  1. I have searched and couldn't find any info. I just noticed that my running board lights on the driver side are both out. Any info on replacing them? Is it weird that both the front and back light on the driver side are out? Is this common? Could something have come unplugged?

  2. $2500.00...??

To justify that you must spent one helluva lot of time listening to that system just setting inside your RX closed up inside the garage with the engine off.

Otherwise the typical 70Db road noise, "white" noise, "over-shadows" the lower level "sounds" so much that you must have the volume up in the painful to the ears range for the "high" sequences.

The best investment to improve the automotive audio "listening" experience is via more sound proofing, noise reduction. Undercoating the wheelwell liners, nice quiet higher profile 16-17" summer tires, fiberglass insulation in the doors, coat of silicone lub on the rubber window seals, etc, and maybe even an "anti-noise, noise canceling, module under the driver's seat.

And it wouldn't hurt to add some DSP, Digital Signal Processing, to automatically bring the "low" musical sequences up to, or even above, the level of the cabin ambient NOISE.

Having done all of that you'd likely be pleasantly surprised at just how well the factory system sounds.

Well, Debbie Downer, I wanted indash navigation, bluetooth, ipod, and satellite radio. Doing the soundproofing wouldn't help me with that would it? Who says I won't do that stuff too. All I can tell you is that I am very very pleased with this upgrade. And I know others that would like to do the same to their RX but they didn't think it was possible so I wanted to make sure the people on here knew.

    Oh, well, now I understand.

As "Debbie Downer" I see absolutely no need for bluetooth, ipod, nor satelite radio. Insofar as GPS/Nav is concerned I find that a built-in is a waste. I'd much rather have a portable (which I do) that I can move from car to car, or even car to Cessna.

That's funny I have a portal I take from car to car and even to my ten speed, that's the same as Cessna, isn't it?

  4. I thought I would post this since alot of people on here don't seem too familiar with the stereo systems in our cars. I recently performed a complete overhaul of this stereo system on my non NAV/non ML stereo. I removed the indash 6CD player and replaced it with a Pioneer Z2 with 30GB hard drive indash NAV/Ipod/bluetooth/rear view camera/dvd player/cd/mp3/satellite radio unit. This thing does everything, and it's awesome I even retained the steering wheel controls. I also replace the front speakers with 6 1/2" Boston Acoustics component speakers, the factory amp with an Alpine 75x4, and replaced the rear speakers with 6 1/2" Boston Acoustics SL65 speakers. This system is now better than a ML system in my opinion. The NAV software is very similar to the factory Lexus software, same mapping company makes both, only now I have all the bells and whistles. Total cost was about $2500. I highly recommend others do the same. The tricky part was trying to find the trim piece for the radio, but there is a little known Lexus manufactured double din piece that if you can find one makes it look like a factory install. My amp is also hidden so you don't see it, it's truly an awesome job, can't really tell anything has been done, except for people who know better, you will know that the unit should be at the top of the dash and not where the radio was. I would post some pics but don't know how. If someone wants me to just ask, and tell me how.

  5. Just so everybody knows what happened. It was a clogged AC drain. The dealership fixed it no problem, but tried to charge me $1000 for removing and drying the carpet!!!!!!!!!!!! I said I wouldn't pay it because it's under warranty, they said yes but it's the CPO warranty and only covers defects. Well, no $hit!!!! But the carpet is a result of the Lexus defect! Finally, they agreed to fix the carpet, but when I picked it up a week later, there was barbecue sauce all over my radio knob and Nav screen. I think I have had with the dealership. About six months ago after having it detailed there were cigarette ashes on my floorboard and I have never smoked, what a joke. This is at the Tom Williams Lexus Dealership in Birmingham, AL by the way. I must admit my service guy I meet with is very nice and the service manager is very nice, but their behind the scene employees have much to be desired. I hope they read this... I was so mad when I got in my car that I didn't even go back in, I was afraid I would go way over the line.

  6. Can someone please tell the most current version of the Lexus DVD navigation system. I would like to buy one of the Lexus discs off Ebay but I don't know which version to get. I have a 2004 ES 330. I am not sure if this matters, but I don't know if the system has ever been updated, but DVD discs inserts in the dash behind the Nav screen.

    Thanks,

    FA

YOU NEED A 4TH GENERATION UPDATE. on ebay the best way to find it is in the pictures the 6.1 4th has u21 designation at 2 oclock on the disc.the part number is 86871-33046. it lists for 1000.00 as that part number but the lexus dealers sell them for 300.00 with a pt parts dept number.

there are numerous other 6.1 discs on ebay all of them wont work on your 4th generation es330 . do not buy the 2nd 3rd 6.1 u01 or the lexus toyota 5th genration u31for denso made gps computers. or the toyota avalon 5th gen 6.1 u50 for eisen computer or the prius 5th gen 6.1 u41 for eisen computer. none of those 6.1 discs will work.

ALSO BEWARE OF EBAY SELLERS THAT LIST 4TH GENRATION COMPATIBLITY BUT PICTURE A U31 DISC INSTEAD OF U21. ALSO BEWARE OF EBAY SELLERS WITH CHEAP PRICE FOR U21 79.99 WITH PICTURE OF ORIGINAL DISC. YOU WILL GET A COPY NOT AN ORIGINAL FOR THAT PRICE

Thank you very much for your help, that was a perfect response.

  8. Does anyone know what the Lexus dealership uses to detail the seats on a Certified Preowned car? I have never been able to recapture how great the seats were after I bought it and the car was two years old.

  9. Can anyone tell me what size sub woofer comes standard in a 2004 Lexus ES 330 without the Levinson Audio? Also do you think adding some type of high end woofer would sound better? If so could you recommend some specific ones, please? I am not a real stereo savvy person, but if I know what to buy, I know I can switch them out myself, if someone could offer some pointers or directions. I greatly appreciate your input.

    Thanks,

    FA
