A2 Lexus

So after owning the car for over 3 years now, I am kinda used to hearing the noise and it does not bother me as much. You can hear and feel it a lot more in winter time for some reason. Specifically when it is cold. It is just sad that they have not done anything to the design to fix this problem, even now?

Anyway, best of luck to you, and please let me know if you get anywhere with this issue.

Interesting what you said about it getting worse in the cold weather. We had a pretty mild early winter, and I only started noticing the noise after it got pretty cold out. Not sure what to make of that, but it's interesting.

Which tires did your car come with? Mine have the Dunlops, which I find to be horrible tires in general. I'm wondering if a tire change might help.

I'm having my first unresolved problem with my 2006 GX470 and am wondering if there are any others who have had this problem.

The car has developed a droning sound which starts becoming audible at around 60 mph and becomes unbearably loud at 70-75 mph. People driving with me have heard it and asked what is wrong with the car.

I had the car in for the driveshaft recall and drove around with the technician who confirmed the noise. He said he has had it on a few other cars. When I went to pick up the car, the service advisor acknowledged the problem, but said that there is no fix from Lexus. It shows on the work order as "normal condition". The car has only 9,000 miles and the noise is apparent on all road surfaces, so I don't think it is the tires, nor did the service tech.

I put in a call today to Lexus customer service and am waiting for a call back. Hoping you folks can give me some ammo.

Does Bluetooth work only with the cell phones listed on the Lexus site? I have a Sprint Samsung A900 and it's not listed.

I have a 2006 GX and was unable to get either my Sprint A900 or Palm 650 to pair with the car. My wife's Verizon Razr works, but won't upload the phonebook. I hate bluetooth!

I am about to buy my GX and have the following questions (I have looked all over the Forum and have found some comments, but need some reassurance I guess..):

1. Rear Entertainment System: I want this since I have kids. Will I regret not getting this option and going with an Invision/Audiovox system later on ? - I guess I am looking for experiences... one of the local dealership told me that they have been installing the Invision system in some 03's and that it works very well (but it costs $2,400)... and one kid could be watching a video while the other plays a game, etc.

Just a thought, but you may want to consider portable DVD players.

In my last SUV I was forced to buy the rear entertainment because it was the only way I could get NAV. We only let the kids use it on long trips, so it got used around 6 or 7 times. Not a very good investment!.

With the GX, we decided to skip the rear entertainment system and get a portable DVD player with a strap thingy that hooks onto the two front seats and suspends between them. At around $300 it was a great solution and saved a lot of money. Heck, you could buy 8 of them for the cost of your build in system! Also, they can be used outside the car. I guess if your kids are really little, and/or will watch a lot, the built in system would be easier to deal with.

A2 Lexus, unfortunately that is some early signs of the clunk. When was ur vehicle manufactured (on the sticker, on the driver's door jam) so we may have reference to other 06 GX470 owners. Thank You.

Boy - sure hope you are wrong. This is my first Lexus. I usually drive German but my wife really liked the GX. Since it will primarily be her car (and the "family car" for trips) I let her overrule my choice :chairshot: .

I have had incredibly good luck with Audi and BMW and expected the Lexus to be an even better ownership experience. With only 400 miles on the car things are not looking too good.

Build date was 5/06 per the sticker on the door.

As i have mentioned many times in old threads about this, you can RECREATE the clunk yourself. Simply, put the car in drive, leave your foot on the brakes, and either raise or lower the air suspension. Somehow, sometime, the clunk will come up, and may come up a few times. TRy that. I tried it after the new TSB, and so far, haven't recreated the clunk yet.

Well I tried this and noticed nothing unusual. I just took delivery two weeks ago and am hopeful that Lexus fixed the problem by the time my car got built.

The thing I have been feeling (and others may as well) is a very minor "bump" feel about 10-30 seconds after stopping at a light. Feels to me like the transmission is downshifting to 1st gear once it realizes I have stopped. At least I hope that is what it is

Prior to my posting, I did do search & read the threads ( same as you suggested....)

I guess, to me "clunk" & "lurch forward" sounded more 'harsh' than what I sense: but does seem to fit the 'general description'.

I too have a brand spanking new 2006. I know exactly what you are talking about and also am not sure if this is the infamous "clunk" everyone is concerned about. What I have read from the links provided above sounds much more ominous than the rather mild downshift feel that I notice. I assumed that it was just the transmission shifting down to first after a stop.

I actually feel a very similar thing on my 2007 BMW 530xi after a stop, and assumed it also was a transmission downshift.

Not sure what to think at this point, but I'll definitely keep an eye out for the "problem" getting worse.
