Fixed!! This is the Idler Pulley which is only attached to the front of the water pump. This water pump is driven by an internal idler pulley that operates from the timing belt. The Pulley was $80.00 at Lexus dealer, and I changed along with new serpentine belt. Took all of 10-15 minutes.
Thanks for all who helped!!

Do you know where I can find a serpentine diagram? After further inspection and listening, it sound like the top center pulley when facing the engine. This is a small pulley with a single bolt in the center. Is this the water pump maybe??

idle pulley!!!
i BET its that...my last car was an altima and i decided to go like 120 on the highway once time for like 10 seconds and that did it in...it whined and seemed to be in sync with the RPM...turns out it was the idle pulley that was making the noise...try that out
Thanks for the help. I'll go that route first.
I do wind out my gears on occasion so maybe the high RPM's had an impact...

I have a 02 GS430 with 87000 miles. This past week the engine has produced a whining noise that is coming from the front serpentine area, maybe bottom right looking at engine. Definitely louder as RPM's increase. Anyone know what this may be?
Any help is appreciated!!

Back to the original question.....any computer chip available to increase HP?

I have a 2002 GS430 and I love the V8!! Period!!
My MPG averages are 22-23 around town with an average speed of 36 MPH, and when I drove the car from Boston to S. Carolina....I got 27 MPG per the on board navigation computer.
I agree with what was stated about the .5 delay with the gas pedal...the "drive by wire" does have a delay, but when you step on the gas...what a great sensation!!!
I Fear no one!! (luxury sedans that is) B)
Broken Exhaust
in 93 - 05 Lexus GS300 / GS400 / GS430

I have a 2002 GS430 and my exhaust (single) pipe broke in two behind the engine where the two pipes merge into one, and right before the catalytic converter. It looks like it just rusted and broke evenly. My questions are:
Has anyone else had this happen and what kind of repair was involved?
What kind of expense am I looking at?
Is the cost factor high for the repair to consider an upgrade to the entire exhaust system at a similar cost?
If anyone can assist with this I would appreciate your help.
Thanks
