  1. Hey guys....thought this would be the place to ask this question. My vehicle is a 2003 Lexus GS300, 55k....new rotors, rotated tires, and oil change as my last repair. Car had been in good condition beforehand. Anyway...

Have a quite noticeable noise coming from the left front wheel-area of my car. At low speeds (10-30mph), I can feel a loud thumping in the floorboard on the left side. However, at higher speeds, this noise/feeling goes away COMPLETELY. The sound was similar to that of having a flat tire. Also, intermittently, when I turn my wheel left or hit my brakes at low speeds, I can hear a loud clicking noise from the left wheel area too. Also, when accelerating from a complete stop, there is a sound like stones or pebbles rattling around in the area, too. I have no idea what is wrong....does this sound like anything specific to anyone?

Tires were just recently rotated, and the clicking sound had been occuring for awhile...just not as severe. The thumping noise/feeling is new (as of this evening), and the rattling noise is within the last month. Not sure what it might be?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I am having the same issue. Did you find out what is was?

My gs300 is still under the 4year/40k mile warranty so I'll have it checked out.

    Thanks

First noise sounds like a bad tire or wheel bearing, have it checked.

The clicking noise can be fixed by installing a front brake pad "Fitting kit" the dealer will know this terminology.

The third, "pebble" noise sounds like clattering, Are you using anything other than premium fuel? These cars hate low to mid grade fuel. Also, I recommend an induction cleaning, should be offered by your dealer.

  2. yep that's the way it works. one option is to keep an eye out on ebay to see if anyone is selling a used ecm with matching keys.

False, that is the proceedure for programming the wireless entry portion of the programming. The vehicle's immobilizer still needs to be programmed. (computer needs to recognize the new key) The particular Lexus dealership that I work at has a

computer program to re-flash the computer to accept the new key. This proceedure pays 2.0hrs labor.

  3. I am looking to buy a used vericle and I have heard nothing but good things from Lexus owners. I have a budget of about 12k and there are two vehicles I am looking at closely the sc300 and gs300. For my price range most of the two models I am looking have about 100k miles on them and vary from years 1998-2001. Is there any problems these years or having that many miles? How reliable are these vehicles and is there anything they are notorious for? Is there a difference in the reliability from 1998 to 1999 to 2000 or 2001? Like was there a problem in 1998 that was fixed in 1999 vehicles? Is the gs300 less or more reliable than the sc300? I am currently very interested in a gs300 with 94k miles, 20" rims, and a prestine interior for $12,000. It is a fair price according to KBB but I don't want the mechanical problems I had with my last vehicle, a cadillac catera.

You cannot compare these two vehicles in any way... the catera was a catastrophy.

    Lexus makes a great vehicle.

  4. I have a 06 GS300 I lost one of my Smart Keys. Lexus wants about 250.00 for a replacement. I found one (OEM same #'s) online for less. My ? is do I have to have dealer reprogram this Smart key or is there someplace out here that shows you how to do it yourself? The dealer whats to change to reprogram.

    Thanks

    JK

PS I was thinking I could just go the the dealer and tell them my extra key stopped working???

Buy your key online and have them program it... You will need a Lexus scan tool to program the key, there is no alternate method that I am aware of. Most of the time, they will do it under warranty anyway.
