  1. I just want to say...

This kind of question should be ignored and removed from the forum. Spend $40k for a car, then try to save some bucks by putting 87 although the manual says "91". It just doesn't make any sense. I wonder how would someone make that kind of money (to afford the car) and be so ... slow about this... sign*

AND if you have to worry about the gas money, don't buy a luxury car. Bottom line: the car needs premium gasoline.

  2. 99 RX300, 115k

    CEL P0330: Knock Sensor

Other symtomp: Car would not shift to Overdrive (45mph at ~3k rpm)

I had all 2 knock sensors replaced at an independent shop for $500. This is probably a defect design because the sensors are placed in an awkward position that a lot of things had to be taken out.

PS: My mechanic first checked all the wiring and reset the light but no luck.

  3. I have Yoko Geolandar tires (around $100 each at Discount Tire). The ride is smooth and quiet though I don't know if the Michelins are more quiet but these are better than the stock tires for sure.

I have put 22k miles on them and there is just little tread wear. You may want to check out www.tirerack.com. They have reviews for just about everything.

  4. I have 99 RX300 2WD and average 22 (30% city, 70% highway @ 65-70) using Shell Premium. With the roof rack off, the number can go up to 23mpg (usually 22.5). Of course AWDs consume more gas.

I can tell the car pulls a little stronger (with less hesitation) when I use premium gas. I think it's worth paying extra $3 every fill-up.

The RX300 is a heavy and slow car, it takes longer to get from 0 to 30mph (e.g. city driving). So even though you think you have a light foot, you may not. To maximize the mpg with the RX, you'll have to "learn" how to drive the car using its existing momentum. I learned this habit by turning the trip info to current mpg and trying to adjust my foot so that the mpg is maximized.

I am a 22 year old male. When I drive this car, I am a totally different driver. And when I drive my Accord, I am back to "fun" mode. I'd love to own a RX350 though! That engine owns!
