  1. OK, i see the posts about the pcv valve and replacing would help with idling and mpg's...but I CANNOT find where it is at. Or maybe it is there but underneath a hose? I have looked at the factory service manuals for the 97 & 01 trying to locate it, but I am totally clueless where it is at...I have looked all day. Someone help me please?

I have been getting between 18 - 20 mpgs lately, premium gas, mostly city during the weekday and highway on the weekend (I drive like a banshee). I was trying to increase it a little, and I have been getting some rough idleing.

Also - does anyone know if you can program the locks to automatically lock like the newer models?

    thanks in advance

  2. Hello all!

2000 ES Platinum. I need to know what type of screws can I use to keep the cover to the engine one? I know that the Lexus symbol snaps down in place, but there are 3 holes where, I guess, screws are suppose to go. (I took the car for the engine warranty repair - and never realized that they didn't put the screws on) So when I drive, I think air gets up in the engine and rattles the cover. Any helps would be great! BTW, with the engine warranty work, it still sludges, when I removed the cover there was lots of sludge on the outside of the engine... :( I love my lexie it has 193k miles on it!

    Thanks everyone!

  3. My 1999 ES300 recently had the engine rebuilt due to the sludge problem. Before the rebuild no check engine codes were present. After the rebuild, the check engine light came on within 30 miles of service. I brought it back to the dealer and the dealer pulled these 2 codes P1133 and P1153 (Air/Fuel Bank 1 and 2 Sensor 1 malfuntions). They said the 2 Air/Fuel sensors needed to be replace. I find that hard to believe that these sensors coincidently went bad just after the rebuild. The dealer will not replace them for free or do any further diagnosis. I think they did not put something back together properly or damaged something in the rebuild. Does anyone know how I determine what the real cause of the problem is? Do you have any recommendations of reputable shops in the Alpharetta, GA area that I could take it to that would be able to determine the real cause of the problem?

My car too had issues after my engine was rebuilt. Was it at the Peachtree Ind location? Becuause that is where I went and they wanted to charge me to check the engine again. My car was running well before they went and did the warranty work, now it consumes tons of oil...I hope you can get it resolved. I tried taking it to all of the dealerships to tell them that when I got my warranty work done, it wasn't done properly...but nothing so far.

  4. Hi,

2000 es 178k on it...when I go in reverse, and slow down/stop, it sounds like I'm running over something or something is rolling around in the trunk. There's nothing back there, it's like a loud bump. I had a kind of similar issue when turning, it made a loud clicking/bumping sound. Took the car in and my mechanic said the rack and pinion was loose and fixed it.

2nd prob: starting issue. When I start up my car, it makes the car starting sound (I'm a girl) but it sounds very weak. It won't start up if I drive around, and stop for a few minutes, like getting gas/going to store, ect. But if I wait a few more minutes, it'll start up. The other day it wouldn't start but I got a jump and it was fine. BTW, all my lights come on/radio, ect. My BF checked the battery with something he has in the garage and said the battery was fine and the alternator was fine...

help me! Thanks! I think it's about time to retire my dear Crystal but I don't want to!!

  5. I have a 2000 ES. It has 166k miles on it. I just got an engine flush to help clean out the sludge/gelling in the engine. (I wanted to try the method that was posted but I am a girl and it seem to difficult - so I let someone else do it). Well, now, when I accellarate, when I slam it, the engine makes an low revving sound. It sounds like my old 88' camary. It only occurs when the RPM is above 2500 though. And only if I really hit it. Normal accellaration is normal sounding. They put 5w30 synthetic back into the car afterwards. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I hope they didn't jack up my car.

BTW, I did take my car in and had Lexus fix the recall, but it only made my engine worse. More fuel and oil consumption, that's why I thought the engine flush would be a good idea. Thanks everyone!

  6. I have a 2000 ES also and had a question:

I had the warranty service done on my car for the sludge and now I go through oil ALL THE TIME. There is no smoke coming out of the tail pipe and none in the driveway. Any advice to find out where the oil is disappearing too? I've had Lexus look at it but they won't warranty the work they previously had done because it's been over a year...and now I am constantly having to put oil in, about once a month...and it is almost completely empty (several quarts at a time). Help me!?
