  1. My 2002 RX 300 right side mirror does not move to the right when button is pressed but it does move to the left and up/down. Seems a control wire may have slipped. Anyone knows how to get behind the mirror and slip the wire back on? Does anyone have diagram of the mirror wires/motors? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  2. Thanks to a member's help, I was able to find the bolts/holes for draining oil, transmission fluid and the coolant as I did the 60,000 fluid change. Now I have no idea where the TRANSFER CASE is. Would anyone send me a picture/ link or description on where to find it? I have Toyotas, VWs, a Mercedes (pretty bad), Volvo (not so great) and now RX 300. I have never been so challenged before by locating the essential service portals.... Thanks...

  3. My wife just got the 60000 mile service performed on her 2001 RX300 here in East Tennessee . Total cost was about $1,060 including 9.5% tax. I'm thinking that may be a little much. What are other people paying for 60000 service?

You could have changed the oil in the engine and transmission and had someone change the radiator fluid and saved yourself over $900. It would have taken you half of Saturday.... Maybe 90,000 miles service!

  4. llbouch,

Good luck with your brake problem. I ended up taking it to the dealership, they used their diagnostic machine, told me there's nothing wrong. Then I took it in for the second time, they said it was the rear sensors, cost over $600. I ok the repair, they called me a couple days later, told me it was the sensor ring which was the whole axle. Final bill was around $1500.

I called Lexus and told them it was a design flaw, but they said since the vehicle came from the north, it was rusted by salt, that's why it failed. I don't think something that was supposed to save you should fail like that and cost so much to repair. You might be better off pulling the fuse. I know I am probably not going to buy a used Lexus again.

My 2002 RX 300 is in Austin, TX and it has been viberating! since I bought it used about a yr. ago.... I know nothing is wrong with the brakes. I balanced the wheels. It reduced the vibes but it still does it. I am just going to live with it and consider it a design flaw. As long as the car stops, a little vibe is good....

My next car will be Prius!

  5. Might have guessed, my 2004 RX330 has just done 53500, just out of warranty and my passenger side headlamp is misting up, obviously letting in water.

I had the drivers side replaced last year after that one did the same.

I just cannot believe that these failures are anything but poor manufacturing as I have other cars older and more miles and no failures, in fact theis RX is the only ones I have ever had problems with.

I was wondering if this is a common occurence on any other RX330 of similar age.

I may contatc Lexus and see if they will replace out of goodwill, I have always had my car serviced from new at the Lexus dealership so have a good releationship with them.

Anybody out there with any opinions as to how to tackle Lexus?.

Lexus quality is deteriorating and dealers seems to be getting greedier all over. You will be best served to look for a reputable Toyota INDEPENDENT mechanic and keep your car serviced there. Most problems are minor initially and can be fixed with little $ if you find the right mechanic.

Headlamps can be fixed if you detect the water vapors early (before the lens get opaque). You can seal the small holes with clear or black silicone caulk (window sealant from Home Depot or Lowe's). You can subscribe to ALLDATA for about $40 a year and get a lot of info. for maintaining and servicing your car... That is what I do and have saved at least $3,000 on my RX 2002 in the last 5 months compared to dealer's charges...

    Best of LUCK...

  6. I'm due for a 105K service. I have always taken my car to the dealer for these services. However, this time I decided to look closely at what was done. Looks like oil change, differential fluid change, and tire rotation, plus the usual "inspections".

I was quoted $300 for this service (they say it takes 4 hours). A call to a foreign car specialist (non-dealer) provided the same estimate.

My question: Do folks generally have this service done at the dealer, and if not, anyone have any suggestions for alternatives to the dealer in San Antonio, TX?

Thanks much for any help you can provide.

    L. J.

Take your car to a regular oil change place like quick lube or wait for oil/transmission oil change service sales in your local paper. As long as you perform the service and have receipts, manufacturer warranty should hold. Dealer suck you dry...Best of luck. Norman in Austin

  7. I have an RX300 year 2000 and for some reason whenever im driving it sounds like I have a flat tire and when I speed up like on the highways my car starts shaking a lot!! I took it to some place to check it out and they said I need to replace my back passenger side rotor??? Im totally lost, how do I know if this is true. I think I may have hit a curb a couple times, would it mess up the rotor? Please help me :cries: Thanks!!

Sounds like tires out of balance. You should be able to balance all tires for about $20. Best wishes, Norman

  8. In January 2004, I bought my wife a certified 2001 RX300. I immediately noticed the tire tread on it was lower than the rest of the certified cars, but they said it was "within their standards" to be certified. Three days later, I brought it back in for squeaky brakes. They said they replaced the rear pads. Four months later, I bought it back in for squeaky brakes again. They said there wasn't a problem.

Now I just brought my car back in and my dealer is telling me I need 4 new tires, an alignment, front brake pads, and rear brake rotors. It's been just under 19,000 miles and 1 year 3 months since we bought the car (bought at 37K, now has 56K I believe). They said the rotors are coroded, the pads are at 2/10ths and the tires are at 2/10s in a spot due to a misplaced belt.

Does this seem reasonable to you to get stuck with a $1500+ bill just slightly more than a year after buying a CERTIFIED RX300?

I have talked with the service manager and used car manager ad naseum about this. They insist the car was above Lexus standards when sold (I doubt it) and won't do anything for me except maybe take a $100 off. I find this laughable.

You tell me am I being unreasonable here? I think at least they should pick up the cost of all the brake repairs since I brought it back in TWICE for them to look at the brakes shortly after buying the car.

    What should I do?

  9. On Lexus-Parts there are three different repair manuals available. I am looking for a basic maintenace schedule and DIY procedures. Does anyone know which manual I would need and do I really need all three?

You may try ALLDATA.com, an online repair and service data basis for about $30-$40 per year. I found it very useful for repairs and for checking the honesty of mechanics... It lists the time and cost for many services that can save one a lot of money... I found that the Austin, TX Lexus dealer is extremely dishonest when it comes to the amount of time they say it takes to perform a particular service and how much they charge for repairs... You will find that some mechanics are in business to rob customers just because they drive expensive cars...

    Best of luck....

  10. We should use this forum as a pressure group and legal action group... Toyota Corp. and Dealers are business owners who like to make money. We are the consumers who pay them for a quality product at a fair price. If the product is shoddy and has significant design/ manufacturing flaws, we should force them to repair them free of charge through recalls and or legal action.

If you look through the club's postings, you will find that RX 300s have design flaws in transmission, brakes and engine (filter screen in transmission clogs up frequently, brakes require a special kit to make the front end stable--instead of shaking-- and narrow passages in the engine that produces sludge which harms the engines and make them burn oil). These flaws are also reported in ALLDATA.com, an online trouble shooting and repair manual.

I suggest we organize and start a class action lawsuit. How do we go about doing so?

  11. So you have searched and found very little.

Now you are ready to make your post.

First gather all the info you have on your question/problem.

This will help you make a intelligent question with accurate responses.

DO NOT MAKE MULTIPLE THREADS IN MORE THAN ONE FORUM. Doing that is referred to as spamming and all threads you make will be deleted.

Find the one that is most relevant . You will be advised if others think it belongs somewhere else.

So where do you want to make your thread. You have to choose which forum is more appropriate for your question.

There are specific forums for specific cars , under 90% of circumstances they should go in there.

The the other times it may fit other places such as ...............

Lexus Detailing and Car Care Forum

Forum to discuss making your Lexus look the business, waxes, polishes, techniques

It speaks for itself but anything to do with cleaning or refinishing your car belongs here. A car is a car and this is not a specific one.

    Show and Shine

Just detailed your car? Post your pictures here, brag about it, fish for compliments, and generally show it off to all the other Lexus owners

    Wheels and Tires Forums

Any tire and rim question belongs here , not in the vehicle forums. Why ? you ask ,because a tire is inherent to its properties , The car it is used on will not make a tire perform better only the other way around. Fitment issues also belong in this area if you are up sizing tires and rims.

    Dealers & Pricing Forums

Forum to discuss and share your experiences with Lexus dealerships

So you went to a dealer and they washed your car and fixed your wipers for free and want to tell everyone else how good they are. Or a dealer washed your car broke your wipers and scratched your bumper then tried to overcharge you . Well they all belong here.

    Buy & Sell Forums

Forum to advertise Lexus parts or parts for your Lexus -either for sale, or wanted to buy. No commercial trading allowed. Pretty self explanatory , you want to trade money for parts ,well do it here. If you do this for businesses or with more than one part you will be scrutinized and banned if needed. Many people think the LOC and its members are a person billboard. I hate spam in my email and even more on this board.

    Club Events and Meetings Forums

Forum to arrange, setup and discuss meetings of the Lexus Owners Club. All Lexus models are welcome at meets.Pretty easy to know as well. You have local members getting together if you don't see anyone in your area post a thread in this section and others will follow. Also check the LOC map and add yourself to find others.

    General Maintenance

Any question pertaining to Lexus / Toyota and oils, premium gas requirements or other lubrication and general parts inquires.

    Workshop Tutorials

This section is for when you becomes an advanced members and have done some work to your car to remove or fix a part on it. Then you post in this section to tell other members how to do it with pics if you can. Please do not go here asking for how to do something otherwise it will get deleted and you will not get any help .

    General Discussions

This is for any conversations on new/old technology or other car/vehicle developments.

First thing is the title , what should you call your post/baby.

This is all about marketing , many posts are overlooked because they are not titled correctly even though many others know the answer but you did not make it clear. Making a post saying "help me" , "what is this" or other vague useless titles are frowned upon as it shows you do not have the time to input your energy into your own problem and are looking for quick answers. You were always told you receive exactly what you put into something , well this is no different.

Make the year of the car in the title the model is not needed if it is in a specific forum.

What is your car doing or not doing? Now condense it to lets say for example

    LS forum

    91 not starting when hot

I don't know what to fix next?

This tells readers the important info if they might be able to help or not. Also lets others who might be searching know if the thread pertains to them at all. This way they can add what they have found and help both of you.

Now include all the info you have from previous repairs or modifications. Add any maintenance or accidents as well as this gives the reader a full picture on the car. You need the mileage how long you have had the car and anything else it does which may seem normal or irrelevant to you .

So you now have all the info to make a beautiful post with the answers you need. Now get going and have some fun as well as saving you some time money and effort.

    Good luck.
