  1. strange....I have bookoo miles on mine and the oil level moves maybe 1/4" on the stick between oil changes.

    My last 2 Lexus cars never had a problem either (with using oil). One of them had 188,000 miles on it when I sold it. I never had to add oil. Maybe I drove my IS350 too hard? Who knows.

    I don't have any dripping oil or smoke. The Lexus dealer checked out my car and said everything was okay - nothing that I could repair or fix.

  2. I didn't say everyone was having the problem. The dealer was aligning my tires and I still had the problem. There were a lot of other people with a similar problem. Google it.

    That is the part puzzles me. If not everyone is having problem, what is the cause?

    It seems everyone with this problem is refering to factory alignment problem. But if that is true, everyone should have problem.

    I wish I had a shop I can trust, but I don't. Reason why I do most repairs/maintanance my self.

    I have no clue what is going on. I monitor my tire pressure all the time and have it aligned at least once a year. I'm still having the problem and they can't seem to get rid of it for some reason. At least I don't have to pay for the tires.

    I didn't say everyone was having the problem. The dealer was aligning my tires and I still had the problem. There were a lot of other people with a similar problem. Google it.

  4. Uneven tire wear has been a problem since I bought my 2006 IS 350 (not a new problem). When I bought my car I purchased something the dealer was offering "Tires for Life" for $1,800. I quickly calculated the cost of replacing all my tires and concluded this was a good deal as long as I planned on keeping my car for a few years. I still own the car and get my tires replaced free when they wear out. The only requirement is that I need to get my tires aligned each year. There are a lot of Lexus IS cars with this problem of uneven tire wear. My dealer at first tried to tell me it was my fault but I showed that I had my tires aligned yearly and that other cars were having the same problem. They eventually gave up and replaced the tires. Do a little searching and you should find out more about this problem in case your dealer is fighting you on this. I'm going to give you some links on this:

  5. My oil consumption started at about 83,000 miles (last year).

    Prior to that, what was oil consumption like?

    It was normal, just like a new car. I never had to add oil. I just took it in for normal oil changes (I changed the oil every 5,000 miles). It just started consuming oil all of a sudden. I thought it was perhaps due to one of my fast accelerations that might have done it, but who knows. Maybe I pushed the car a little too hard at some point?

The dealer did an oil consumption test on my car and said everything was okay and consumption is normal so I'm not worried about it anymore. They gave me a printout about how to check and add the oil (in case I didn't know). They also checked the car to see if they could find any other problems since I had an extended warranty. They said everything was fine. I just check the oil and put it in when needed.

    How many miles before you have to add a quart?

    I had about 83,000 miles on the car. It happened last year. The document the Lexus dealer gave me said oil consumption up to 1.1 quarts per 600 miles would be acceptable (to Lexus). They ran all types of tests on the car before concluding the car was okay and I didn't have to worry about the consumption. They did this all free and gave me a loaner car as well.     PS - I guess I didn't answer your question. I drive about 1000 miles before adding a quart (more or less). It seems to vary and I add oil when it gets about half way down the stick (NOT A FULL QUART AT THAT POINT). I don't like letting the oil get too low.

  8. I have a 2006 IS350 with about 20,000 miles. I just replaced all 4 tires (Bridgestone Potenza 225/40R18 front and 255/40/R18 rear) with the Bridgestone Turanza ER33. This tire looks basically the same but has a slightly different tread design. My dealer said the Turanza would be quieter. So far I'm very pleased with the Turanza. The Potenza tire made a lot of noise and had some strange wear patterns. It was also very slippery on the wet roads. I think the price of the two types of Bridgestone tires is about the same (fairly close).

  9. 2007 IS250 AWD. Purchased new. 28 miles. From Lexus of Orlando in FL. From time I drove off the lot I had a hard pull to the left when I brake. Specifically, when I hit the brakes the steering wheel literally turns as much as a 1/4 turn, and the car tries to go left. It is always left.

    Took to dealer, included the description on every survey, wrote letters. With approx. 7200 miles, still isn't fixed. Problem is that the problem is intermittent. Have taken to dealer twice. They rotated the tires and cleaned the brakes. Unfortunately for me, I am an older woman, and therefore not a reliable witness. But I will not be ignored. I have not let up on my agitation. The dealer's next step is for me to see a factory tech when he comes in few weeks.

    Meanwhile, the problem has changed a bit. During the first 5000 miles or so it was a moderate left pull when I hit the brakes. Recently, however, I have had 3 distinct incidences when I was either slowing or stopping from a high rate of speed (say 50 or so), and the car literally fought with me to try to turn into the left lane. It happened today with my kids in the car. They are old enough to use bad language and DID.

    Anyone have a similar problem or possible suggestions of things for Lexus to check. I believe that it may be tied to the system that tries to stablize the car when stopping at high speeds because sometimes I can feel the wheel turning back and forth while I try to stop.

    I would check the following items:

    1. Tire pressure (both front tires should be the same)

    2. Front end wheel alignment (dealer can check this)

    3. Brake Pads/Rotors (maybe there is oil on the right rotor or something else wrong)

    Obviously something is wrong with the car. Does your car drive in a straight line on the freeway when you take your hand off the steering wheel? If so, then is probably isn't the tire pressure. It seems like I've had this problem before in various cars and it was related to wheel alignment. Maybe someone else can jump in and add their 2 cents. Good luck.

  10. I have a 06 IS 250 AWD. How many miles before you guy's have replaced the brake pads and rotors. Have any body replaced with upgrade parts or just OEM parts?

    I have 22,000 miles and they are almost ready for replacement.

    I had to replace my pads at 15,000 miles on my 2006 IS350. They resurfaced the rotors and put in new pads that should last longer and give off less brake dust. There is a Technical Service Bulletin on the new pads that come with the 2006 year cars and if you catch it before they wear out they will give you a new set free (if you complain about the excessive brake dust).

  11. well i have my is 250 and i got a tanabe medallion exhaust on it with my suspnension and my tanabe intake all in hopupracing.com or l-tunedparts.com but hopupracing is way cheaper i like my sound of the tanabe its quiet or should i say sounds like the g35 but hen i floor it, it sounds great i had it for 6 months and i love it recommended for the exhaust plus it looks great

  12. I purchased the "Tires for Life" plan for my IS350 for $1,800 due to the fact that the tires are low profile and wear out faster than normal tires. I have 15,000 miles on the tires and they have 7/32 in tread left (they replace the tires when they get to 3/32. In order for this warranty to remain valid I have to have the tires aligned once a year and have the car serviced at the dealer where the warranty was purchased. Based on the way the tires are wearing (better than I thought) this warranty may not be worthwhile. I got a nail in one tire recently and they fixed it free (not a big deal).

    I've always been hesitant on these "Tires for Life" programs.

    From what I've heard, the tires need to be so worn before they can be replaced that by the time you start getting close, the car is a death trap in rain or anything else that makes for a less than perfect driving condition.

    I also opted for a Tire Protection package which covers the tires and wheels.

    I do wonder though... does this only cover the original tire type?

    What if I upgrade my tires to a more expensive brand -or- larger size?

    Is this usually still covered?

    I would assume after-market wheels are not covered, so what about different tires?

    According to my warranty document, "...this Dealership will provide, at no cost to you, any tire if the tread depth has worn to 3/32 of an inch or less. You will be responsible for the cost of mounting, balancing, and sales tax (if applicable) of tires provided under this program. Tires will be new tires of the same or comparible brand and size on your vehicle as of the Purchase Date above. Only tires worn out due to normal wear will be replaced." They recorded the name of the tire manufacturer (Bridgestone) and tire sizes (225/40/R18 and 255/40/R18) on the warranty document. They said if the tire isn't available they would give me an equivalent tire. I don't think that I would want to mess around with changing tire sizes but maybe the dealer would work something out if you wanted to do this (or refund a prorated amount of your money back to you so you could get out of the plan). These tires are fairly "sticky" and actually a good tire for holding onto the road when cornering. My son has already given me a thumbs up on the performance of the tires.

  14. Too bad I didn't see this information last week. I took my 2006 IS350 into the dealer (Lexus Carlsbad) on Friday for the 15,000 mile service and told them to check the brakes that they were making a lot of noise. They called me back later saying they were worn out and needed to be replaced. They also tried to tell me it was my driving habits that wore the brakes out early (which is not true because I drive the freeway every day to work). They said they wouldn't need to replace the rotors and could machine them down. The brake replacement cost me $367 which I thought was very expensive for front brake pads. I just wrote the dealer a letter and sent them a copy of the Technical Service Information Bulletin that was posted on this Forum. Stay tuned.
