  1. Good info. Wow that's alot of work just to change the spark plugs. I sure hope I don't need to change my plugs for a long long time. Hey Lexus, some of us owners like to do maintenance on our own cars. Wonder how much dealers charge for changing plugs?

It is a lot of work for plugs. But I did do the PCV valve replacement & TB complete cleaning which is important as well. The fuel economy on the car is definitely up as is the performance. So it's worth it. If you are pricing this service don't forget to add the disassembly & complete cleaning of the TB and PCV replacement. This total service at a local dealer here would be over $500. My cost was about $80. So, you are saving about $100/hr.

    KB,

If I drive up to Ohio, would you do mine for free? Then again gas is more than $4....hmm.. :(

  2. I have RX 330 and the key casing broke where the screw hold located. I could duck tape it but it look ugly...

I notice the key is attached to the plastic. I know the dealer would charge me my first born to get a new key (cut, program....blah blah...) Any idea on how I can fix my key up other than duck tape and super glue?

    Appreciate your suggestions.

  3. Just bought a new key for my 2004 RX330 and I was wondering what sequence/criteria is required to program the key (transponder/remote)? Not sure if this can be done without dealership assistance, but I know you can do this yourself on many other cars...

I found these instructions on another forum, but I think it is for a RX300 instead of the RX330. Can anyone confirm if this is how to do it for the RX330 or know the proper way?

    1) Open car w/ the remote

    2) Get in and close the door

    3) press accel / brake simultaneously, hold for 1/2 sec or so, then release

    4) Put the master key that works in the ignition, leave it in the lock position, sec light goes out

    5) steering wheel moves by itself, wait for this to finifh (though I did it with and without wait and it made no diff).

    6) press accel 5 times in a few seconds (less than 5 definately)

    7) Press the brake 6x.

    8) pull out key, steering wheel begins to move, wait (or not, doesnt seem to matter) for the steering wheel to stop moving.

    9) Put in the new key, security light flashing

    10) press the accel

    11) wait forever while security light flashes (definately at least 3 minutes)

    12) If irritated enough goto 12 else goto 11

    13) Get annoyed, get beer from ice box, goto #1.

    Thanks in advance... :P

Did you try it? Please post if you have any success.

  4. At least they are better than in the early ES's... when the cupholders are out, you can't open the change/cigarette tray, plus when you have drinks in them, they block the stereo. Plus they are better than the 4Runners, where it blocks the climate controls and puts your drinks right in front of the vents.

I just put my drinks in a sippy cup and be done with it :P :chairshot:

I've heard that cupholders in cars are strictly a North American thing. Cars built for other markets don't even have them. Maybe the Asian engineers who designed these vehicles just didn't give cupholder placement and functionality much consideration.

Bingoooo Jetman....in Asia there is no concept of cup holders. People do not drive around sipping drinks since traffic is so crazy that you need both hands on the wheel....

For the price of a Lexus you would think who ever design the cup holder would have gave it a good thought before designing it...... but then again.... cup size are getting bigger and bigger by the day...Big Gulp used to be big but now everyone has their "supersize" drinks.... I think the car industry will have to come up with an adjustable cup holder.

  5. I could not get the homelink to work for me as well and then I found a post here that did the trick. I can't find the original post but I kept a hardcopy of the instructions so here it goes. The key is to sync up a Homelink button and your garage remote first and then the homelink and the actual opener. This was the key for me as the instructions do not tell you that nor the dealer. First clear all the previous codes in the homelink. (as described in the owner's manual), then...

    1. Hold down the button on the remote opener and the homelink button u want programmed. Once the light changes from a slow blinking light to a rapid blink, release both buttons.

    2. Go to the actual opener and press the learn button once. Within 30 seconds, press the homelink button u programmed 3 times and it should work.

    Good Luck!!!

divitra - thanks.....your steps works.... you rock.

  6. Grumpa,

I hear ya but somethings are better left to the pros. Shame to say I am not that handy and did not want to end up having to pay for a tow truck and someone to fix my problem. Did not inherit the handy genes... :D :D

I know lots of folks who say that something as essential as brakes should be left to the experts. Believe me, if I thought I was endangering my wife or either of my grandkids I wouldn't do this. I am a pilot and I figure that if they can teach me to fly a new airplane I can learn brakes. Been doing them, including caliper rebuilding, for over 20 years. If you aren't comfortable doing brakes however, then by all means let someone else do it. Great peace of mind. Besides, I am running out of day time hours to do the things that keep getting added to my "honey do" list. ;)

I was pleasantly surprised during my last tire rotation to see so much pad material left on all four corners. :)

    Gary

Wish you were my next door neighbour.... I would love to learn and do it myself. I do my own oil change on both my Hondas... now I have to learn how to for my Lexus.

  7. Just bought a 40 RX330 with 43,000 miles on it.

Going to be changing the front brake pads. Anyone do this on the RX. Anything to be aware of. Any Special tools required?

    Thanks,

    Dave

I am taking my in. Dealer charging 285 for pad and rotor plus I get a loaner car to drive around. Wish I was more handy...

What you need is a friend to help you. Watch him do your pads and you will realize that you don't need to be handy to change brakes. This is so easy "a cave man can do it". ;)

Jack the car up, take the wheel off, remove one bolt, pivot the caliper out. Take out old pads, insert new pads. Reverse the rest of the process.

  8. I copy the file from user manual.

If programming a garage door opener, check to see if the garage door opens and closes. If the garage door does not operate, see if your garage transmitter is of the Rolling Code type. Press and hold the programmed HomeLink button. The garage door has the rolling code feature if the indicator light (on the HomeLink) flashes rapidly for 2 seconds and then remains lit. If your transmitter is the Rolling Code type, proceed to the heading “Programming a rolling code system”.

Programming a Rolling Code system (for U.S.A. owners)

If your device is Rolling Code equipped, follow the steps under the heading “Programming the HomeLink” before proceeding with the steps listed below.

STEP1 Locate the training button on the ceiling mounted garage door opener motor. The exact location and color of the button may vary by brand of garage door opener. Refer to the operation manual supplied with the garage door opener for the location of the training button.

    STEP2 Press the training button.

STEP3 Press and release the vehicle’s programmed HomeLink button twice. The garage door may open.3

If the garage door opens, the programming process is complete. If the Interior features door does not open, press and release the button a third time. This third press and release will complete the programming process by opening the garage door.

The ceiling mounted garage door opener motor should now recognize the HomeLink transceiver and operate the garage door.

STEP4 Repeat the steps above to program another rolling code system for any of the remaining HomeLink buttons.

Sad to say that I tried this step and did not work. I clear the settings too. I wonder if there is any Lexus owner out there that got this to work. My sister in law has an Acura and she can't get hers to work either. I guess I'll just stick to my good ol' controller. :(

  9. I'm having troubles programing mine, too. I followed instructions, cleared the transmitter, but then it says to push the button you wish to operate and hold it till it starts flashing... but it starts flashing from the moment I push it. Don't know what to do with that.

Yeah...I have the same result following the instruction. Was hoping someone has luck with theirs and give tips.
