  1. why would you let someone replace the system when you don't know what is wrong with it? you like giving money away?

Read the ABS code, it will tell you the problem. Fix the problem. Typically it's just something cheap like a wheel speed sensor needing replacing, or has been knocked out of alignment.

I've been quoted 350 by toyota to fix my speed sensor. If i buy the part for 190, can I install it myself?!?

    Thanks in advance

I would suggest removing/cleaning/re-adjusting the speed sensor gap first. Metal filings, "fines" covering the sensor tip can be a problem as would poor electrical connections.

    The sensor itself rarely fails.

any tips to remove this wheel sensor

  2. hello, i tried to clean it, but couldnt even remove it! What tool is best to remove it? any tips!

  4. You Must Need Some Motivation, Get the LEXUS

    Hi Guys,

Man am I fickle. I have been looking around the internet for a car for some time now. I am not going to get it until about Jan or Feb as my current SAAB lease is not due until March. Originally I started my search looking at an ES 330. I liked the car a lot but it lacked some of the newer modern electronics and I am one of the electronic geeks. I like my toys. So then, I decided I would look at an AVALON Limited. It had a lot more stuff then the lex. Automatic wipers, touchless and keyless entry, a/c seats, auto sun shade etc etc. The list really does go on and on and that car is awsome except I was only going to consider the limited model. I soon found out that the limited inventory is somewhat scarce, and the ones that I found were like $29,000. So then my next quest was for a brand new Altima 4 cylinder, loaded with all the options including bluetooth nav, rear back up camera, start button ignition, etc. Nice car also but WOW the thing is expensive. $28 to $29k. In my travels I also looked at Camry, Lexus GS series, and even the ES series, as well as maximas, and some infinities. I may change my mind again but right now it seem as if the lex es 330 is my best buy. I am thinking I can get a loaded es 330 with navigation and about $45,000 miles for about $20,000 for a 2004 model. You agree???

I figure compared with the Nissan- The lexus us $9,000 cheaper, bigger engine = more pickup, probably better reliability. Downside- much less toys. but hey $9k is $9k. In addition, I could be wrong but there is something to be said for driving a Lexus vs a Nissan, even if the Lexus is a few years old.

    Thoughts???

P.S. I could change my mind again before I am ready to push the button on this.

  5. Did you ever find out the solution for this? I have the same exact scenario with my '99 and have not been able to solve the problem.

    Thanks in advance-

Everyone is correct, the ABS sensor needs to be pressed out and replaced. Its out of wack!!! Toyota quoted me 600 bucks after an 89 buck diagnostic fee, i chose to keep driving it and get it fixed later, its now 7 months later, still driving with the lights on!!

  6. That wont work, i tried to use Line-Out Converters (LOC) but was unable to get it to work! Best thing to do is switch stereos and use a harness! with Line Out Jacks for the Amp. The factory amp does not have enuf wattage to push anything but the factory speakers, they are finely tuned.

  7. I hadnt replaced it yet! I hear that I cant install it myself even if i buy one! I hear that it has to be pressed out of the Hub! Let me know if you know something i dont, Dealer quoted me 450 dollars

I read it, it doesnt address the ABS sensor, i also did a search, couldnt find anything! Thanks

    Hello,

How do i change the abs sensor, i didnt see a DIY in the search!? Is this a dealer only part or could i change it!? Where can i get one, i couldnt find it on Rockauto.com, help please!!

Did you get a new sensor?? I need one but I do not want to pay $200+ for it!! May go to a junk yard.

  8. Sorry im just going thru 2 quarts a day, and tearing up the parking lot

    All,

Do i need a torque wrench or something, cause i tightened as tight as i could, didnt want to strip the bolt!?

any comment will be greatly appreciated

i need ed to drain the dirty fluid, on my 97 es300 so i removed a screw with a hose on it to fix it

, yes the fluid came running out of the pump and the resevoir, but now no matter how hard i tighnten this #4 screw, it leaks from that screw, ive tried 2 washers and everything. Thanks for any advice!

Easy trigger, Someone will post with the info you seek. Sometimes it takes a little while to get a response. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showuser=744 should be able to help you out on this matter.

  11. Hello All,

I have a 97 es300 and i have the front valve cover gasket off, im thinking about tackling the rear but I wanna know if i put the front back on today, and attempt the back tomorrow will i have to take the front off again?! Thanks in advance!?

another question, if I may, LOL, the spark plug rings,

they dont fit in the holes of the valve cover! Do iwrap them around the spark plug housings or do I keep trying to pry them into the valve cover? does the opening of the rings face up or down?!

  12. i have a 97 es300 , i replaced the power steering belt, by going through the wheel well. i took a chance by lossening up a visible screw, it worked and slid relieving the tension.. i replaced yhe belt but cant get that screw to move again! was that the power steering thingy i moved, i pressed and pulled at everything. should i just tighten the screw "as is"? the belt seems tight, with little slack. Quick responses will be greatly appeciated, car is still apart, and i have curch tomorrow, the work monday, LOL. E-Z fix gone wrong! thanx in advance

supposedly im on my back beneath the hub, head is towards the front of the car with a long object, with this leverage scenario, would i be pushing or pulling? or do i do it the other way, im going to do it at the crack of dawn! Thanks for responding so quickly, may god bless u!! meanig do i push it towards the bak of vehicle, or pull it towards the front?

    Hello Room,

I have a 97 es300 and i let my friend help me replace the rear struts according to the DIY directions i found on this site. Everything went well, until I went to test drive it! The ABS light came on :cries: , and the trac off light started blinking. :censored: , I feel so bad, I hurt my baby. Could somebody please tell me what i did wrong or what the problem could be? I took it to autozone and used the OBDII scanner , which told me no faults detected!! Please let me know what I may have done wrong!?! Thanks in advanced!!

  17. Wow, I 've only changed 20 , and I ve never had a problem with the threads! You said the dealers gave up?! Replace the whole manifold, thats crazy!! Good Luck

just put it over the wire and O2 sensor and twist that dman thing towards the passenger wheel (right), wont need to rethread if it aint stripped after u done with it- easy job "righty tighty, lefty loosey."

    thanks !!

i am now scared to do it :[

did buy the socket today, is rethreading really hard?

i guess the 40 or 50 of these i've changed so far, on all toyota v6 engines, were just put in extra tight.

stripped, imo, is a different deal. stripped to me, means that someone cross-threaded the part in. this isn't the case here. this is a case of a part being threaded in for a long time, in a hot environment, causing the 2 parts to slightly "bond" together. when this happens its inevitable that it will pull some threads out with it.

    another piece of advice...

since its bad and you're changing it anyway, just cut the wire and put a regular 1/2 inch drive impact socket on it. make sure to use an impact socket because a regular "chrome" socket might crack and that would really hurt. as for rethreading it, you can buy a re-threader from Lisle (sp?) tools. i've also had very good luck using a pipe threader, just make sure you get the right size. most do take part of the threads out with them.

i should add that i've successfully replaced many of these after the local toyota and lexus dealers gave up. they want to replace the entire exhaust manifold, which is very expensive. i've yet to have to replace a manifold.

    good luck.

  18. those things arent changed rarely! Get on back under the car, Face up, grip it and turn that that screw, if u can try the liquid wrench, if u can tget it , u will have to pay someone! I try and learned to do things myself , if i cant do it, pay someone else! Pull i t right with all your might, or else pay the money for this simple job. good luck!!

yea have been trying that, it won't go.

I am going to try steviej's advice about liquid wrench tomorrow and maybe get a breaker bar.

I am going to take pictures !! and post them (if i am sucessful), so as to help out anyone in future.

    Thanks for help.
