I wish more people understood this very statement.

One of my daughters friends (16 years old) asked me what kind of modifications would I do to her Acura RSX to improve the performance. I said "before you modify the car, modify the driver"......

This is why I never even look at 0-60 specs when looking at a car. Of course, it helps that I'm a girl. It seems like guys tend to obsess more over that.

This was actually discussed a few weeks / months ago. The seats' fans suck up air from the footwell, so if you're not directing some of your AC at your feet the seats are just going to push that warm stuffy air to your butt and back.

Try setting the AC to put more air towards your feet and see if you can tell a difference.

I really wanted this color because it's got such a pearlescent beauty, but I saw a few-days-unwashed one on the dealer lot and could really see all the dust and pollen. So I took their only desert sage instead - it's a unique color and I've only seen one other one in the Bay Area so far.

Plus, that dark a car + black leather = stifling in the summer. :)

Yeah, if you're not doing mostly highway driving, your mileage is going to be a lot lower. When I'm doing city driving I get around 18mpg.

I average about 28-30mpg on a tank. I, too, make an effort to drive with a light foot so that might partly explain why. Also, ECT power mode seems to reduce mileage a bit.

I have a 2007 Lexus IS 250 and it has become obvious that the engine sounds very good, but the exhaust sound doesnt not exist, do you guys know of any good systems for the IS 250, and if so a website or info?

I always heard it was because cars don't have any, uh, protrusions.

The brakes on my IS250 are very, very grabby. At first I hated it, but now I love it. I have to be real gentle for normal stopping, but for "omg a cat darted out into the road" the car'll stop on a dime.

I can't decide whether I want to take advantage of this or not.

After looking at that picture, I have to say that whether or not your airbags deployed should be the least of your worries. Were you in the car at the time? Did you walk away? That's what's important, especially since the owner's manual specifies that rear-end collisions are designed not to deploy the airbags.

I just recently bought an IS250. The car looks great, but I am curious to know if anyone has tried to put the rear wheels on the front. I am thinking about buying two more rear wheels and tires to put on the front. Has anyone attempted this??? I'm curious to know if you will have enough clearance under the front wheelwell. Thanks!!! When I got my 250 the dealer informed me that the rear tires are slightly bigger than the front tires so you can't put them on the front wheels. This may or may not be true, definitely check with your dealer before attempting it.

In ECT power mode, the problem all but disappears. I wonder if they had to make the normal transmission a little "looser" so they could get more mpg or whatever out of it.

I am a newbie to this forum and planning to get a new ride by 2008 summer/fall (yep, '08, not '07) and starting with my homework considering various options. Based on my initial impressions, I am very interested in IS 250 AWD.

I know this might be a bit early, but are you aware of any rumors/confirmed reports for a potential IS facelift (either '08 or '09 model)? I am pretty sure that Acura TSX/TL & Audi A4 are going to have a complete re-design for 2009 models, and there are rumors for a BMW 3-series facelift for 2009 model as well.

Any news on Lexus IS yet? Thanks in advance for your inputs.

Personally I doubt it since they just got a redesign for '06.

And I'm actually a little afraid of using the manual mode, because I'm still breaking it in and the "gear indicator" display mode shows that the automatic's already in 5th gear at 30mph.

If I get adventurous I'll try it out and see if it changes anything.

You must not have rolling codes, which require pressing a button on the opener itself, and re-pressing the Homelink. Gonna buy new batteries for the remote and try again.

I wouldn't be surprised. Our garage door opener was new with the building in 1978.

I guess I lucked out - the girl who sold me my car set all that up for me. She showed me how - hold the remote next to the mirror, hold down the homelink button and then hold down the remote button. It'll start flashing slowly, and then when it flashes quickly it's done. It took us a couple of tries, though.

I'm encountering a performance oddity. I have an 07 RWD IS250, automatic, and I'm noticing that the engine lurches when I accelerate from a stop. It's something I would expect from a manual transmission, but not a luxury automatic.

I can mitigate the issue by being extremely gentle with the gas pedal, but I'm surprised that I should need to. My automatic Corolla didn't have this issue, but my manual Neon did (back in the day). At the time I chalked it up to the Neon being a crappy car.

Is this a common thing? Is it just something with the transmission? Note, I run without the ECT - no "power" and definitely no "snow" mode. The car only has 500 miles on it so I'm still babying it for the "break in" period.

Now, about the door handle cups...

Try searching for a 3M PPF Installer or VentureShield installer in your area. The Lexus dealer should be able to have someone install it for you, too. Just shoot local installers emails and ask how much door cups would cost.

If you would like to tackle it yourself, which I'm sure you could with patience, check out Xpel.com for bulk film, installation tools, and instructions.

... For a question about the door handle cups, y'all sure are focusing on whether or not I wasted my money on Perma Plate. (Thanks to just08 for overcoming the tunnel vision.)

I'm not saying it's a miracle cure-all and that I can avoid, you know, washing my car, but for my money and the deal I got it was worth it, especially considering the lifetime free car washes I got out of it. (And no, I can't do it myself for a multitude of reasons.)

It's a part of my trying to take care of my new shiny, not the entire thing.

Now. About those door handle cups...

I wish you had asked us about the "Perma Plate" treatment first, its a complete waste of money.

I got it more out of concern for my interior than the exterior paint. The treatment does both, and I have the "cashmere" interior that seems to show dirt, etc, very well. I've had problems with birdpoo and tree sap with cars in the past, and if it doesn't protect against those then I'll get my money back. As far as it being as good as a good wax, well, this is something I only have to do once a year instead of once a month. And I'm nothing if not lazy.

Is there a stickied list of recommendations for clear bras (I hate that term...) - ie, vendors, installers, etc - around the forums? I admit to mostly sticking to this IS sub-forum.

I bought an IS 250 earlier this month from Putnam Lexus. (I do recommend them, btw...) I love everything about my car. I want to keep it looking as pristine as possible for as long as possible. It's currently in the shop to get the Perma Plate treatment today, in fact. (They gave me a loaner RX 400h which looks inside like a family of four and various wild animals have been living inside it for weeks.)

My biggest concern at the moment is, interestingly, the door handles. The recessed area of the door handle, while very pretty, seems to scratch very easily. Brushing my fingernails against it, in the act of unlocking and opening the door, is enough to scratch the paint. And let's not get into any jewelry we might be wearing.

Are there any appliques or protectants or something I can use to help alleviate this, or should I take it as the price of buying a nice new car?
