Car: 90 ls400 167K miles. I absolutely love the car. The thorn in my side is the $#!++/ power steering pump and the endless leaks. I've done everything from this forum, including a pump replacement x 2. It's been a ongoing frustrating struggle. I'd slow it down for a while, and then it was back.

I thought today about replacing the pump entirely with an electric pump. A little research turned up a few possibilities, but I wanted to check here first. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Has anyone ever gone powersteeringless for an extended length of time?

Can I just remove the pump and buy a new serpentine belt? Will this action screw up the rotation of something in the path?

My 1990 LS400 (many miles) has started having some resistance in the transmission shifter between all the settings (P-R-N-D). It never "catches" and it moves smoothly, but not nearly as easily as before. It's as if it used to move in light-weight oil and now it moves in something much thicker.
