  1. Ive been searching through old threads and couldnt find a problem like I'm having

I have a 92 LS400, and on the freeway , starting at about 70mph I can feel a weird rumbling/vibration in my car. The funny thing is, It will rumble for 3 seconds, and then go totally smooth for 2 seconds, then rumble again for 3 seconds, and then again go smooth for 2 seconds. It does this VERY consistantly, and will keep doing it at those speeds. Its most prominent between 75-80. Anything faster and you can feel it, but not as bad as when your at that speed. Anything under 65 and the car is silky smooth.

Also, anything faster than 80, it will rumble for rumble for 1 1/2 seconds, then go away for 1 second (the faster you go the shorter the rumbles). I cant really feel it when I'm coasting in Neutral, but as soon as I pop it back into drive it will do it again.

When Im at those speeds and put it in neutral, I watched the RPM needle and when its at idle, it idles smooth, no miss or RPM scavenging, and when Im in neutral, coasting at those speeds, if I rev it up to 2500-3000 (the rpm range it usually vibrates in) it still feels smooth, so it only rumbles in gear and above 70

Ive searched through many threads on here and no one has a problem like the one I have. Theyre rumble/vibration doesnt happen consistantly like mine. Most of the time their motormounts/transmission mount is bad. Could this be my problem too?

    Please advise, thankyou!

    Hi,

The same thing happened to my 92 LS400, I brought it to the transmission shop to check out the transmission mount, engine mount, everything seems to be fine, they could not find out what is wrong with it.

Finally, I changed the tires (my older set was Firestone), because it is about time, and the problem is GONE.

My suggestion to you is, balance the tires, or change them.

    Hope this help.

    Hi,

Does anyone has an (visual) instructions for changing valve cover gasket for 92 LS400? I used to do tune up on older toyota car myself. I just wonder if this easy job to do?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hat Be

Thanks you guys, I bent the tabs away and was able to get the old ones out with a punch and a hammer.

I have a new problem now. I can't get the new ones in. I have already torn up the rubber on one of the gaskets trying to get it in. Please let me know if there is a method to getting them in there.

    Thanks

for those of u who may want to do this later.....you can buy the exact same spark plug tube o-rings from toyota......call lexus get the part number, then call toyota and give them that number.......i did it and it cost me less than half the price, this works with a lot of parts for this car, some of the parts toyota may not carry but some of them they dont......just a bit of advice, also i have a 92 Ls 400 and have done everything to my car, from starter, water pump, timing belt, injectors and also the power steering(rack and hoses as well), also replaced knock sensors and 02 sensors........just ask and i will let u know what to do......

  4. Hi,

I got a same problem with my toyota celica, I tried to change the fuel filter, but it still have the same problem, then I took the car to the dealer, they check it and is was the fuel pump, it is not pumping enough gas to the engine, they replaced the fuel pump and it works fine.

    Hope this help,

My 1995 LS400 takes like 5secs to start, sometimes less. If I try to start and it don't start, the next time it starts much faster.

I also have no power usally when I'm starting from stop. The car vertually can't move, but I have more power if I don't press the gas down very much.

It seems to want to stall on a quick hit of gas. It like when the engine normally generate a high vacume, opening the trottal screws it up.

Anyway I have new Spark plugs, distributor, timing belt, water pump, termostate, and I checked to hear all the injectors clicking away. I also used good stuff for cleaning the throtal body, injector clearn in the gas, along with cleaner that is sucked up by vacume to clean all the engine.

  5. These are the issues that I have with 92 LS400. The car is in good shape, no leaks, still running smooth and strong, I love this car.

I just want to share these with you guys.

    - Review mirror getting dark, replaced

    - Door lock switch malfunction, replaced

    - AC climate control LCD display failed, my co-worker changed later at 145K miles

    - Tachometer needle light only haft way, replaced the whole dashboard display, $150

    150K miles: (2006)

    - power steering pump leak, rebuild, $250

    - replace high pressure hose, $220

    - steering valve malfunction, replaced, bought at eBay for $80

    152K miles: (2006)

    - AC compressor lock up, and then function again, recharged R12 and ran for 8 months, $85 before second leak

    160K miles (2007)

    - Leak at rear main seal, repaired at the transmission shop, $450

    - Leak at oil tube, changed the o-ring dipstick, parts cost $7

How come I don't see an alternator in there...?

The original alternator is still OK, but I forget to mention the hood support shocks FAILed at about 12OK miles, and I plan to purchase it from ebay for about $50/pair to replace

  7. Hi,

I got 92 LS400, the AC has a slow leak, I recharged R12 last July, and it is empty now.

I call different shops and have these options:

    1. Most shops recommend to convert to R134a and find leak, The conversion kit consist of a few adapters.

    2. Find leak with R12 and die then fix later.

Does anyone know if it is OK (safe) to convert from R12 to R134 after vacuum out all R12, or what else need to be repleaced?

    I really appreciate any feedback/suggestions.

    Thanks,

    HB
