  1. Ok guy's/gals I have a 94 es300 62,000 miles on it and just recently the weather got -9 car did't shift into 4th gear. The weather has now warmed up and the car will not shift into 4th gear unless the lights are turned on. I can be driving down the road turn the light swith off and the car will down shift to 3rd gear overdrive works fine. I then the lights back on and the car shifts into high gear. What could possibly be going on here. The tranny has been maintained and shift fine except this issue. Idea's HELP>

  2. Had the code pulled at auto zone came up oxygen sensor bank1 sensor1 I replaced the sensor between the firewall and the motor. My question is is any other reason or issue I could have had except the sensor needing to be replaced. I have cleared the code by removing the EFI fuse and then replaced it. I guess i will wait to see if the check engine light returns. What do you all think.

  3. Depending on miles/years/wear rate the engine may not be able to produce enough HP/torque to move you forward at interstate speeds before descenting into the "lugging" zone. Are you may have fueled with an unusually low fuel grade, below tolerance, the engine started pinging and even before your ears detected it the engine ECU took over and said no overdrive.

    The car has 54,000 mile on it and runs like a champ. Shifts through all the gears fine just no over drive.?????

    I went through exactly the same problem for 2 months took it to Lexus in Hawaii and they told me it would cost about $1,300 to replace the computer. Found a mechanic who rebuilt mine for $450

    the name of the his shop is ML Autotronics in hawaii. Car has been running perfectly since then.

    Butch003 did your's ever through a code.? Did your's shift fine through all the gears and overdrive for several days then not shift into overdirive say in the morning then after sitting work fine again??? This is driving me crazy I love this car but I have to have overdrive you know what I mean. Can a person order a new computer and replace it themselves.?

  4. I have a 94 es300 55,000 miles on it. No codes are coming up Cars runs great I have 2 questions.

    1. Last night the Temp. here got down to 45 Deg. when I started the car I assumed it would idle high for a period of time then reduce to normal. What should the cold start up idle be? It didn't idle any higher than it normally does.

    2. The car would not shift into overdrive on the way to work. It is a 15 mile drive on the interstate at 70 miles per hour. On the way home no issue. I would certainly think some where along the way to work it would have warmed up enough to shirt to overdrive. This is the second time this has happened in the last week.

  5. I had simliar problem on my 94 ES300 at 171K mileage. At first Lexus did a diagnostic which revealed that both the speedometer sensor and the ECU were having issues. They determined the cost to replace the speedometer sensor was less and thought the other code malfunction (might) go away if the speedometer sensor was replaced. They were wrong: The changing of the speedometer sensor did nothing. In the end they replaced the ECU and the issue has gone away.

    The codes were P0500 and P0720.

    Other symptoms which I experienced was the OD indicator light would flash if the OD button was depressed. If not depressed, no flashing. This is because it never left 3rd gear. Also, my check engine light came on intermittently.

    The dealership did agree that the ECU should have been replaced first and not the speedometer sensor, therefore the cost of the first job was credited against the final cost.

    Ok what about the Vechile Speed Sensor, could it be bad. Today the car shifted into overdrive and had no issues on the way to work on the interstate however coming home air on the car came out of overdrive then back in and back out three times then was fine again. ??????????????

    Could I have an air conditioning issue that would cause this it doesn't happen when the air is off. ???

    I don't have any check engine lights, no blinking o/d light nothing out of the ordinary. I think it may have something to do with the braking senor or something may the system thinks the brakes are being applied???????????

  9. Here is the delima:

    The Regulator stopped pushing fuel into the intake manifold.

    If the Regulator had a hole in the diafram you would think it would leaking all the time?

    Could there be a pressure build up causing the push back through the Regulator.

    Haven't replaced the Regulator yet it hasn't arrived. I will though.

    Could the charcol canistor or gas cap cause a pressure build up.?

  10. Ok guy's my Fuel presure regulator is allowing gas to enter the intake manifold. I been having starting issue's after driving the car then it sits for an hour or so. It would act as if it was flooded. I took a piece of clear vacumn hose attached it to the fuel presure regulator and then back to the vacumn rail. I drove the car for 1/2 an hour let it sit and watched the clear vacumn hose after 10mins fuel started to come out of the presure regulator go up the clear vacumn hose and go down into the intake manifold this continued for about an hour.

    Is this how it is desined to work?? I think the presure regulator is bad. ?? Shoudn't the fuel be sent back to the return line.?

    Thanks I have ordered one. Do you know if there is a check ball or something in the regulator? Just wondering cause last night I taped on the regulator today I started the car drove around let it sit and now no fuel is going up the vacumn line and into the intake manifold. Strange isn't it. Well it getting replaced thats for sure.

  12. My 94 es300 is hard starting after I drive it then let it sit for an hour in the hot weather here in Iowa. I have cleaned the entire iac assembly replace pvc valve new plugs new air filter as well. The car starts and runs great when it is cold or turned off for 10 mintues or so. Any idea's on what to try next. The car only has 54,000 on it.

    What next. ?

    Could this be an issue with the VSV????

  13. since the web site crashed i will repost about my starting problem incase someone replied and i didnt get a chance to see it.

    my car starts fine in the morning but after i drive it awhile and go to restart it i have to crank alot for it to start.i still cant figure this out!any help is appreciated!

    Did you ever find out what the issue/cause was my 94 is doing the same thing. Any help would be great.
