  1. 2006 400h. the abs light came on...is there a way to get diagnostic info about the defective component without specialized tools (that dealers have)? e.g., in acura one can get info by shorting two pins in a service connector; the abs light flashes and provides a 2-digit code.

    thanks

no, no work done on brakes. the car has only 36K miles.

the strange thing is that the light came on when the car was stand-still as was stopped at a traffic light.

Just curious, have you had a brake job done recently where you or the mechanic tried to bleed the brakes? You can't bleed the brakes on the hybrid the same way you can with a conventional vehicle.

  3. just got an rx350 (2007)...paired my cell , works ok, but the navi system automatically answers the phone as soon a call comes in. i tried to disable that in RX's phones setting- there is an "auto answer" button, there is a line in the button that goes on off if you touch it but the results are the same-- auto answer is always on (note: auto answer is off in the phone, a moto v3m)

any one how to disable the auto answer function??

    thanks

    :(

  4. 1/3 car under water...wow, that over 2+ feet...i don't think i'll ever risk that. but looks like water upto center of the wheel may be ok.

    thanks

The mechanics in Lexus where i take my car for service, when i asked them this question, told me that they have personally tried the RX400h in a shallow river with no problem during the "acceptance tests" they do for SUVs. I guess there was more water than what you described since they had 1/3 of the car in the water...

What they said I should avoid, is washing the car underneath with high pressured water (eg http://www.karcher-usa.com/) This could bring water in to the motor cable harness and harm the electric motor.

My advice, whenever you can avoid bringing it to the limits do it ;O)

  5. recently, after a heavy downpour, i came to a low point in the road where my guess is there was at least a foot-deep standing water... in my rx300, I would not hesitate to go through this much water but with the hybrid, i backed off and turned around due to the fear of getting electric motors in water.

any one has any experience of going through water or any guidance on how deep much (deep) water the Rx400h can handle (assume very slow driving)???

  6. 7 month old 400h- the display (all except navigation) has gone bad. the energy is the worst, it appears that the privious images are not being cleared fully as new info is added so you see all colors and multiple superimposed arrows.

one-of-a-king glitch or anyone else had this problem?:cries:

On the original ~ older MFDisplay ('04 prius) there were a good percentage of recalls, and our Prius was one of the recalls. Our 400h has the older 'style' display similar (but obviously not exactly the same) to our '06 400h, while the newer hybrids (prius, camery, etc) have a newer/better resolution MFD. Not sure if the '07s have the newer MFD's or not, but since you say YOURS is 7mo old, it must be the 06 ... right? Heck, it least it's under warranty! They cost well over a grand, even for a rebuilt one.

yes this is a 2006 and that too an early one...won't be surprized if the displa has an older chip/wiring issue.

Hopefully the dealer should know what to without giving me a run-around - it is well under warranty.

    thanks

  7. if you do a quick search, on the rx330 forum, or this one, you can find it instantly, i dont know how to do it off hand for the newer gen. nav

Thanks....I found it ..I'll try it.

There is a guy over sea's that was able to get into the system and run his camera in forward position. I tried it the same way he did and was unable to. Seems all we can do in the USA is over ride the system so we can enter the Nav screen in motion, but thats it.

Barefoot Bob..... I didn't know there is way to overrided the nav to enter commands (assuming destiantion, addresses) while in motion :) . Can you please let me know where to find the info- another post , web , etc.?

    Thanks.

Go to the menu screen, the touch volume, then touch the speeker in the left top corner of your screen. Then touch the bottom left corner of your screen(I know there is nothing there, just touch there anyway) Then the top again and the bottom one more time. Now a whole new screen will come up. Touch and hold overide till you hear a beep(about 5 seconds) and you are in. You have to do this every time you start up if you want to overide the system.

    Hope this helps, Bob

Wow, sounds tricky but I'll it. Seems similar to the one for RX300 that rx300driver pointed me too (not surprised). Having to enter it every time is no fun.

    Thanks for the info.

  9. i never thought that it was good to put the car through an auto car washer. THose things are rough, and i can imagine what it can do to some cars. its just a bunch of cardboard flapping against your car. Ill admit, because it only costs 3 dollars, i have done it more than once, but i really try not to. lol

rx330driver...first i like your analogy to "cardbaods flapping" :) ....most car washes around here (northern nj) fit that description. however, there are one or two that are brush-less and use soft felt-like material.

i don't go to car washes from may thru nov either when it is warm enough. but in winter you have to make a choice: leave salt on the car or go thru a car wash. not a problem in your town but around here road salt/mud usually after a snow fall is not only an eye soar but potientially a corosion accelerator.

i have always wanted to move to ca... B)

  10. One more suggestion: a handy Lexus accessory is a tray insert for the luggage area -- it has a high enough lip to contain a reasonable amount of liquid spillage or leakage, so it's a reasonable insurance policy at $95 or so.

any problem taking this baby through a car wash? (other than, per the user manual, having to remove the antenna)

  11. We finally got the problem resolved! The leak was from the seal on the liftgate--some of you were right on with that diagnostic! The water ran down into the battery compartment--shorting out the hybrid computer and traction control and ruining all the batteries. The repair bill was estimated by the dealer at between $10-12 thousand! With the prior problems, they traded my vehicle for another RX 400h--straight trade. I am thrilled! I still have a hybrid and I am again happy with the Lexus dealer!

I should mention that this could be a significant problem with the car. If you have bodywork done on the liftgate--make sure they check for water leakage. This is a problem if you are carrying liquids in the hatch area, also--if they spill--the sensors are only about 1/8 of an inch off the floorboards, low enough to be impacted by a small amount of liquid. The danger is with things dripping/running down into the battery compartment--the lowest point in the car, where the computers are located and the batteries. You do not want to be facing this kind of bill without it being a dealer's fault! Thanks for everyone's comments and helpful suggestions.

tmanykidz..thanks for the update and glad you got a new(?) hyb....hope dealers around here are so nice.

The problem is scary...could it possibly happen while loading/unloading in moderate/heavy rain? Can a cup or two of liquid (leakage from a milk/juice carton) possibly cause this kind of troule??

  12. We had a heavy rainstorm in the area and my hybrid sat outside the garage during it. I drove less than a mile down the road on Sunday and got malfunction lights for my VCS (traction) and Hybrid system. I parked the car and left it until Lexus roadside assist could get there late that day. The car sat with a towing company on Sunday and was delivered to the dealer on Mon. at 3pm. The computers for both VCS and the hybrid/batteries are ruined due to water damage. Has anyone else had this problem? I never drove through standing water, just a heavy rain. This vehicle has had the rear lift gate replaced and they have pulled the fuel tank when the gauge was reading empty. (That problem was actually located on the dash assembly and it has been replaced. They have also replaced all four tires and the power steering computer. Do I have a lemon, or is anyone else seeing these problems?

No rocket science here but you do have an unusual amount of problems for a lexus. This is my third - never had much problem. The hybrid is only a month old so cannot compare.

But I'm very anxious to hear what explanation lexus/dealer have to offer! If the problems is fixed, please do post an update
