  1. I am at 21K on my RX400h and the Michelins MXV4 S8 only have about 5K left before replacing. Does that seem right? I was getting 65K on my RX 300.

Also, I was considering upsizing to 255/55/18 and heard that they will rub on the rear struts from the dealer. Any truth to that. I saw that a few others have used this size on this forum.

Lastly, any recommendations for tires? Strictly street and I want to maintain a quiet ride.

Well I just replaced my Mich. at 35K so too answer your question seems like your not doing as well as most I've heard.

I certainly could of got another 3-5K on mine but................ IMHO better safe than sorry.

  2. Just out of curosity what makes you take for granted I want too quench my thirst for my ego? B) Perhaps my reasoning is I want too stay with same size, :P but not have same wheel as every other RX in the Parking lot. Sometimes we take for granted things without knowing reasoning for question. :o

Great! There ARE companies out there that'll chrome your stock rims. The trick is having a spare set laying around during the 2 week turn around time. Or, if you come up with another style / same sized rim, maybe you'll let me borrow your spare set, that you won't be using any more, so we won't be inconvenienced while OUR's are being chromed :P

Wow perhaps we should shut down all aftermarket wheel makers  we can all keep out original wheels, no one can be differnt, I can't have mine chromed or differnt from yours :cries: All of us should drive the same color have the same options. In my country were free to express our own individualality. My question was if it could be done not if you thought it should be, but thank for your input. Oh as too the extra pair if I go that way I can afford too keep them or I'll put them on ebay and feel free too bid.

  3. Who doesn't agree that there could be taller / wider / (whatever suits your preference) rims on our 400h rides, that would look better. The rub is, that Lexus used the best configuration for highest mileage, unfortunately. I'd hate to sacrifice that, just for my ever thirsty ego.

  4. The other day for the 3rd time I hoped in my 400h and went to start it and nothing, the first time this happend was at the dealer. As I was purchasing slightly used I thought little about it they jumped it and away I went. The second time was in my driveway and really can't understand why about that one unless one of my kids left door slightly ajar which could of happend. Now this third time we had my son at swiming lessons for 45 minutes parked in spot directly next to pool with shaded bench in front of car, I must admit I left keys in car but WERE in off position, nothing was on, 45 minutes later jump in won't start againg.

So seems too me I have battery problem, I just finished my 15K service but suspect that means they just check water level in battery. So will Lexus do any for me? Is this normal? I have heard the Hrbrd battry's last short time but this seems like more of a problem than than. Input would be welcome.

  5. I asked the dealer to look into this at my last service. They claim it is not a known problem.

It is annoying. what are we are breathing in.

    Any lab people out there?

    CSI where are you!!!

I just noticed today the white dust on the dash. Car was washed 4 days ago and the dash was clean then. Windows have been closed. My garage is a two car garage behind my house, no white dust there.

I picked up my car from service yesterday, I had expressed concern about these same particles, to me they almost look like granules of sand but smaller. I had also shown them too him last time I was in and he said we will be replacing cabin filter that must be it.

IMHO there must be something too this, theres too many of us having an issue, oh and I have no tissues :cries: I wonder what the best way to get Lexus to start looking into this is, as dealers seem too just blow it off and say we have not information on this and thats is?

There are white particles that get on dash. They seem to be comming from the defrost vent. Lexus changed filter behind glove box to paper type as they believed the other type was deteriorating. This has not resolved the problem.

A/C, heat usually runs on re-circulate. Has anyone experienced this problem?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Did you ever find the source of this? I noticed it in my vehicle last night. White particles over the dash/console etc... The windows are always up at this point given the weather in New England is still cold. So I don't think it came from an external source.

  6. Hi all,

Per job requirement, I have to drive ~100 miles daily (80% freeway), so I just need help to decide between buying a brand new RX350 or RX400h.

    I'm 63 and don't drive fast.

I currently own a 1999 AWD RX300 with 121k miles (original owner). It just had Timing belt and Water pump..... replaced (@113k) at dealer (I provided dealer with parts I bought on the Internet). I do all the fluid changes, spark plug change, TB cleaning,... myself. And so far, the car runs pretty good. It still has the original brake pads. I'm happy with the RX300 so far.

But now, to make the buying decision, I'm not sure about the maintenance level requirements of the hybrid RX400h. Can I still handle most of them myself, like with the RX300? How to compare extra time/cost of maintenance and higher purchase price...versus the savings on gas?

I plan to keep the car for ~10 years or more (if I'm still around). (I've never owned a hybrid before).

I'll appreciate all the help and inputs.

Most of the maintenance is pretty straight forward on both cars, you can only change the oil, rotate tires etc one way and you do it the same on both cars. Now as too any special maintenace to hybrid you are under no obligation to go to dealer you can find good competent mechanic who can do the work for you, no fancy waiting room, no cookies, or soft drink most likely no loaners but half the price. As long as he does all the work they call for and its documented your warranty is fine (keep paper work)

As to savings on gas, I would love to see some more current numbers on how long takes you to offset cost of hybrid, I think last study I saw was way back when gas was about $2.10 or $2.25 now that its 3.25 or more and going up up up how long will it take? What if we are at $ 5.00 next year and stays there, go try and buy a a hybrid than.

From the sounds of your post your really torn, I think you need to drive both cars same equitment and that will help you make your choice, other option is to find a very slightly used hybrid say 5-8k miles on it so much of depreication is taken for you. That worked well for me. I bought one with 7K for about 8K less than new that was 1 year old.

Just some grits for the mill

  7. Somewhere, I had heard perhaps incorrectly so that on the Hybrd's you could not go to aftermarket wheel? :cries:

However while in tire shop yesterday with other vehicle I questioned this and tech looked up on computer ans seid

no problem  . So who is correct :( are there any restrictions? Seems too me I have Never seem a 400h with

anything but stock or original wheels.

  8. From what Verison tell me there new Mortorla Maxx phone is compatable with out Lexus Nav systems and will down load phone book etc and all features we need. It shows on there web site also it will. Bad news it off course is most expensive newest phone. I did however after long drawn out conversation convince Customer service they should sell me at reduced rate of upgrade because current phone would not do job it was designed too do.

I have not done the upgrade yet so I can't gaurantee it will work, however they assure me it will and if not will allow return for 15 days.

  9. Do you know if this notebook procedure works with the RX400H and Motorola Razr?

After much frustration, I purchased a Sprint Sony Ericksson T 608 on Ebay. This is a phone that Sprint no longer supports, I'm told. It allows transfer of an entire phone book as "business cards" to my RX 400. Unlike newer phones, its bluetooth is entirely unlocked. I have not activated the phone - no need. I just use it to transfer numbers. Doesn't matter who your provider is! Also, most older GSM bluetooth phones allow full transfer. Perhaps you have a friend with a phone that will transfer. Beats one number at a time.

So how do I get my phone book into the Sprint Sony Ericksson T608 in the first place? Do I have to manually type my contacts in one-by-one? that would be annoying. how much should this phone cost on ebay? are there any cheaper compatible phones out there? cingular maybe?

  10. Guys I'm the owner of a RX400h for a year now. This is my 4th luxury car-Audi and Alfa Romeo back in Europe, BMW here and now it's Lexus. The only reason I bought RX400h was not to get better mileage but to be more environment friendly and at the same not to trade off luxury feeling while driving it (because if you're not into luxury cars get Ford or Honda). First and foremost:

    RATTLES

As I said on the other topic-any car with over $40k price tag should have none-period-use the plastic and engineering resources to make sure that it's not acting like sub $20k car. If they claim to be a Luxury car makers-than they're falling short of Daimler-Benz or BMW

    ELECTRONICS

Well-let's be honest-it's cool to see how your hybrid system is working- but what use does it have??-I'd rather see what my average speed is or how many miles I can make on fuel left in my tank (even Ford hybrids give you that option).

Two sets of keys should automatically select different user modes so when you open the door it adjusts the car to your likes-and if your wife does it-car changes settings (like other cars do).

Interior Driver and Passenger lights-it's so stupid that they don't turn off when you lock the car-I could forgive it if the car didn't need Hybrid System Calibration every time you run down AUX battery like it happens in this case

And not being able to work on radio using GPS display is just ridiculous.

    RIDE

Agree that the car has a smooth ride but try to accelerate quickly- engine noise is annoying-did you guys try driving ML500??

Also lots of wind noises getting into the car.

    FUEL CONSUMPTION

Not that I care but this is the biggest joke of all. Driving normally like any other car you would - there is no way to get even close to EPA number-and I don't care that RX330 has worse mileage and doesn't get close to it's numbers-think out of the box-there are other car makers than Lexus. My BMW was of by 10%-not 30-40%.Driving it in the city (live myself in NY) like a normal car - there is no way to get even close to 30. How about average 20. And I did try to challenge myself once-drove like a grandma for entire tank-what did I accomplish?- 24. But it gets better on highway-if you don't exceed 60-65 you can get something like 26-but who drives that slow??

    TIRES

Enough topics here about that issue-nothing to add

Sure car has few other cool features but this is what the others have to offer-nothing special in case of Lexus.

For sure this is my last experience with that automaker-and definitely I can't recommended them to any of my friends.

Really not much I can say, but since you so unhappy with the car  you should sell or trade in or sell

and find something that makes you happy :) After all thats why Baskin-Robins has 31 flavors. I'm happy with mine overall and have expernced few of the problems you mentioned, perhaps I'm just lucky :whistles:

  11. I've been looking at the WeatherTech cargo liner to replace the factory carpet-style mat. My main interest is to avoid cargo sliding around more than concerns about spills. It's somewhat pricy at $110 (plus $12 to get it to my front door) but looks well made. It's physical weight is about 7 pounds which should make it fairly easy to lift up to access the compartments below. Has anyone seen this brand of liner?

    Tom

I have a Weathertech and really love it, I compared with factory Lexus and pesonally I didn't like the deep crevicses in Lexus one. I purchase mine directly from Lexus dealer who sells on ebay for less money than I could purchase anywhere else, I think they were $ 92.00 also had all colors.
