  1. My 03 GS300 makes some annoying noise when I stop at the traffic light. There're some exceptions though...1)if the A/C is on, the annoying go away because the idle maintains little higher (500 rpm); 2)drive at night with the highlights on that also raise the idle higher around 500 rpm

At normal driving condition, A/C and headlights off, if I stop at the traffic light or sit in the bumper to bumper traffice, I can hear the ABS resetting noise and the annoying noise due to the low idle with gear at D. More interesting is that, if I change my gear to N idle move up to 700-800rpm and all the noise go away.

I'll be really appreciated if someone can post some notes here to figure out the mystery! Thanks!

What does the noise sound like and where does it seem to be coming from? I have a 2000 GS300 and I get a rattle coming from the lower left side of the dashboard.

I get the noise in both forward and reverse at idle once the car is fully warmed up. It goes away as soon as the engine speed increases above an idle. I posted an entry titled "ABS brake rattle" but have not had any responders. I am told that the noise is an abs actuator rattle and is common to these cars which does not make me very happy.

  2. I have a 2000 GS300. Once the car is warmed up and shifted into reverse there is an annoying rattle that appears to come from the lower left side of the steering column. It only happens when the car is at idle with the car in reverse with my foot on the brake. I took the car to the Lexus dealer who was able to duplicate my symptoms. The service manager contacted Lexus's technical service department and was told that the problem was with the ABS brake actuator and that these cars (2000 Lexus GS300) are notorious for this problem. This is not a safety issue according to Lexus, just an annoyance.

I have searched this forum and elsewhere on the net and have not found other owners complaining about this noise. Has anyone else experienced this and if so what have they done about. I have tried to get Lexus to replace the actuator or the complete ABS assembly as required at their cost, but have not been successful.

The car has 85k miles on it.

  3. The piping on the driver's seat of my 2002 GS300 is cracked in two places on the seat back and loose and coming off on the seat part. Now before anyone tells me to loose weight, that's not the issue! lol I have a funny feeling the seat covers I had over the Summer were part of the problem. They didn't fit very well.

I found out that under the manufacturer warranty, this would've been covered, but that expired and my

extended warranty won't cover the repair.

Has anyone been through this? I searched the forums, but couldn't find anything related.

I have a few places I intend to get estimates from. I'm in Long island...any one know of a good reputable auto interior repair shop in Western Suffolk?

I recently purchased a 2000 GS300 that had a section of the piping on the driver's seat bottom missing. The dealer took it an upholstery shop and had it repaired. The piping was not an exact match, but close enough so that unless you knew otherwise you wouldn't realize that it had been replaced. Also, when the car was returned to me I noticed that the lumbar support no longer worked which necessitated a return trip to the dealer for repair. When the upholstery shop repaired the seat, they failed to connect one of the elecrical connectors properly. The dealer found that and fixed the problem. I have noticed that problems with the seat piping are not that unusual on these cars, I'm not sure whether it is faulty material or workmanship.

I'm located in SC, but any reputable ulphostery shop in your local area should be able to repair it for you.

  4. Here are the directions.

Thanks for the reply and instructions. After comparing the various part descriptions and so on I note that the instructions that you provided show two beam angle gauges, one for the low and the other for the high beams. My particular car only has one beam angle gauge and it is for the low beams only. I am still at loss as to how to calibrate the high beams.
