MPG..... maybe I'll have to stick with a nice set of smaller wheels..... 18" 430 chrome 5 spokes are nice....

    jcrome

I have 20" rims/tires on my 92 LS.. but much do you think that affects my fuel economy? I am currently getting about 15.5-16 all city, and 19-19.8 all highways. Do you think I would be getting a lot better if I took them off? Or would it only be 1 or 1.5 mpg? I understand you probably arent an authority on this, BUT, I know you had a 1gen with 20s, and how a 2gen with much closer to stock size -- so maybe you know!

  9. hey Kid, I would think my readings are SOMEWHAT similiar to yours. Well, at least not as high as most others. I get about 15.7-16.6 ALL town, and 19-20 ALL HWY (a/c off half the time, when a/c was off, windows were down), with 20" rims.

My numbers too seem kind of low, too.

I take 3 readings total for each (city and highway). I fill All the way up, until the gas pump clicks off, no higher. Immediately reset odo. Run my car down to the gas light, fill it back up and seee how much it took and what my odo is at. if it takes 19 gallons for 300 miles... 300/19= 15.7mpg.

I think I need to get my car checked too!

  10. hp to weight ratio is what matters, i think the ls 430 would win myself, hes going to spend too much time shifting

I had a 300zx NA two years ago (too slow for a sports car, so I bought a 95TT).... the NA was honestly not a very fast car. The LS430 should win, it could be close, but the Lex should pull alittle harder. How good of a shifter the 300zxNA driver is could make all the difference though...

  11. Just some generic brand I think. "Raceland", I've never heard of them. I got them on an open-box special at ww.mufflermall.com $30!!!! :D

they have a lot of really nice mufflers and the prices seemed pretty decent, they are just a straight through type muffler.

I will definately be posting many pictures and videos when I get em on :)

This is the style muffler I've been looking for for awhile now! I am super interested in installed pictures and videos! I know you like the rev the hell out of it too, that makes me happy :) Maybe some drivebys or drive offs too so we can hear it under pressure? When are you planning on gettin these installed?

  12. WOW!!! I'm a big fan of simple 5 spokes, very nice, very clean....and VERY easy to clean ;) lol...

Looks like it's the offset causing the rubbing, if you lower it and roll the fenders they might camber in enough to clear...maybe.. just an idea (would look a lot better lowered too!!!!)

Bottom line... I think they look great man! Definately consider lowering it though if you haven't already!! :D

it is +35 offset all around... does that look about right? I'm glad you like them! I always liked your 1gen LS... on myspace video and cardomain... it was definitely one of the LSs that convinced me to buy mine a year ago :) I remember you saying somewhere that you just changed springs and not struts on yours.. is that true? How much does it cost to get the fenders rolled, and who would do that?

I had to order them especially from CA cause I couldn't find anywhere else that had the exact style I liked :) Only $1400 including tires, shipped! with a 3 years structural and chrome warranty!!

  13. I have had these wheels on my car for about 4 months now, but never posted pictures on here yet. Understandably, many think they are too blingy, but i really like them.

245/35/20 fronts, 255/35/20s in the rear.. and the rears rub pretty badwhen I am carrying a rear passanger, or if the trunk it full of heavy things. Would switching to 245 in the rear help?

  14. Kudo's to you guys for having such a great messageboard! I just bought a well used '90 LS400 that is in decent shape. The door locks, interior lights, and stereo didn't turn on for some reason. Checked all the fuses and then did a search on this board. Another fellow had it be a blown "dome" fuse up in the engine compartment. That fuse 'looked' fine in my case, but evidently it wasn't. Replaced it, and everything is working (except for a few burned out interior light bulbs). You guys just saved me a trip to the repair shop.

    Thanks again!

I didnt help you with that at all.. but hey.. ill take some credit for it! haha :D

  15. Hi Guys!! :)

    I hope you're OK.

Does anyone know of a list or website or whatever that describes what a person would most likely feel or hear [or whatever] if a certain, specific suspension part is becoming weak or is failing? If you wanted to know how a loose ball joint or upper control arm or sway bar bushing might effect how your car handles and/or sounds and/or 'feels' - how would you find out?

    Hope this makes sense.

    Thanks,

    Craig!! :)

  16. I am planning on getting some 19's again for my '92 LS400 and lowering it an inch... is it nessesary (im sure I butchered that spelling, that word gets me everytime) for me to replace the shocks/struts at the same time???

Anyone here actually running stock stocks/struts with lowering springs?

    Thanks!!

  17. Does anyone know the part# or have a description? I can't seem to find it with the search.

    thanks

The part number for the valve (air control valve) is 17630-16040. It should cost about $70.00 and should be available at any Lexus or Toyota dealer.

You can check for leakage in this valve by detaching the two hoses that run from the valve at the nipples where they attach to the air intake and manifold. Seal off the ends of the hoses by putting a screw or something similar into them. You would also need to seal off the two points where they attach to the air intake and engine. You will not do any harm by trying this for a few days. You might not even notice a difference in the car's operation.

    There ya go brotha man

  18. Thanks. I will look into the trans/motor mount, as it feels like a rotating vibration and I feel it in the controls. Im also wondering about the steering damper or whatever that shock absorber looking thing is under the rack. When I hit a small bump in a turn the wheel kinda jumps. Tie rod ends? Im a DIY'er to the fullest extent, but will swallow my pride and have a indie Lex mechanic look into this along with analignment. He did wonders to my Dads SC400. Oh yeah, My correct spec Kelly tires say 44psi, but the door says 36psi(OEM gumball tires?) who do I go by?

Go off whatever the tire says.

Hmm... weird problem. Well I'm gonna throw a couple ideas out there for ya. They might not be correct, but you can find that out, because you actually know what it feels lile.

    1. First of all, tires can get damaged internatally. This can cause symptoms similiar to failed/bad suspension parts.

    2. Obviously check your joints, make sure they are binding or damaged.

    3. Does it seem like a loose, bent or outofbalance axle or driveshaft?

A bad wheel bearing can usually be found be a throuough test drive. Bearing noises are found by noting if the sound happens when turning R/L or driving straight. The weight shifts onto the L side when turning hard R, and viceaversa. They get worse as speed increases, too.

But definitely let us know what you find!! I'm curious!

    cheers mate
