  1. Hello all who read...

This is a review of the lextreme torque converter on my 01 gs 430...for starters I must say that r & r of our transmission is a pain and my back was sore for days after this...lol

So here it is plain and simple if anyone has any questions please feel free to ask: As we all know our cars seem to be a bit on the slushy side when it comes to shifting and power delivery. The torque converter was claimed to raise stall and move the power delivery higher in the power band, which it did and now I can say that I can happily burn out without having to really romp on the gas. I think it's more of a novelty than anything else, you know the grin you get? I was really surprised how much fun the car was to drive of the line. It feels like something was slipping before and not allowing all the power to get to the ground and now it just feels like it should have...and the butt dyno never lies....right :) Also not to mention it does seem to shift quicker...now I don't know if thats the politically correct thing to say but it sure seems that way. I think with an upgraded valve body it would be worlds of fun! Well for the price and the warranty I cannot complain. Honestly I was a bit reluctant to go through with this experiment but I'm pretty happy with the results...the bad thing is that now I'm really wishing I had a lsd, so I can take of the traction control :)

I know it's short but if anyone has a question about it please don't hesitate...have a good one

  2. Is the aftermarket pipe diameter the same size as stock?

The symptom you are getting is unregulated air getting past or a leak, but if the pipe is larger it may be causing these symptoms

I bought this intake on eBay and I assembled it according to the picture. I removed my stock intake and tried putting this one on, but when I turned on the car, the rpm kept gong up and down. I put my stock one back and now I need your help installing the one I bought. Please help asap. Thanks

Here is the intake I bought:

  3. I recently had a p/s pump leak which caused p/s fluid to drip everywhere. I got Gunk engine cleaner but I'm nevouse to clean the engine because of all the sensors...ect Any help?

I've used simple green: I put a plastic grocery bag over the alt. spray simple green all over the place, wait 5 min. then rinse. I usually let it dry over night before I drive it again with the hood up. Hope that helps. Cleans really nice!

  4. I think your asking for trouble. 2mm doesn't look like alot, but when after you go thru all the hoops you need to get them to fit and then this "strange vibration" that starts, and then what? Direct fit or forget it when it comes to the ride. What are the offsets and sizes?

He's right...I would not use the adapters or spacers unless you don't care about ride quality.

  5. I got a set of Beyern mesh 19x8.5 et40 and 19x9.5 et45 and was wondering if I got adaptors will this offset work out. I think the norm is around 25mm thick. so et15 for the front and et25 for the rear. Thanks in advance for any help. Got a good deal on the wheels and would like to try it out on my sister's ride.

I know the bolt pattern is diff. Our's are 114.3 x 5 and I think the germans are 120.?? x 5. Somebody may make a spacer but the gs is a very temperamental ride when it comes to wheels. Make sure you get something hub centric. Hope that helps.

  6. I'm looking for a difinitive answer here on the this one, I think I have it diagnosed but would like to know for sure before I drop $150.00+ on the part. It seems to be a common problem on Lexus models that at some point the dual climate control either fails on one side or puts out less heat than the other side. So either your driver side blows hot and your passenger side blows cold or the reverse is true. This can happen whether it set on the dual mode controlling both sides or when you're trying to control the temperature individually. My '02 GS300 has the problem on the passenger side and I think it's the servo motor that can be found behind the glove box that is the culprit but before I drop the dough I'm wondering if I can get a difinitive answer from someone who has had this problem and fixed it. I've heard this problem also is common in the RX. I have already replaced the servo that controls the air/mix function but there is another one and I'm thinking it's bad too. Any one with any knowledge or who has had the same problem and fixed it--your input would be greatly appreciated...thanks...D

    Hi D,

I too have the same issue...imagine that!!! :0 Did you take the dash out yet? I had a chance to take a look back there and I was not sure which servo was giving me problems...how did you figure that out. There are 3 on the gs. Anyway when I removed the dash I found that one of the blend doors..ie drivers side becase that is the one blowing cold air, is not closing all the way. So I just gave up because the weather changed for the better and now it's cold again and so am I. I'd like to figure this out with you because I know the units are about 130-150 per servo. What about the temp sensor below the key ignition? Could be a bad sensor, the gs gets is cabin reference from 3 sensors also. Two light (in the dash) and one air flow temp sensor, very similar to maf sensor.

I'm sure one of these is the issue:

    heater head unit

    2 sun sensors

cabin air temp sensor and hose

    3 cabin servos

    cabin blend doors.

Now I read that another gentlemen, I believe sakorti???? maybe said he had the mark levinson navigation. I think their heater and sound system is integrated, which would lead me to believe that could possibly rule out our head unit. The hose that draws air over the temp sensor is kind of cheesy....my sensor had a lot of dust on it so I do recommend everyone clean it. Lets start there and see what happens...give me some feedback I'd like to know what happens.

my name is sakataj not sakorti..............yes i have the ML nav so its not the head unit. FIRST AND FOREMOST DO NOT TAKE OUT THE DASH ITS NOT NEEDED FOR THIS.if your drivers side is blowing cold air the servo and blend door ARE STILL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE and you dont need to pull the dash!!! u def hit the nail on the head,NORMALLY this is a servo motor problem and yes the rx's have a problem with this just like the gs (FINALLY WOW EITHER A SMART NOOB OR A NOOB WHO KNOWS HOW TO SEARCH 1ST, I SAY NOOB BUT U BEEN ON HERE FOR ALMOST 3 YEARS JUST NO POSTS REALLY but MY HATS OFF TO YOU darrylg33 FOR DOING YOUR OWN RESEARCH 1ST :D ) ........there are technically 4 servo motors on the gs series. 3 of them are on the right side (passenger) (if your counting the fresh air recirculation servo which some people dont) and the temp servo and the mode servo (plus the one on the drivers side, IT does require pulling part of the dash but the other 3 dont.......just take out glovebox. i have done this and fixed it but since i was being cheap i used, used servo's and they out now again too! wont do that again......if u remove glovebox...ask guytelephunken for a pdf on this or pm me and i can walk you throughh it....you'll see the 3 servos under the dash (damn i wish i had finished my DIY write up already) but you'll know which one it is......it will be crunchin and making computer harddrive whirr noises as its failing to close the blend doors all the way.

with glovebox off,cd player removed, plastic shroud removed......turn car off.......start it and listen for servo making funky noises i promise you'll know which one it is. i just replaced both (i dont wanna deal with it again) and go from there....i found some for like 139 and 160 but i have to find my notes. i told you i started a DIY with like 100 pics but i havent finished it....will do so when i put in new ones AGAIN

pm me or post on here if you need nething else. oh yeah and if AFTER doin this u still have ne problems.......then look into

    these

    heater head unit

    2 sun sensors

cabin air temp sensor and hose

but not normally these and i would be willing to bet its just the servo motor.

Hey Brian...sorry about the name confusion, please forgive the NOOB. I don't post much and keep to myself but when I can help I try. I've been fighting with the climate control for about a year or so. I's kinda funny because, as you know it kinda creeps up on you and then you're cold. realizing there is a 7 degree spread of temp from right to left.

    I'll pm you!

  7. OK, my gas mileage truly sucks now. 14 mpg, and it dropped off quite suddenly. We're almost not driving the Lexus at all. We plan to take care of the full range of tuneup items in a few months, but I just want to know which item is the most likely candidate for killing our mileage and maybe I can fix this item myself now.

The car has 101,000 miles. To my eye the first spark plug looks like it has life left. The tires are properly inflated. What's the most likely culprit, or is this even answerable?

    thanks!

Could be transmission related if not tune up issues...what year is your car again?

  9. So I was doing some electrical work today on my car and I can't decide if I'm going insane or not. I could have sworn that my radio/climate unit used to be backlit, but now they aren't. I popped a fuse or two while doing the electrical work, but I can find one in the manual that fixes my issues.

Does my car usually have a backlight on the stereo and climate control unit? If so, which fuse is popped and where can I find it?

P.S. I could have sworn my cig lighter used to have a round guidelight on it too. Am i crazy?

Not uncommon, I had the same thing happen. Not to mention that I lost the back lighting to my heated seats and gear selector. You can go up to radio shack and pickup some LED's. Now mind you they are dimmer but I always felt the factory was too bright anyway. I choose to use red I kinda like it.

  10. ok so since the weather can't decide in Memphis if its gonna be cold or hot from day to day i might get this fixed NOW! do i just need to replace the blend door or the actuator? how do i know which one to change? seriously someone can you help?

I've had the same issue. I have an 01 gs 430...took it to two different dealers and they told me that this not abnormal and it is what it is. I fully agree with everyone here on the board, that there is a problem. If they are not going to help us fix the issue then it is just someone who is going to have to do process of elimination. I'd start with the easy and cheap. I've had the dash board out of the car and believe me, it is not fun. What I found is the the blend door does not close fully leaving it partially open the mixture is off. The question is that who is giving it bad information? One of the three sensors, is the head unit of the heater out of calibration>?

  11. Lexazur...my first time posting but I can say that I am having a very similar problem over here in the states with my 01 gs 430. Kind of funny, same year and similar problem!

    Are you getting a CEL?

My symptom is when it is cold: stumbles of idle, while at light load and cruise.

I had this symptom before and it did go away but now has returned. It would be nice if we could put our heads together to get rid of this problem because it is such a thorn in the side.

    Hi guy's,

    Well I have a 2001 GS 430 (uk car)

We do not have many 430's in Europe so I hoped you guys could help as you have alot more of them

It has been doing it sometimes during the cold weather but has got a real pain now the temp has increased.

It now hesitates when pulling away missing once or sometimes 3 or 5 times before pulling away, it also does it at 20kmh, 30kmh and has even done it at 50 and 60 kmh.

What actually happens is when the throttle pedal is just lightly pushed the car misses hence the higher speeds and it has even done this best discribed as a judder/misfire 5 times at 50 kph while driving along.

It appears to me that this happens when the throttle is just touched and then it hesitates then smoothly pulls away.

It does this uphill, downhill, from a standing start, while rolling slowly and while driving along between 15-40kmh when very lightly accerlerating.

It is fine when the car is cold with no problems and then after about 30-45 mins it then starts to play up. If the car is not driven for about 4-5 hours it is fine untill it gets hot and the fun starts again.

Has anyone had this sort of problem on a GS? I have my thoughts on what I think it could be but would welcome other opinons/thougths???

ANY HELP WOULD BE VERY HELPFULL PLEASE

The following is from the orginal posting on the UK site and some more info/history

My 2001 GS 430 has a problem, when the car is hot and I pull away from a standing start the car hesitates for a second and then drives away. No problems once the car moves away just when you pull away and some days it will be ok even when hot and other days it is a pain all day once hot.

This problem does not occur when the car is cold, and does not appear to be a misfire.

My Lexus garage put it on the computer and found no problem so they drove it up the road on the computer. They have told me that the problem is the car sometimes pulls away in 2nd gear instead of 1st hence the hesitation.

Their solution replace gearbox € 7,900

Has anyone had the same problem, fixed this problem or any other suggestions on how to fix this please?????

I am wondering if this could only be an electrical/sensor problem as the gearbox is ok apart from this one thing.

Any help or advice would be great please
