  1. Hi Guys, I need your help/suggestions please.

On the update about that sparking noise or hesitation, my wife bring to Lex Dealer for diagnosis and below are the things that needs to be done: :(

    1) Sparking noise/hesitation is due to bad spark plug wires. He said atleast 3 of them are bad. Last month, I put new iridium sparkplugs, Bosch wireset, distributor rotor and caps. I got the wires from Autozone. Should I be okay for replacment under warranty? (Parts and labor $250)

    2) Front lower ball joints on each side needs to be replace (total part and labor $420)

    3) P.S. Valve needs to be replace because it is leaking. (total parts and labor $875)

    4) Coolant heater valve needs to be replaced. I don't know where it is located (total parts and labor $165)

    5) Anteena Mask (total parts and labor $110) (No worry)

    6) GoodYear Tires ($575) (No worry)

    7) 4 wheel alignment ($100)

  2. Hi Denny,

Haven't talked with you in a while.

Yea, I got big size washers to cover the torn holes but the problem is, I cannot align the hole to the upper frame because of front lil pushed in. I have to find some other alternate to fix the cover.

I was looking for the sparking noise in the evening and I touched one of the plug wire on left just for inspection and I got a shock ;)

I did not understand about the carb cleaner spray (is it the one to mix with the fuel?), how do you use it?

    :)

  3. How could you possibly determine that the O2 sensor is malfunctioning based on just the check engine light?

There is a POSSIBILITY of O2 malfanctioning because Yudelia metioned engine sounds and runs perfectly.

For older cars mostly the check engine light are related to air/fuel ratio IF the engine sounds and runs perfectly. I had the same experience. :)

  4. I haven't checked those yet. I'll.

There is sparking noise (intermettintly) coming from right side distributor rotor compartment which is occuring during the same time the car hesitates. The mechanic said he checked the spaking sequence, wiring etc.

I just can't figure it out

  5. My wife was making a left turn from the driveway to 2 right lane road. One lane traffic was stopped allowing my wife to turn left but she didn't see car coming through other lane and hit the side of other car with front of Lexus.

No major damage was done. I cut the piece of fan shroud which was touching to the cooling fan.

I removed the plastic engine bottom cover and will put new once I find cheap part.

Also, there is something strange happening with the car as I mentioned in my earlier post about misfiring or overfiring. After driving on highway and coming to stop sign, car was hesitating (it seemed like spark overfiring or something). The car is not idling smothly. I went to mechanic for checkup but he couldn't find anything wrong. He checked the firing sequence and wiring and everything is fine according to him. BUT, I know there is something happening and I can't figure it out.

    Appreciate any help.

  6. My wife got in an accident today with my Lexus.:cries: There was no major visible physical damage done to the car. :) Front has been bent inwards a bit. Cooling fan shroud has been broken and was touching to the fan. I think I'll cut the broken piece instead of putting new shroud. Engine bottom cover is broken (4 out of 11 nuts and bolts broken).

I asked the dealer for engine bottom cover and he said $225. I think it is expensive to buy from the dealer. If anyone has any suggestions, appreciate it.

Also, at very low speed or rpm, the car hesitates or seems like mis firing or something. I put new plugs, rotors, caps, and wiring last month only. Is it possible that any of these components may have been affected in accident? OR what could be the cause?:cries:

  7. Hay guys new user, I have a 1991 Lexus Ls400 i get a vibration from 40-60mph once every so often. It lasts maybe a second or two feels as if my phone/pager vibrates on your belt! The car has been balanced road tested and everything. Maybe someone has had this problem and can help me out.....?

I had the same problem until this summer when someone suggested to change transmission fluid and refill from pan. I did if the first time and it went away although I changed fluid 3 times after that (Didn't want to go for fluid flush).

  8. The above mentioned basic maintenance tips and links will keep you away from major expenses. For me, LexLs tutorial helped a lot.

Also, check your brake pads and rotors.

This is the best helpful website I have ever known :whistles:

  9. According to my electrical engineering knowledge, wires with less resistance are good for carrying high current. Less resistance, more current at same voltage. ;)

I would also like to take a moment to THANK LexLs for VERY useful instructions :)

  10. I'm going to do spark plugs and wire set replacement next weekend. Spark plugs I ordered online with clubplug.com (NGK IRIDIUM-part # NGK-BKR6EIX-11. Thanks to LexLs (www.LexLs.com) for excellent explanations). Wire set recommended by LexLs was Vitek. To be frank, I think that was bit expensive for me, so decided to go with Bosch wire set for $99)

I have not yet decided from where to buy for distriubtor caps and rotors. Do you have any recommendations? :whistles:

  11. 1) I changed the trans fluid refiile from pan and the burst of virbation (shrudding) while accelerating, went away. Although I didn't do trans flush. While back, someone on the post mentioned that doing trans flush might hurt seal

(especially for more than 10 year old car). So, I was thinking if I change the tans fluid again from pan tomorrow, and next weekend. I would be able to dilute the contimanitaion. Do you think it should be okay?

    2) Couple of weekends ago, I put Quaker State 10W30 and Bosch filter (it was my first time oil and filter change) and now engine is making noise when I accelerate. Is it because of type, grade of oil? :(

    3) I think I need new front bearings (previously, I was owing toyota camry and it had similar type of symptoms and I have had my friend replace the bearings. I was not present when he did the job, but said that he had to go to shop and press fit the bearing and he charged me $50 for each bearing press) Does any one have changed bearings and can give some advice on how to do this job? I talked to autozone guy and he mentioned that I should remove the hub and take the hub to NAPA and have them do press fit job. I'm not sure.

    Help please

  12. Hi guys,

I have found instruction on changing spark plugs and wires from LexLs. Neat step by step explanation. I was reading the threads related to tune up and found out that it is best time for me to change distributor caps and rotors since I'm changing wires and spark plugs. Does anyone has any instructions or manual on changing caps and rotors? I came across one thread and it said it is not an easy job to replace rotor and caps. This is my first time DIY for this job.

I went to lexus dealer and found out that caps were about $15 each and rotors $30 each. I could not find these parts at other auto parts store (autozone, murray's, adavance autoparts etc). Is the parts price okay at dealer or I could get better price somewhere else?

Also, few days ago I posted regarding SEC radio code since I'm going to remove -ve terminal of battery and was told to contact Lexus dealer with vin number and they should be able to get one. I asked lexus dealer regarding it and he said I have to bring the car in and have diagonis for $90. He said look in the manual under Theft Loc and it should explain how to set and reset the code. I checked the manual but there is nothing mentioned except anti theft security but NO SEC code information. Please help if you know regarding SEC code. I have Lexus premium sound radio w/o CD changer but have installed CD changer last year. :(

    Thanks!
