  1. I plan on doing an oil change myself and I plan on switching to sythetic for the first time. The car is 2002 Lexus ES with 29K miles. Is it safe to switch on sythetic with that age and miles???? Also I live in Chicago and plan on going with MOBIL EP full sythetic 5W-30. Is 5W-30 good for this type of car????? I will go with OEM oil filter please respond thank you.

  2. Here is the story. My car comes with stock 6CD in dash radio. I just bought factory double din navigation trim and plan on getting Pioneer FH900BT double din navigation. Is this install possible? Do they fit in the dash or do they make kit to properly fit in there??? Do they make harness to isntall it?? I went to audio place and they will let me know if they make harness for it. I so want to do that setup. ANYONE ISTALLED AFTERMARKET NAVIGATION IN THEIR 2002+ ES300?????????? Do you have picture of it???? Thank you.

  3. Hi folks,

actually there are 3 cars that I am considering, all in the $12,500-$13,000 range, the ES330 with 96K, the Maxima with 67K, and a Volvo S60 2004 with 45K.

Indeed I expected bias in the answer Maxima vs Lexus, but I also expected details about what goes wrong after 100K. Apparent not much! Thanks for your help so far.

How can we know what goes wrong after 100K miles on ES330 engine when that engine got out in 2004 and probably most of us never got to that mileage so far.

  4. I would like to find out what should happen to the car (lexus es 330) if transmission fluid is gone?

Should any control go on? Is the car smart enough to know it shouldn't start up?

I was looking for answers on the web and also on this forum but couldn't find anything...

No fluid in transmission would not make car not start because starting has nothing to do with transmission. Depends if you are trying to put car in "D" and try to accdelerate it would not move now if you were in driving range motion and no fluid I assume transmission would lock up.

    Commercial

Vehicle was registered for business purposes.

    First Owner

When the first owner(s) obtains a title from a Department of Motor Vehicles as proof of ownership.

    Lease

When someone leases a car from a dealer, the dealer actually sells the vehicle to a leasing company. The leasing company then collects payments for the vehicle from the new owner for 24, 36, 48 or more months. A leasing company can be an independent car dealer or a car manufacturer.

    New Owner Reported

When a vehicle is sold to a new owner, the Title must be transferred to the new owner(s) at a Department of Motor Vehicles.

    Ownership History

CARFAX defines an owner as an individual or business that possesses and uses a vehicle. Not all title transactions represent changes in ownership. To provide estimated number of owners, CARFAX proprietary technology analyzes all the events in a vehicle history. Estimated ownership is available for vehicles manufactured after 1994 and titled solely in the US including Puerto Rico. Dealers sometimes opt to take ownership of a vehicle and are required to in the following states: Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and South Dakota. Please consider this as you review a vehicle's estimated ownership history.

    Title Issued

A state issues a title to provide a vehicle owner with proof of ownership. Each title has a unique number. Each title or registration record on a CARFAX report does not necessarily indicate a change in ownership. In Canada, a registration and bill of sale are used as proof of ownership.

CARFAX DEPENDS ON ITS SOURCES FOR THE ACCURACY AND RELIABILITY OF ITS INFORMATION. THEREFORE, NO RESPONSIBILITY IS ASSUMED BY CARFAX OR ITS AGENTS FOR ERRORS OR OMISSIONS IN THIS REPORT. Accident Indicator

Various events could indicate an accident in a vehicle's history, such as: salvage auction, fire damage, police-reported accident, crash test vehicle, damage disclosure, collision repair facility and automotive recycler records. See the glossary for more information.Airbag Deployment

Occurs when the driver, passenger or side airbag has been used or deployed during a crash or other incident. If an airbag has been deployed, it must be replaced by a qualified technician. Have this car inspected by a mechanic prior to purchase.Total Loss

An insurance or fleet company declares a vehicle a total loss when a claim exceeds ~ 75% of its pre-damage value or if the vehicle is stolen and not recovered. This damage threshold varies by company. These companies typically take possession and obtain the title. Not all total loss vehicles result in a DMV-reported branded title, like a Salvage or Junk title. See the glossary for more information.Structural / Frame Damage

In most cases, a vehicle is inspected for structural or frame damage, depending on the body design, after an accident or other incident. All levels of accidents from minor to severe can cause structural / frame damage and in most cases it can be repaired. Odometer Rollback

If a more recent odometer reading is less than an older reading, then the odometer may have been tampered with and "rolled back".Manufacturer Recall

Automobile manufacturers issue recall notices to inform owners of car defects that have come to the manufacturer's attention. Recalls also suggest improvements that can be made to improve the safety of a particular vehicle. Most manufacturer recalls can be repaired at no cost to you.Basic Warranty

Most manufacturers offer a basic warranty for new vehicles. These warranties vary by manufacturer and typically last for a certain amount of time and/or a set number of miles.Salvage Title

A Salvage Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle exceeds ~ 75% of its pre-damage value. This damage threshold may vary by state. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage but the majority use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again in that state. The following ten States also use Salvage titles to identify stolen vehicles - AZ, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, NJ, NM, NY, OK and OR.Junk Title

A Junk Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle exceeds ~ 75% of its pre-damage value. This damage threshold may vary by state. The majority of states use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage.Rebuilt/Reconstructed Title

A Rebuilt/Reconstructed vehicle is a salvage vehicle that has been repaired and restored to operation. These vehicles are often severely damaged before they are rebuilt and refurbished parts are typically used during reconstruction. In most states, an inspection of the vehicle is required before the vehicle is allowed to return to the road. Loss Due To Fire Title

The vehicle sustained major damage due to fire. In most states, fire damage titles are issued when the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value.Flood Damage Title

States issue flood titles when a vehicle has been in a flood or has received extensive water damage. Hail Damage Title

The vehicle sustained major damage due to hail. In most states, hail damage titles are issued when the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value.Manufacturer Buyback or Lemon

A DMV or a state agency marks an official document or issues a Manufacturer Buyback/Lemon title when a vehicle has been repurchased by the manufacturer. Not all states issue manufacturer buyback titles and the specific requirements for a lemon law vehicle varies by state. Not Actual Mileage Title

When the seller certifies, under the Federal Odometer Act, that the odometer reading does not reflect the vehicle's actual mileage. This may occur because the odometer was tampered with, broken, or replaced.Exceeds Mechanical Limits

A vehicle with a 5-digit odometer cannot accurately track mileage after 99,999 miles because the odometer rolls over. This title is the result of a seller certifying under the Federal Odometer Act, that the odometer reading EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS of the odometer.Standard Equipment

    Recall date: 12-05-2001

    Units potentially affected: 1,697

    NHTSA campaign number: 01V371000

    Defective part or component: BRAKES:HYDRAULIC:LINES:HOSE:NON-METALLIC

Description: Vehicle Description: Passenger vehicles. The left front brake tube may have been deformed prior to vehicle delivery due to improper installation of a coil spring spacer that was installed to prevent damage to the vehicle during transportation. If the brake tube is deformed significantly, it could contact the inner fender panel, and eventually cause damage to the tube due to vibration during driving. Brake tube damage could also lead to brake fluid leakage after extended use of the vehicle. Dealers will inspect the front brake line and, if necessary, replace the line. Owner notification is expected to begin during January 2002. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Lexus at 1-888-333-9376.

    Recall date: 12-05-2001

    Units potentially affected: 19,587

    NHTSA campaign number: 01V372000

Defective part or component: INTERIOR SYSTEMS:PASSENGER RESTRAINTS:AIR BAG:FRONTAL

Description: Vehicle Description: Passenger vehicles equipped with a three-spoke style steering wheel. During air bag deployment, it is possible that the bottom seam of the front driver's side air bag module cover (horn pad) could be torn away allowing the bottom portion of the cover to completely detach from the air bag module. If this should occur, there is a possibility that the detached bottom portion may strike the driver causing personal injury. Dealers will replace the driver's side air bag module. Owner notification began December 28, 2001. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 or Lexus at 1-888-333-9376.

    Category: Review:

Summary: A total redesign makes a new machine out of the venerable ES 300.

    By Sam Moses, NewCarTestDrive.com

The 2002 ES 300 is a strong contender in its class, if not the new favorite. And if the old ES 300 was a deserved success, the new one, a much better performing and better looking car for the same price, has got to be considered a winner.

Overview: When the Lexus ES 300 first arrived a little more than a decade ago, ES stood for "Executive Sedan," suggesting conservatism. Executives, not to mention sedans, have changed a lot since then. Now we have the all-new 2002 ES 300, with conservative execution but aggressive styling. From venerable to bold, one swift stroke. The careful elegance of this car is going to knock some executives' socks off.

  6. This is my 1993 Lexus GS300. It has been in my familly since brand new with no problems whatsoever. Only tune ups, tires and brakes. It has been detailed weekly to keep paint look brand new. Any suggestions please let me know and also glad to be member of this great community. It has over 210 000 miles and still going strong :)

    more pictures :)

Thank you guys for all of the replies. Yes the car is bone stock. I do have 17' BBS RK wheels with 225/45/17 pirelli tires that I may put on it but the winter is coming in Chicago so I will wait. Also every time I take car to a Lexus dealer for a oil change they cannot believe it has over 210 000 miles people think still that the car is like year 2000 with 50000 miles because of the style and all of the goddies it has.
