How many MPG did you loose? If your location requires ethanol to be added to your fuel you are screwed. Oregon requires 10% ethanol in the fuel. The result was a loss of about 3 MPG in my 92 SC400. I don't drive it hard at all and the driving style has not changed. The loss is entirely due to the ethanol in the fuel.

The worst part of adding ethanol to the fuel supply is that the net effect is MORE polution being put into the air. If you are one of those who believes Al Gore's lies this is a bad thing for global warming (now switching to global cooling). If, like me, you just like clean air it is still a bad thing. In addition we will pay more for our food because corn will cost more. Food for foreign aid will diminish or dissappear, and people will have to make choices based on not only higher fuel prices, but food prices too. Goodby mortgage.

Sorry for the rant, but that is the effect of ethanol on my budget and fuel cost. Of course the increased fuel consumption also increases the amount of fuel tax paid at the pump, which will probably keep politicians from taking the ethanol out of the fuel.

  2. In 1977 I drove a Stutz D'Italia convertable... The one and only car of this model built by Stutz. The price tag for this car was $100,000. That is in 1977. I kept the car out of a James Bond movie because we did not want to have the 20 hand rubbed coats of pearl laquer scratched during the movie shoot. My employer at the time decided against purchasing the car and Evil Knevel was the first owner.

Basically this car was a customized Pontiac Grand Prix, shipped to Italy it was converted to a convertable, fitted sheet metal modifications and MINK carpets. The interior featured gold wherever you might expect chrome.

When they cut the top off they did not properly support the underframe of the car and over time the car sagged in the middle, causing the doors to fit poorly if at all. I don't know if the current owner (rumored to be well known in LV) has corrected this flaw or not.

All that said to say be very careful about what you do to the top of your SC coupe. The top is an integral part of the body structure and anything you do to it should be very carefully thought out and the engineering checked by someone who knows what they are doing. That said a T-top or convertable would be nice.

  3. I have a 92 SC400 and the remote lock works exactly as you describe it. I have to be very close to the car, and there is no audible verification that the lock/unlock command has been received.

I am missing the little screw that holds my key cover in place and have lost two batteries when the cover separates. A piece of tape fixed the missing battery thing, but I can tell you new batteries don't increase the range of operation.

  4. The other day we finally had some clear weather and I opened up the trunk, sun roof, and door windows. To my surprise the right door window did not move. It worked freely without a hint of problems the last time I opened the window.

Checking the fuses it appears that the windows are both on the same fuse, which rules that out if true.

Is there anything simple that I should look at before I tear the whole door and window assembly apart to figure it out?

    Tom :(

  5. The screw that holds the clamshell around the electronics in the key is missing and the key fob opened up in my pocket. For some reason I don't have the battery that was in the key fob. Could someone please post the battery number so I can purchase a replacement?

    Thanx,

    Tom

  6. my 93 sc400 was stolen and recovered wrecked :cries: :cries: :cries: :cries:

looks like it rolled but who knows

i loved the car and will probably get another one but dont know if i should just sell it off to the junkyard who will only maybe give me a few hundred or try to hold on to it and part it out for more.

all the suspension motor trans seats most glass trunk and lots more is still fine and seems like a waste to sell it for scrap

just looking for buyers or some advice

    thanks

    djmicah,

If you have the air vent in the center of the dash let me know if it is cracked or not. If not I am interested. You can e-mail me at k7seh@comcast.net, or tom@sccoupe.com to arrange the purchase.

  7. As a newby I searched for web sites to provide me with the information I needed to learn a bit about my new toy. I was fortunate enough to find two very good forums, but no web sites. As a result I have started a web site that is intended to offer technical info, owner pictures, links, and whatever people think will make things better for them.

Since I am a newby I obviously don't know a lot about what I want to do with this page. I have found and saved several very good how-to photo essays from the forums, but of course I can't post these without their creators permission. This is where I am asking for your help. If you have documented the work you have done on your car and want to offer the documentation for posting on the web site I would be happy to put it into web form and make it available in a manner that is quick and easy to find.

    To quote Number Five.... INPUT

I have unlimited e-mail storage, so don't worry about large files.

This site is not intended to replace the forums, and the forum feature will not be installed here.

    Thank you.

  8. Another thing to check is your mirrors. My 98 SC300 has the heated mirrors that are activated when the rear defroster is on.

My mirrors work like a charm, and I have checked the fuse and swapped the relay with the headlight relay without changing the way the headlights work. I took out the trunk lining and found things in there are easy to work on, but no heater wires. I suspect they are on the sides of the window and I need to take things apart around the window trim. I spent too much time teaching a Datsun roadster owner about his car so I did not start that project. Next week.....

  9. I am new to the SC400 and love it. The problems I have noticed are possible LCA bushings or a ball joint on the right side, which I will look at this weekend, and the rear defroster does not work.

I have checked the obvious for the rear defroster, fuse and relay, both seem to be in good condition. Next on the list is to inspect the connection to the rear window and make sure power is making it to the window connection. My question is how do I access that connection point? Through the trunk, or behind the back seat and under the hat shelf?

I am also going to change the oil for the first time this weekend. Any suggestions about jacking points and where to put the jack stands? Things appear to be well covered on the bottom side of the car and I don't want to break something.

  10. does anyone know if i can swap brake calipers and rotors from a ls 400 , need to know , i know ls400 owners swap tt supra brakes , and we can swap tt brakes ,, but i can get the ls400 stuff for next to nothing

plenty SC owners have done this. I swapped my stocks out for some Supra TT calipers... be careful once they are on.. they will throw you threw the windshield

I have seen a number of references to the Supra as a source of modification parts. What Supra years are we looking for?

  11. As a new 92 SC400 owner without an owners guide I am always discovering new things. There are two switches that have me puzzled.

    1) next the the fuel filler and trunk release switches there is a rocker switch that is not marked. What does this one do?

    2) On the left side of the steering column by the up/down/in/out switch is a push button marked AUTO. What is this one for? It does not seem to do anything when I push it.

    Thanx for the help.

No 1 mystery rocker switch on a 2000 SC300 turns Traction Control System off.

 That was it. Thanx. Now to figure out where the power comes from for the rear window defroster, and whether or not it is a fuse, relay, wiring, or the window itself.

  13. I think I have located the interior fuse panel above the left side kick panel. I also notice there is at least one relay there. Does anyone have a layout of this fuse holder showing what fuse goes where, and maybe what the relay(s) control?

Are there any suggestions about removing the plastic trim around the radio/heat console? I have a few bulbs out and would like to change them all as well as install hidden switches in the ash tray area.

I am a new owner of a 92 SC400 and love the car. I have been reading all morning and figured out some of my problems, but the rear window defroster is not working and I am still looking for a fuse or relay that might be the problem before I get serious about tearing things apart.

  14. Hi,

I am the new owner of a 92 SC400. So far I find it is an amazing car, but I have noticed that the rear window defroster is not working at all. I checked the fuses and the fuse is good. Is there a relay somewhere that could be defective?

Another problem is the mirror mount is missing one of the three balls that holds the mirror to the windshield mount. Is there a place where I can find either that part, or a used mirror in order to replace the defective part without replacing the mirror and having to get into the wiring harness?
