  1. Hello all,

I was curious if anyone has experienced the same problem i am currently having with my Navigation system. First off i have searched this forum and have not found any similar post. I take the same way to work everyday and my navigation system had no problems displaying all the streets in my area, all of sudden all the streets disappeared for no reason at all. Now when i drive the icon is just moving in a big empty space. Anyone heard of this? I have a 2007 IS 250. gen 5 nav, not sure which map version. Its the one that came out in 07 cause i have not upgraded versions or so much as attempted to remove the disk. I have never worked on the car or had any type of electrical issues. This puzzles me because one day all the streets are there and the next day they are gone. Any suggestions would be great.

This could be too simple, and I'm not suggesting you haven't explored all the features before, but is it possible someone changed the display range? I normally keep mine at 700 ft and when I change it to the next step, I believe .25 miles, a lot of streets disappear. Maybe it got changed unknowingly.

  2. hi

Recently i bought a used is350 with 42k miles on it from a nice dealership in town. then i found out the roof is leaking and it rains like 360days in seattle... i took it to lexus of bellevue... they said possibly it's leaking due to the clogged pipe or watever so ok... took a loaner 3 days later i went to pick it up... drove to a party on the way there at night pitch dark i reached into the hole where it was leaking.... yes sir.........still leaking.........so i'm very disappointed anyone has this problem? if u do did u fix it? or how did u fix it? i have 1year or 8k left on the warranty.. lexus told me they couldnt find the leak after they worked on it... and spray water over that...no more leak.... i believe it leaks when the car is in motion. please help a newbie out and allow him enjoy his is350...

    thank you

When you say it's leaking, is it coming into the car or are you referring to water in the trough around the opening that's exposed when you fully open the roof? To some degree, there will be a little seepage getting around the glass portion and into that trough, and the trough is drained by tubes running behind the trim work to let it drain. Take a look at the trough and see if you see the drains, maybe let a little water run into those holes using a bottle or some container that will let you control the flow. If it's just some water collecting there and draining, it's not really a problem as long as the seals around the glass look like they have integrity and aren't gapped or torn. If the water drains in your experiment, then any water seeping around the seals will drain without damaging your trim. Often small leaves will block those drain holes and tubes.

  3. Hi

I've had my 2009 IS350 for a few months now, and from the very beginning I've had this problem with the AC:

You know that button that has 3 states - "recirculate", "outside air", and "auto". Basically I want it on "auto" ALL THE TIME. But sometimes (ranging from twice a day to twice a week) when I start the car it loses its setting and resets to "outside air". I can sometimes see the "auto" light turn on briefly as I am starting the car, and then turn off immediately.

    Anybody else has this problem?

    Thanks

    Ivo

P.S. I am bringing my car to the dealer in 2 days for its first maintenance and I will ask them, but I want to see if it is a common problem first.

Are you turning the compressor off (A/C) button, perhaps to let the system clear out with fresh air before shut-down? When you stop the A/C I believe it reverts to outside air rather than auto on the air source button. It would resume in that outside air setting. I seem to recall there's a personalized (dealer) setting that may let it stay on outside air all the time (or some variation of that).

  4. It is the fuel pump. Nothing to worry about.

Just wondering why the fuel pump is running hours after the vehicle has been shut off?

It is a pump but it's actually evacuating any gas vapors in the tank as I recall. It's covered in the hybrid manual, I expect it's also in the regular manual. The hybrid also has a few other similar sounds right after you turn it off.

  5. Is there any way to make the up/down buttons on the steering wheel not just run through your memory set stations, but rather have the same function as the tune knob - so I can just go from 88.1 to 88.3 to 88.5 to 88.7 & so on?

This is not exactly what you want, but it will get you to a broadcasting station rather than just your presets: (from the manual)

Press ∧ or ∨ on to select a radio station.

To scan for receivable stations, press and hold the switch until you hear

    a beep.

  6. HI all,

I just got my Rx 350 - love it! The only minor thing . . .but it gets annoying . . . is the automatic dimming of the rearview mirror. I don't want to have to shut it off each time I start up the car. I park my car in a public garage and it's quite difficult to see what's behind me in the dark garage. I know it's a simple matter of shutting off the anti-glare mechanism but it gets annoying to do that everytime I start the car. Any ideas? Thanks!

I believe the dimming also cancels when you put the RX in reverse. The dark tint rear glass obviously reduces vision, as well. I would expect you'll adapt to the view in a short time.

  7. Anyone have any ideas why my fog lights wont wor? In the manual it says they only work with low beams, I have made sure the light switch is on, I have the headlight switch in auto and I have the fancy self-adjusting headlight package switch in the on position. Tried with car in drive, park, engine on to no avail. Perhaps a blown fuse. Going to take it to the dealer on Monday to have a look. I am not that dumb!

Sounds right assuming it's dark enough to have the headlamps on in auto. Do they work when the headlight switch is moved to the next notch--headlamps on versus the auto position?

  8. I just did a search and nothing of any value came up. Sorry for the misdirection. I know I read several posts a few months ago on the subject but just can't find them.

Anyway, most people thought it was the cabin air filter deteriorating but replacing it didn't seem to do much good. Odd, because it is supposed to filler the incoming air from the heater.

Here's one thread, at least. Try a search on white particles and white dust, as well, and you may get more, but it seems it's an internal piece causing it.

  9. I don't know if that was just people confused or if Lexus really did clearcoat some black for a while. I had heard reports from some detailers that did some black Lexus vehicles in that period that were clearcoated, but I have seen firsthand current model Lexus black cars that are definately, unquestionably unclearcoated single stage. So...I dunno.

*I* have never detailed a black Lexus that had a clearcoat.

The Meg's paint cleaner is very mild...you need something more abrasive. I'm 99% certain your IS is single stage.

I sent an email to Lexus on their owner support site, they said I should have an answer in a couple days. I asked specifically about my Obsidian (paint 212) for '08, and will relay the answer.

  10. You will often see internet postings indicating that black cars or white cars are not clear coated. I believe all manufacturers now use it on all colors, including Lexus. My black 08 IS passes this test, I suggest you try it as well (from Meguiars detailing FAQ):

I have detailed dozens of Black Lexus vehicles. Lexus black does not have a clearcoat, its obvious when machine polishing these vehicles because the black paint transfers to the pad on your polisher. Toyota white is also not clearcoated but Lexus white is.

What did you use to try and get the paint to transfer? You need something abrasive enough.

If I machine polished your black IS...the paint would transfer.

Go to www.autopia.org and search for "black Lexus" and read the posts, thousands of professional detailers there and plenty of discussions about the single stage Lexus black.

I used Meguiars Paint Cleaner and a cloth, no transfer. I also found this quote from you in the Detail Forum: June 06

New Lexus have clearcoated black, the started clearcoating them about 2001. Its not really a big deal, in fact the single stage Lexus black is some of the easiest paint to polish out.

  11. Your black Lexus does not have a clear coat. Lexus black is single stage.

The bad news? It wears easier because the paint is soft. The good news? Its very easy to polish out.

Check out the detailing forum or find a good well respected professional detailer in your area. I bet the car will come out of a detail and look incredible.

Paint requires maintenance, especially that paint but if you keep up on it its a great looking finish. I've detailed dozens of single stage black Lexus cars and they always come out looking great.

As for the silver bubbling around the shifter...I'd have the dealer replace that under warranty...

<_< You will often see internet postings indicating that black cars or white cars are not clear coated. I believe all manufacturers now use it on all colors, including Lexus. My black 08 IS passes this test, I suggest you try it as well (from Meguiars detailing FAQ):

To determine whether you have a clear coat or a single-stage finish perform this simple test.

Find an inconspicuous area to test, such as the lower rear quarter panel of your car's fender or inside the door jamb.

Clean this area first with car wash and water or Meguiar's Quik Detailer® or Ultimate Quik Detailer®. You don't want any dirt or grime to interfere with your test.

Using a small piece of white cotton, such as a piece of terry cloth towel, rub a little paint cleaner or Cleaner/Wax into the paint of this inconspicuous area.

After rubbing for a few moments, turn your cloth toward you and look to see if there is any color from your paint on the cloth. If you have a red car and you now have red paint residue on your cloth, this is a pretty good indicator that you have a single stage finish. If you have a red car and you don't see any red paint residue on your cloth, this is a pretty good indicator that you have a clear coat.

To be 100% sure, you should test in a couple of different areas.

Note: If you have a white, or very light colored car you should use a dark piece of cotton cloth and look for the color of your car's finish on it after rubbing some paint cleaner or Cleaner/Wax into the finish for a few moments.

  12. Hmm... didn't know this. That IS a pain, especially considering the other complex display functions this vehicle has.

One thing I do on my current vehicle is to reset the trip odometer as soon as I see the low fuel light go on. I then know

I have a reliable 50 miles to go. It helps that there are dual trip meters for this.

Hmm...someone tell me there are dual trip meters and a low fuel light on this thing...right? I'm about to buy one....

    I better check :whistles:

Yes, dual trips and a low fuel light.

  13. My 2007 RX400H has a trailer package (installed by Lexus) which includes a 4 wire electrical connector. The manual states that this car can tow up to 3500pounds. I bought an RV that weighs 2500 pounds and has brakes. I contacted several Lexus dealers along with numerous RV dealers. ALL of them refuse to modify the electrical connector to a 7 pin round connector which is necessary to activate the RV's brakes. Lexus now tells me that if I get it done it will harm the hybrid computer and charging system. By the way I even went to a Toyota dealer (Highlander hybrid) and they said the same thing. I feel very mislead by Lexus.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Ken

The '06 manual actually says trailer brakes are required for 1000+ lbs. It would seem there is some misunderstanding here--just take the manual pages in and go from there.

  14. And yes, the Feds require DLR's on NEW cars only, not older ones.

It's not Federal law, nor state for DRL's, per the iihs:

2 | Where are DRLs required?

Laws in Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden require vehicles to operate with lights on during the daytime. There are two types of laws. Canada's requires vehicles to be equipped with DRLs. The other type of law (in effect in Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden) requires motorists to turn on their headlights if their vehicles do not have automatic DRLs. In 1972, Finland mandated daytime running lights in winter on rural roads and a decade later made DRLs mandatory year-round. Sweden's law took effect in 1977, Norway's in 1986, Iceland's in 1988, and Denmark's in 1990. Hungary has required drivers on rural roads to operate with vehicle lights on since 1993. Canada requires DRLs for vehicles made after December 1, 1989. No US state mandates DRLs, but some require drivers to operate vehicles with lights on in bad weather.

  15. Goodyear??? Bad factory alignment??? Not sure if one or both problems but both corrected and I'm a happy driver!

I'd have to come down on the tire side--this particular Goodyear RS-A, not all Goodyears. I had inside edge feathering and significant wear on an 06 400h, but what got me was the noise--sounded like 4 snow tires--all at only 7700 miles, maintained at 32 psi. I just sprang for 4 Michelin MXV4 S8, sound is now swoosh instead of drone. I have an Avalon with 15k miles on the same Michelin from the factory and when parked side-by-side the wear on the RX's Goodyears was dramatic at only half the miles. I don't understand Lexus fitting that Goodyear with such a low treadwear rating (260, I believe) when the RX's coming with Michelins are a 440 rating. The tire dealer checked my alignment (free with 4 mounts) and it was right on spec, so it's not the car. Better than new now!

  16. Does anyone know how to reset the average gas mileage (mpg) on the dash display? Specifically, the data display that shows the mpg since the car was new, not the current mpg that can vary from moment to moment.

I don't have the GPS screen and tried holding down the INFO button for 1 second, then several seconds, and no change. That is the only technique that I can find in the manual.

If it resets when the battery is disconnected at least that is one method. Of course, that causes several other things to have to be reset as well.

Thanks to anyone with a hint.

You're doing it right, just hold it a little longer, maybe. Display the avg mpg on the center dash display, hold the Info button down, and it resets to zero.

  17. Help, for some reason my automatic opening and closing on my moonroof has stopped working. Now I have to hold the button to open or close it, as opposed to before, it just took one touch and it would open and/or close. I have tried reinitializing but guess I'm not doing it correctly because I can't get it back to the automatic opening/closing. Any suggestions?

If you're initializing it by holding the switch in the rear pop-up position for 3 seconds, then releasing, no other suggestions than a trip to the dealer.

  18. I have about 4,600 miles on my 08 RX 350. Today the 'Maintenance Required' light started flashing when I started it up, and then went off after a few seconds. Is this just reminding me that my 5K maintenance is coming up soon, or could this be something more serious?

Is this feature designed to come on at or near the 5K mile intervals as a reminder to take the vehicle in for regularly scheduled maintenance?

I googled this question, and scoured my owner's manual with no luck..

    Thanks!

Most likely, you need to change your oil. I believe the first 5000 mile oil change is free.

The light flashes a few times at startup between 4500 and 5000, then will come on steady at 5000 until reset at the oil change. That's all it's doing.
