  1. Greentingray is not crazy, as I am seeing the same issue with my new IS 250 '08. This was surprising to me that even though I have the AC on Auto and the temperature outside is 68F, I can set the temperature to 78F and COLD air still comes out the center vents. I have an Acura MDX and other cars and none have cold air coming out the center vents when the heat is on. I did read somewhere that if the sensor detects hotter air inside than outside the air will also come on (shows arrows at both head and feet on NAV), and I believe this is likey b/c of radative heat transfer through the glass making the inside actually hotter. But that is some really COLD air coming in. I was searching this forum for this specific reason and I'm glad to see I'm not alone. I guess this is something that is probably not broken, but something that is intended fuctionality that doesn't quite work as expected.

if you look at the owners manual it shows that when air directed to the bottom, some comes from the top as well (small arrows top, large on bottom).

i too find it very annoying

one thing i hate is that the temperature from the top vents seems to be just as hot as the bottom. if the air were a bit cooler it wouldnt be bad.

obvioously manually closing the vents solves the issue, but i hate doing that, because i am manually fiddling with the automatic system.

agree that it it is not broken - just an awful design.

have another vehicle with auto climate, when the cabin reaches set temperature, OUTSIDE air come in to the defroster. ouch, on a cold day it is awful. that system is made by Denso, and this was common for all debso systems around the time.

any idea who makes the lexus system? maybe there is a setting to close the top 100% when air directed to the bottom.

  2. Keep making them do it till they get it right.

I think you are correct Barkat. But this can take a substantial amount of your time and energy and will undoubtably lead to just more of the same. I dealer I go to does a great job. I have been dealing with issues (albeit minor) since maybe 3,000 miles. It is the game of "Wacka Mole", once one thing gets settled another pops up. Unfortunately the dealer is trying to make the best of a flawed product. They actually encourage me to come back if I am unsatisfied. Things do get silenced down for a bit , but within the next 3000 miles another noise rears its head.

I know this had been argued back and forth, and don't get me wrong I think its a great looking design, but the fact is (by reading the threads on this very forum) that these late model LEXUS products (at least the interior combination of materials) are poorly selected and assembled. And with this third generation very little has changed in the assembly or factory fixing of TSB items from earlier generations. Its really sad as I think this is the best looking car on the road.

are there the same isues on the other lexus models? i wonder if overall the elxus quality is slipping and/or they are chossing cheaper materials. or maybe its just the IS...

  3. It's more of a personal preference as to whether you want to use the Auto setting or not during the cold weather as some people don't like the heat/air-con split (more to the point, many don't like having cold air blown on their face however this does have it's reasons).

Other than that, you may find that without the airconditioning and with the air on recirculate, your windows will fog up because if you recirculate the air in the car the air will eventually get thicker and thicker (as you exhale) and as a result start fogging up your windows. If you use recirculate and the aircon then this isn't a problem as the airconditioner dehumidifies the air (hence the trail of water your car leaves).

i leave the system on auto all the time. i dont get cold air in my face. i get warm air. it is quite annoying.

in other cars the upper air is cooler than the lower air. here it seems they are the same. is this normal?

to keep at a temperature comfortable for my face, my feet are usually cold.

  4. dial by name:

    say dial buy name

car responds 'dial by name has been chosen, when the display has updated please say the name'

    you press talk switch

it says please say the name

    you say the name

it says the name you just said

then it says push off hook switch to dial orsay dial

    oir something like that

    ANNOYING

blackberry 8830 was able to transfer phone book no problem.

my older blackberry (7250) didnt work

  5. i remember reading somewhere (not sure where), that its 70% rear and 30% front all the time, and it adjusts additionally as needed.

there is a light on the dash that illuminates (looks like a car with skid marks behind it) when it detects wheel slippage. when this happens i assume it is adjusting the front/rear mix.

  6. ive had a similar experience, but actually i did notice my right foot is OK, but my left is freezing. also seems that the ehat coming out of the face vents is warmer than the foot vents. personally, i like heat to come out only on the feet but this is impossible.

in for 5k service i mentioned it to the tech who checked it out and said it was normal. no big surpise there.

im hoping a TSB comes out because something is just not right.

  7. I have a 2007 IS250 on order for my daughter and plan to have XM radio installed by the dealer. I know the 2007 now has the "shark-fin" antenna. On the 2007, will this be for the XM along with the navigation or will there be a separate antenna for the XM? If there is a separate antenna, where would I expect the dealer to install it? Thanks for any input.

My understanding is that the NAV system has not changed at all, and the antenna is still not exposed.

The shark fin antenna is for the sat radio, as EVERYONE was complaining about the after-market antenna being installed with the sat option.

where is the nav antenna, anyway?
