  1. I placed an order for 10 oil filter kits today. The dealer wanted $8.08 plus tax, I got them for $4.33 each and no tax.

Part number for the AWD filter kit is 04152-YZZA2

Should look similar to this filter kit:

where did you order the filter kits from?

    e.a.

I Think it should be Park Place Lexus in San Antonio Texas. I just order the oil filter 4.33 each. However, you still need to pay for the shipping. I pay less than 11 for the shipping. That means you better order some more oil filter to lower down the shipping cost for each filter.

  2. my mother purchased a 07 GS300 after having cadillac devilles for a number of years. the GS300 has the Dunlop run flats and the ride is rough. she loves the car but hates the ride. i have been reading the forum posts and it appears that replaceing the run flats with traditional tires will improve the ride. my mother is not concerned about performance at high speeds. which brand of tire will give the best improvement in ride. would appreciate suggestions.

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 17" is my choice. I am on the second set of this tire. Remember to air up your tire to at least 35 psi.

  3. Hello.

I'm wondering if anyone has had the same problem with their 2002 RX300 wheel jack!

I used mine once to change a flat tire on level ground and placed it properly on level ground.

It twisted! It twisted and lucky for me another jack type of jack was available to lift the vehicle back up enough to remove the twisted mess.

Has anyone had this problem before ?

I dropped a line at Lexus USA and no replies!

I need to replace it but dealers want over $120 for one, That much for a simple car jack ?

Has anyone got a used spare one that will suit my RX300 ? I'll buy it off you.

    Thanks.

I had the similar situation for couple of times by bending the wheel jack while using it. Later on I realize that the wheel must be secured before using the wheel jack. It will prevent your car from rolling off the jack.

  4. The transmission shop gives a one year or 12,000 mile warranty. The technician only told me the ATF they used "Exceed" Toyota specification or requirement. Do I still need to flush the ATF again? The shifting between gears was not smooth for the first three weeks. It seems the ECM will self adjust by itself and the shifting is getting better and better.

The ATF level on the dipstick was way too high for the first two weeks. That is why the shifing was so rough. I went back to the shop to flush out a little bit. IThe ATF is still about an inch higher than "HOT" level when the engine is hot. Does anyone think I should go back to the shop and flush again in order to meet factory standard?

  5. Mike, could you let us know the name of the shop that you went? I need a new tranny as well. My tranny died yesterday.

    What Year? How Many Miles??

2000 with 160K on the odometer.

I pick up my car from the transmission shop today. Both clutch and transmission were repaired.

It seems the transmission is not as smooth as it was.

What shop did you end up using and what did you think of them? Did they do a trans rebuild or was it a repair?

Lee Myles. It was a repair. The gear shift in between first three gears seems a bit rough, especially 1st and 2nd gears.

I drove my car to the shop during last week's snow storm here in New Jersey. There were only 1st and 2nd gears working partially. It is my first experience to repair transmission. I will go back to Lee Myles to check if this is normal.

  7. I have my car back a week now from the trans shop so I thought I would report my experience. Final cost was $3400 to have my trans rebuilt by a single shop independent in Denville, NJ. Warranty is 2 years 24,000 miles. It required all the parts in the standard rebuild kit plus they had to source some gears from Lexus. The trans worked fine from the minute I picked it up. No learning time, shifted like it always has before failure. The shop uses Mobil 1 full synthetic trans fluid and a felt filter (yes felt). They use this combo in all the failing Lexus transmissions and have excellent success. I guess time will tell.

  8. My 06 GS300 Mark Levinson DVD can not show picture mode after my scheduled service. The picture button on the touch screen was disabled. The “DVD Hint!" screen is also missing when the car is in park. One other issue is the message button on the radio screen was disabled too.

While watching the DVD, I could only hear the sound. The DVD now works like it is playing the CD.

During my last scheduled service, dealer found my two front brakes were worn, it needed to be replaced. Today when I try to watch DVD movie, the "DVD Hint!" screen did not pop up. While Playing DVD, no picture was shown. The dealer's service technician even told me:” This is the first time that someone told him the Lexus audio system could watch DVD.".

Does anyone know how to reset this issue?

    Thanks in advance.

  9. My dealer told me that I need to replace all four struts and mounts. The quote was $2.5K.

The only part available at the Tire rack is KYB GR-2 Strut. When I read the user's review, some states the ride is too firm compare to the origin ride. This is my wife's car. I don't want to make her complaint on these stiffer struts.

Any advice where I could replace the struts and mounts other than Lexus?

The car has 138K mile on it. Aside from the struts issue, the car runs perfectly.

    Thanks,

    Richard

  10. Does any one have engine knocking on your GS? The knocking is much lighter than some diesel engine. I heard the knocking sound when the engine was cold. After driving for 10 minutes, the knocking sound reduced, but still can hear the knocking with radio off. The owner’s manual mentioned that the engine knocking is normal when engine is cold. It should go away after a while.

Will that be a problem in the future?

    Richard

My dad has the 350 and i noticed that on his as well. i dont like it.. my 430 however does not knock like that.

I don't like the sound. It makes me feel that I am driving a car with diesel engine...

  12. Hi All, I am new here. Just pick up my new 2007 Lexus GS 300. The cruise control on the car is not holding steady. I set the cruise at 55. It can go as high as 58 before backing off to 55. Sometimes it can slow down to 53 before picking back up to 55. Am I having a problem unique to my car? Can it be adjusted by the dealer? I had a Volvo V70 and a Lexus RX300 before, neither of these cars had a problem like this. I used to be able to set the car to cruise at a certain speed and it pretty much hold that speed all the time without a noticeable drop off or cruising in excess of the set speed. Thank you for your help.

While you go down hill, the car will add speed of its own, the cruse control will active and slow down your car to your preset 55 mph. When you go uphill, the car will slow down, and than add the speed to meet your reset. But, if you are not driving up and down the hill, than you might want to check the dealer to see if that is normal.

  13. So, on my brand new 07 GS350 with under 600 miles, the right rear door will not open from the inside or outside. If I hit the unlock button on the key fob consitently 5-6 times, it will finally unlock the door, but as soon as I shut the door, even with it unlocked, it will not open from until I hit the unlock button a bunch of times again.

I guess It's going to the dealer already....

Check your child safety lock first. Make sure it is switch to unlock position before you go to the dealer. It could be touched by someone unintentionally.

  14. I have an '06 GS 300 with a fickle tire pressure sensor. It reads low tire pressure even though the pressure has been to set to 33psi x 4, checked and double-checked. I reduced all tires to 10psi and then refilled to see if that would reset, to no avail. I suspect a bad sensor. Does anyone know where these sensors reside? (in valve stems, axle, etc?). Short of going to the dealer, any other suggestions?

    Appreciated.

There are two switches. One is reset switch locate on the drive side below your steering wheel; the other is the sensor selection locate on the passenger side under glove box closed to the center council.

The reset switch is every time when you change your tire pressure, you need to reset the sensor. As for the sensor selecting switch is while you have two sets of tires and they all equipped with sensors. You can switch in between these sensors.

Read your user manual. You may refer to your owner’s manual for further detail.

  15. Just purchased an '07 GS350 and have a simple/stupid question. How do you lift up the windshield wipers without hitting the hood? Do I have to turn them on and then off before they stop at the bottom position? Thanks.

There is no need to turn on anything. Just park your car as usual. You can just hold the wiper arm and wiper connecting point and pull. The moving direction is the same as when you active your windshield wiper. (I pull it with two hands) The wiper arm will then shift couple of inches along windshield. Do not worry about breaking it. It was designed to let the owner to change your wiper.

One tip for replacing new wiper, buy the Bosch Icon instead of any other style. It is the easiest wiper blade replacement you are going to experience. (It is a bit expensive but easier for the replacement, you can purchase at "Advance Autoparts, their wiper is 25% off until end of November) If you go for other style of the wiper blade, you need to flip the wiper blade. That will end up scratching your windshield.

Read your user manual for more detail about how to "shift" your wiper. Just remember, the motion is not lift, it is shift. After you shift the wiper, you can lift your wiper blade without scratching the hood.

  16. I can't answer that question, but I would appreciate it if someone that has an '06 GS300 AWD would look in their owners manual and tell me what it says about the fuel requirements for this car, and is anything mentioned about using regular grade fuel? Thank you.

It says, "Premium unleaded gasoline with an Octane Rating of 91 (Research Octane Number 96) or higher required for optimum engine performance. However, if such premium type cannot be obtained, you may use unleaded gasoline with an Octane Rating as low as 87 (Research Octane Number 91).

"Use of unleaded fuel with an octaine number or rating lower than state above will cause persistent heavy knocking. If severe, this will lead to engine damage."

Didn't your friend's GS come with an owner's manual?

We all have the same user menu. My question is, what is the different between "Octane Rating 87" and "Research Octane Number 91"? What I need to know is, what kind of gasoline should GS300 user choose? 87 or 91?

  17. My 2000 LS400 came with 16" wheels and I stayed with the same size and bought 16" Mille Miglia Bellos with 225/60-16" Blizzaks from Tire Rack. The Bellos were the least expensive Mille Miglia wheel sold by Tire Rack and they looked especially good on my LS. As you probably noticed, 18" Blizzaks in your OEM '06 LS430 size cost a lot more than the 17" Blizzaks in the '06 GS300 size. And 18" wheels seem to cost more than 17" wheels.

I think you would be fine with the 17" GS300 wheels you found and Blizzaks in the '06 GS300 tire size -- especially with as much snow as Chicago can get. The two wheel/tire size combinations you mentioned (17" & 18") have almost exactly the same circumference so there would be no noticable speedometer accuracy change. And, you might appreciate the extra cushion that the larger section height of the 17" tires will provide when you hit one of Chicago's winter craters -- I mean potholes. LOL

One more point: If you are an agressive driver, you have to be very careful to moderate your driving style when using snow tires -- I wouldn't recommend doing any four wheel drifts on snow tires! Besides, agressive driving on snow tires can especially reduce tire life -- maybe yours too, LOL.

Way down south here in Kansas City, I use snow tires from the weekend before Thanksgiving until the first day of Spring when I take off the snow tires and start having fun again. By moderating my driving style and using the snow tires only about four months each year, I can usually get four winters (20,000 total miles) out of a set of snow tires.

I tried Dunlop Winter Sports on my car. It works on my previous ride Audi A6.

  18. Update:

Just put on a set of Cooper Zeon A/S 225/50-17 tires today. Price is a lot better and the tire looks fine although it apprears to be a bit wider across the tread. It has a tread wear of 400 where the stock Dunlop has a 360. So far driving seems to be oK with no issues.

Could you post your new tire experience for reference?

  19. I am not sure if it is normal when I parked the car with foot brake, the rear spring make noise when you get in or out of the vehicle.

    Richard

:whistles: Took my car to the dealer. It seems the foot brake needs to be adjust. This problem was solve after service. However, the noice came right back after couple of months. I am not sure what went wrong with the foot brake.

    Does anyone has similar problem?

  20. It seems warm weather improved the ride comfort. Especially when the temperature is higher than 100 F. I notice stiffer ride just two days ago when the temperature drop down to 75 F. This will explain why the OE Dunlop tire was so smooth when I first purchase GS in last August. Temperature is 100 plus everyday.
