  1. Thanks for previous post, but I know how to set the buttons. I went back to the dealer yesterday. After my seat was unplugged by the dealer for previous work it had to be "initialized" again- to do this you take the seat all the way up - all the way back, tilt all the way forward and then back. Unfortunately it's not in the owners manual and the service rep wasn't familiar with it. A real pain when they don't give you info.

Any one got an owners manual as PDf file ( 2004 SC430) . I just bought it over the weeked and it didn't come with an owners manual.

    Thanks,

  2. OK real world, here are the absolutely necessary mods to do to your ride.

    1. Have a good invisible bra such as 3M put on asap. The SC430 is known for picking up hood and front end chips. You will be happy you put it on. (400-600 dollars)

    2. Get a set of clear front mat covers. They totally enclose the mat, keep it clean, and free of mud, etc. (60 dollars)

    3. Get a set of magnetic door protectors. Park in the North 40. Have nots love to ding your doors. (25 dollars)

    4. Go to Cosco and get a bundle of microfiber towels, great for wiping down your wet or dewy vehicle. (10 dollars)

    5. Seriously consider a good alarm system with a blinking light, mount it next to the headling washer switch. I have a viper with remote start......Very cool. (500 dolllars)

    6. Front and side window tinting. (200 dollars)

These are the items that protect your vehicle and provide you with greater enjoyment and peace of mind. David

  3. Great work, Rich!

The importance of having an electrical diagram can not be over emphasized. Personally I spent way too much time searching forums for information on how to connect our phone kits until I found out that the electrical diagrams gave the wire colors for the functions needed.

If a car is under its basic warranty, it could be an issue to cut into the audio/nav system wiring harnesses. My Lexus dealer told me that the warranty on the audio system would be voided if I cut into its wiring harness so I went to great pains to find a way to tap into the OEM phone harness without cutting or even splicing into any wires. Would that really have been the case if the audio system had failed during the warranty period? I don't know but it sure scared me off.

Likely the main reason that installers want to use a "junky external speaker" is that they don't want liability for frying a multi-thousand dollar audio/nav system. Who can blame them. Besides, the sturdy little external phone speakers on our cars provide crystal clear sound - certainly no worse than on any OEM phone system I've heard. But my opinion might be different if there were no good places under our dashes to mount speakers.

Your SC430 project proves still again that one just has to "dig in" to a problem to come up with a solution.

  4. Has anyone come across a kit for fitting an iPoD into the cars stereo system - an mp3 player is the one thing that is missing in this otherwise perfect car?!

  5. Hey I know the recommended pressure is on the inside of the door but how about for low profile tires?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Look on your tire for maxx tire presure and drop it about 5lbs. read other threads also have this info!!

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I hope you're kidding about that.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    Could you explain why?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

So what are you saying? I am saying as a gerneral rule whatever the maxx presure is on the side wall of the tire take about 5lbs off. I am not talking about any door sticker as the original question was asked it was NOT refering to stock tires, and what does 37 psi on a 40 profile tire have to do with anything? You never said what the maxx tire presure is on that tire?

A good all around tire pressure, to start with, would be 35 PSI. If a tire has a max PSI of 55, I certainly wouldn't run it at -5 or 50 PSI.

For example, the rear tires on my IS350 are 255/40/R18 and they run at 37 PSI. I think that's a pretty low profile.

    Thanks,

Remove the nav cld and vent next to it and the door has a rod that moves up and down. It was broke on mine and I just fixed it this morning. Mine the door with open side wayes.

any advice on how to fix radio and navigation doors that won't move? Any advice would help. Also remote will not beep when alarm is activated.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post. I appreciate it. I know what you mean about the rear seat. It's preposterous. I would almost rather have no back seat at all, and just better legroom, which I'm not sure is an issue, anyway. One of our other cars is a Jaguar S Type that features similar performance, many of the same interior comfort and convenience features, and back seats that ar marginally more useful, but our kids don't like sitting back there, either. Fortunately, we're just getting past the minivan/SUV stage in our lives and no longer need a large vehicle to haul our kids around in. Two of them are driving and the youngest doesn't get a vote.

I'm a little concerned that you feel the 430 is too small for you. I'm an XL guy and I know I wasn't going to be comfortable in cars like the Benz SLK. I felt way too cramped and shoe horned in. I was expecting (hoping) that the 430 would have more lateral and fore/aft room at the driver's seat. I don't really care about the trunk space.

If the SC 430 doesn't seem like it's going to work for me though, I'm just going to give up and buy a C5 Corvette convertible.

  8. This was a kit that you got from the web site or did they sent text on "how to"?

Can you post some picture. Any one has pictures or text Email me shaw2010@netscape.net

    thanks

has anyone had a look at this: http://www.coastaletech.com/basic_lockpick1.htm

Sounds very interesting to me, especially the ability to use the phone dialing while in motion. Also sounds simple to install, with no "under the dash" stuff.

I have a 2004 LS430 and installed the Lockpick 1 in it. My experience has been very satisfying. I ordered it on a Saturday night, and got it the following Thursday afternoon. Removing the radio was fairly easy, but removing the navigation system was a little scary. I just recommend you take your time and be very careful when removing and replacing any and all parts of the dash. Use towels to protect the wood, and cover prying tools with tape. A magnetic phillips screwdriver, and a # 8 box end wrench are a necessity. The instructions that come with the Lockpick are of no help in installing it in a LS. As far as how it works, it has done everything I expected. I can use my bluetooth phone features and insert destinations while driving. I also have a direct RCA input for my MP3 player, although on a strong radio station I have gotten some feed thru between songs, but not frequent enough to be concerned about . I have not tried the video part yet, and see no reason why I will. I also like it when you start the car and the "I Agree" scene comes on and within seconds the I agree button lights up, and the map screen appears. I think it was an excellent investment, and the 60-90 minutes it took for the install was well worth it.

"Removing the radio..."?? I thought it was a simple connection under the driver's seat. According to the web page, it's a 5 minute deal. I also have a 2004 LS430 and in no way am I going to remove the radio and nav system! How long ago did you install yours?
