  1. Well, I should have started reading this forum much, much earlier....unfortunately, my tranny went out around 90K miles...no warranty of course and it cost me $7K to get it fixed at AAMCO. Lexus was going to charge $8-$10K !!!

I still can't believe that a $40K car's tranny isn't covered for at least 100K miles!!!! Where do I sign up to get some recourse!!!

    -Bitter...party of one!

  2. I have a '99 RX300 with 95K miles on it. I haven't had any problems with the car until last month when my transmission went out!!!! I was first quoted $7500 from a Lexus dealer and after I picked myself off the floor, I had the car towed to a AAMCO.

Apparently, there seems to be a shortage of 99 RX300 transmissions, because Lexus was even backordered! I got a rebuilt one for $5800.....OUCH!

  3. My 99 Rx300's transmission also went out last week with only 95,000 miles on it!

Lexus took one look at it and said $5800 for the parts $1700 for the labor! I said

    forget you!!!

Brought it to an AAMCO dealer and they are going to take it apart to see what

really is the problem. They think it is a torque converter problem, but won't know

until they take it apart today. Their estimate comes in under $4000, BTW...

    Anyone else having this problem????

What gives? You spend that much for a car and would expect more....

  4. I wish I purchased that extended warranty!

My 99 RX300 with 95,000 miles just lost its tranny! Lexus' quote to fix the problem was going to cost me $7,800!!! After I picked

myself off the ground, I got the car towed to an AAMCO dealer. The AAMCO dealer thinks

it is a torque converter problem, but will eventually cost me around $3,600 instead.

But, 20/20 hindsight, who would have thought my tranny would have gotten only 95,000 miles...
