  1. yep only thing is they want $2200 to diagnose - not worth $2200. I thought their was a ohm test etc etc

Yeah man, slow down. Air bags are not something you can just drop in unless you know what your doing. I would at this point, take it in to the dealer. Have them hook up the ODB II and make sure the crush sensors are cleared. And that there isn't any message in the sytem that is still telling the car to deploy the airbags so fourth, and to make sure the trigger sensors are working properly. Then, once it's clear, you can hook up the airbags.

The airbag system works together with the antilock brakes, seatbelts, and sensors placed around the car. You might want to make sure they are all working right before you go any further.

  2. Yes the car has been repaired. I replaced the Airbags myself. I connected the harness for the roof airbag, however I noticed today that under my drivers seat the airbag harness is not connected. I'm wonder why its disconnected - i.e I'm fearing if I connect the harness, would it deploy the drivers and roof airbags...

Who did the airbag replacement? Only the 2 airbags went off? Has the car itself been repaired?( I mean the damage from the accident.) Sometimes when the body shop fixes the damage, they don't replace the sensors or reset the crush sensors in that area of the car. As it sounds like the airbags were fixed seperately? so they wouldn't have been able to check them. So, you'll probably have to take it in and find out if the sensors are good or need to be replaced.
  3. My AIRBAG light is always on(not blinking) on my dash. I Was wondering if their is a way to reset it or test this? I bought my 2002 IS300 with the drivers and rear drivers side doors hit( accident). The drivers side Roof and drivers seat airbags were deployed, however I replaced those two air bags a couple of days ago and now all I see is a solid Airbag light on my dash. What would be the best way to diagnose this problem?

  4. Ok this morning i performed an ohm test on the two front 02 sensors on my IS300. It was 49F outside and both O2 sensors up front read 13.0(engine cold). I then started the car, fully warmed it up, temp guage was dead center. with the engine running, I performed another read of 17.8 on both sensors up front. Not sure what to make of this since in the book it shows 23-32 warm and 11-16 cold. Is it possible that at idle temps aren't near 1472F to reach anywhere near 23+ ohms.

    service book temps 02 sensors:

    [11-16] - when its 68F

    [23-32] - when its 1,472F

ALSO the manual shows test against terminals +B and HT. are the +B and HT wire colors and which? on the 02 Harness their are four leads -the top leads has black wires, the bottom leads is white and the other lead is blue.

I took it to Autozone to get another scan done, it came up as P0500 "Speed Sensor" sales rep says two sensors on the transmission maybe bad $85each to replace. not sure how its now going from 02 sensor to speed sensor.

when you disconnect the battery, it clears the ecu and resets the dtc codes. Then the ecu rerecieves the codes from the sensor and throws up the cel again.
  5. one other thing that happens too is this. If I disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, reconnect the check engine light goes away. I warmed up the engine, no check engine light. I put it in drive, started to drive it didn't automatically shift from 1st to 2nd till AFTER check engine light went on then it shifts from 2nd to 3rd and 4th as normal. Check engine light is still on.

not sure if this means much at all. Not sure if I should buy three 02 sensors since all of them read the same ohms 11-16 when cold or if its a different issue here?

it almost seems like I need to test this Cold and Hot or should I just test it when its fully hot(running or off) any ideas here?
I haven't heard of the heater sensor causing any engine running issues, as I think it mainly monitors the cats.

  6. I checked all 3 of my O2 Sensors, each harness has 4 wires, I check each of the two top black wires on each harness. using my volt meter, I set it to ohms, I warmed the car up a little then I checked. they are all at 13.4-13.5 now. If I warm it up more it'll go up higher to 16, but didn't push it. My car starts up without issues, accelerates without issues. wouldn't I have acceleration or starting issues if my 02 were bad? let me know if I should check again when its fully cold(currently ambient weather is low 50f here midwest). I guess I could also disconnect one harness, connect an ohm meter, start the car and let it warm up and see how far the ohm numbers climb

    thanks!

Not sure, as your out of the warranty, but I would call them and see if they may discount it or something.

Cold, you should read 11-16 and warmed up you should read 26-32. So the sensor is bad and needs to be replaced.

  7. would any Lexus dealer cover that under it since my car is a 2002 ? I've diagnosed the two 02 sensors in the engine bay both are between 11 when cold and full warmed up at 15.5 to 16. I replaced the OCV valve too that sits on top with a used one.

Well, the P0500 DTC is a "No signal fron=m speed sensor "A". for the Skid control ECU. That's the sensor off the rear of the tranny. Probably needs to be replaced because it's a no signal DTC code, and not on of the intermitten or corrupt signals.

The P1656 DTC is I think actually a D 156 DTC off the 02 sensor Heater control, bank 1 sensor 1, or it's the OCV sensor in the ECM.

There is a TSB on the heater control bank 1 sensors though. So that's probably the issue.

  8. I had a ODB reading done on my 2002 IS300 at a nearby Autozone today and I got two error codes P0500 for Speed Sensor and P1656 OCV circuit(Bank 1). My Trac OFF light blinks in the dash all the time, but car drives fine. Does anyone know how I can go about diagnosing this? any circuit digrams or parts I should run OHM meter against?

    thanks for your assistance!

  9. Correct its Trac OFF light on the dash. The AutoZone shows Troubleshooting P0500, then below that shows OEM Brand: OBDII

The ECM has detected a fault in the vehicle speed sensor circuit, Failed Vehicle Speed Sensor. I don't show C1275 or any of those codes. Is their a different scanner that shows this?

Also does Trac OFF usually blink when its in the off position? I'm assuming its blinking because of an issue and normally the light is off.

In order to be able to help you with this, I would need alot more info. And you meant the Trac Off light is blinking correct?

The ABS system and the Traction Control system work together. So it could be a whole slew of possibilities. When you took it to Autozone, did they give you what dtc code was showing? When he said it might be the speed sensor, I think he meant the wheel sensor. The speed snsor that controls the speedometer is located in the transmission. So if he saw say a C1271/71 code, that would be the right front speed sensor. which also means low voltage output. That can be because some crud has gotten in there and the sensor may just need to be cleaned. If a C1275/75 code came up, then the right front sensor has an abnormal output. Which usually means it needs to be replaced. But it could also be your Skid control ECU, or you may be low on brake fluid, so, as you can see, if you can have the DTC codes read and tell me what they are, then I can be very specific and help you that way. You will need someone with an ODB 2 scanner. It plugs in under the dash and it's not hard from that point. A hand held device would be sufficient.

  10. My 01 IS300 has started developing the Trac ON blinking light. It blinks slowly and the TRAC button on the console doesn't do anything. How do I diagnose this issue? I took it to AutoZone and they ran a general test on the car something about Speed Sensor, however my speedometer and odometer etc are all working fine not sure if its related.

let me know guys..snow is coming.

    thanks.

  11. I have a strange issue going on with my 2002 IS300 passenger side signal lights.

For some reason the Right signal light blinks faster then the Left(drivers side). All the bulbs work, its just faster on the passenger side. Can someone let me know what I can check \ diagnose. I have a voltmeter available too if someone needs to walk me through circuit testing.

    thanks!
