  1. You'd have to ask. Its a TSIB not a recall, so my guess would be they won't cover it if its out of warranty.

I called Lexus about this issue the other day and they basically told me "No, it would not be covered" but they also told me that it might be possible to get them to fix it but I'd have to take it to the dealer first. Go figure. <_< The nearest Lexus dealer is about 70 miles from where I live.

  2. Hey. I'm relatively new around here. I just picked up a 2004 ES330. OK, I got a few questions. What are my realistic options for upgrading the sound system? I know I can change out the speakers. How hard is it to change the tweeters in particular? How powerful is the stock amp? How hard is it to bypass the stock amp? Has anybody installed a full system? If so, where have you guys installed the crossovers? I've got questions. You've guys have got answers. :D Thanks.

  3. No, they are different. I beleive they were Sumitomo brake pads. But if I were you, I would go to either Hawk or EBC greens for the same money, and get a much better brake pad. ( Better stoppong , less brake dust and much quieter.) You could get them for around 45 bucks for the fronts and change them yourself.

I got my wife breathing on my back so I just went ahead and agreed to get raped at the Toyota dealership for OEM pads. I've never changed brake pads myself. Don't you have to resurface the rotors? I might give it a try on my Camry.

  4. The damage will cost in the neighborhood of $3,300 to replace the wiring harness. Dealer said both of the main electrical harnesses were completely chewed in half. I would not know if he is telling the truth or not, maybe the insurance man can determine.

No call back from insurance but they did have a classification for Non-Collision Animal Damage, I guess once they get a look at the car, speak with the service writer, all should go well although I never trust any insurance company 100%. You can pay premiums for 10 years never filing a claim but as soon as you file one they drop you. :censored: LOL!

Sorry to hear that man. Unfortunately, it sounds pretty bad if the insurance company decides to hold out on you. I'd hope that they won't give you any trouble. Her premium is going to skyrocket though. Trust me.....I had the rear of my car repaired and it cost about $800 after I collided with a uncooperating mailbox. :whistles: My annual premium went up about $200 and I don't know when it's going back down. :cries: On any car (especially a Lexus), I would be scared to splice together any important wires. That is scary work.

Why'd she have the car garaged for 4 months?

  5. I actually had the same thought and this question answered it. Yeah, Toyota is good at getting customer issues resolved. I had a problem with the infamous intake manifold on my Camry and there was no recall and my bumper-to-bumper warranty was done. My first trip to the dealership ended with a high bill FOR ME. Later on, I called Toyota's corporate office and later on that dealership decided to honor the intake manifold repair under my powertrain warranty. Something tells me that it would have probably been honored with no warranty just because Toyota knows that it was an issue and they like happy customers.

  6. yes, the 90k mile service is a big one, timing belt, water pump etc, lots of threads about it on here. It can be quite expensive at the Lexus dealership, almost 2k for some, many have taken their vehicle to a Toyota dealership or independent and had it done for much less. Do not disregard this service, if the timing belt breaks it will reek havoc on your engine. Maybe they did the 90k service but if they didn't put new tires on for you I cannot imagine they did that service.

I have the exact same car and I love it. It has been a fantastic car and worth the little maintenance that it requires. Don't worry about paying too much compared to what others have paid, enjoy the car and you can find out anything you need about your new car on this awesome site.

Thanks. I had read a couple of threads on the 90k service and thought that it would be a little bit of a issue. I didn't mention it to my wife whom the vehicle is for because it would have probably given her a lame excuse to pass on a great car. How many miles is on your car and where can I find out about all the services (like the 90k) that the car should undergo?

As far as the tires, they agreed to buy 2 new tires and also provide a discount for the other tires that I pay for. They said that the tires were fine and had plenty of life left on them but they looked a little worn because of the low profile. I'd rather just get new tires at a great discount since they will let me do it.

As far as the windshield, they had to order one because of the rain sensors that I was unaware of. I'm really finding the REAL difference between a Camry and an ES.

  7. I'm looking at buying a '02 ES300 with what appears to be no problems except it needs new tires, the windshield needs repair, and the front door driver's lock does not work with the remote or the switch. The vehicle is for my wife. The dealership will put in a new windshield and fix the driver's door lock. The car has 84k miles on it and is selling for $15.9k. Is this a good deal or not? I sign off on the deal either Monday or Tuesday.

Also, do you guys recommend having all service done at a Lexus dealership or is a Toyota dealership good as well?

    Thanks.

The 02 ES300 has alot of miles as well as the price is high. I would negotiate it to $12,000 have it look at if you have a mechanic. Also, the time belts need to be replaced soon. Good luck!

It's too late to negotiate. I have bought it already.

  8. Have you driven it thoroughly to check for the transmission issues that were present in 02-05?

What transmission issues? The transmission doesn't shift as quickly as with other vehicles but I found that this is a common issue. The transmission didn't flare or anything like that. I just purchased the vehicle a little while ago :chairshot: but please give me more information. Thanks.

  11. ...........The alarm only activates if the door was unlocked from the inside and the door was opened. Not if it was opened from the outside, seeing how the work is done on the handle......

o, ok. well that explains it.
