  1. mrcubes2u, post some pictures Bro. I am going to upgrade to HID's and trying to get an idea of what HID's to go with. 4000K 6000K or 8000K ?

I would love to take some photos, unfortunately I recently detroyed the LCD on my digi-cam. I will try and take some in the near future though. 4K will be the brightest, and 8K will be the purplest. I would suggest not going above the 6600 as mine are just the right amount of purple, and are just on the edge of not being bright enough. Hope that helps.

    HOOAH devil dog!!

  2. True, He told me they retail for $455. so $355 is a good price. I have stock hid bulb now also hid foglights. Since my foglights are much brighter than headlights that's why I'm also changing the headlight bulbs to something better. If I leave the orignal ballast with the new bulb or changing the ballast and the new bulb would they both look the same. Meaning brighter with old ballast or same? Thanks

I don't imagine that aftermarket ballasts would have much to do with the quality of the light. I think is has everything to do with the bulbs. If you are trying to be brighter to compensate for the foglights, you may want to stay with the stock bulbs. My understanding is that the higher the kelvin number on the bulbs the less light they output. Stock bulbs are 4300K, and the PIAA's are 6600K therfore they are not as bright, but their color temperature is more desirable (less yellow and more blue). Are your HID fogs stock? Are they yellow like most other GS foglights are?

  3. I just replaced my HID bulbs on my 99 GS400 with OEM HID's. I bought the PIAA D2S 6600K bulbs because the place I bought the bulbs did not have D2R's, and it seems to me by looking at the two bulbs side by side that the D2S would be better because they lack the reflective coating on the top of the bulb.

Anyway, I had to cut a notch in the plastic on the base of the bulb so they would fit in my housing, but this was very easy. The light looks great, it is slightly bluer than OEM, but it is not at all purple or ricey. One concern I had about the lack of the coating on the bulb was glare for oncoming drivers but I drove all over tonight without anyone flashing their brights at me.

All in all i think the PIAA bulbs are well worth it since I paid $300 for the pair, and the dealership wanted $370 for one, especially since there is a big improvement in light quality.

  4. Don't forget to adjust your trunk tension after adding the spoiler. The additional weight from the spoiler has to be counter balanced.

    Good luck!

My trunk closes very hard, and is somewhat heavy (my daughter has a hard time lifting it), and I have the spoiler on my car. I wonder if my trunk is not balanced properly. How do I check this, and/or adjust it?

    Thanks.

  5. After driving my 04 RX for over two years, I just noticed for the first time that there were moisture condensation inside my adaptive headlights. The dealer replaced both of them and had the data dots put on while at it. Absolutely no charge!

    What are "data dots"??

  6. I had one light that would work sporadically.one time it would come on next time it wouldn't. this went on for quite a while, until it finally would not come on at all. it turned out to be the bulb. I replaced it myself using directions found on this forum. I wanted to stay with the oem lighting so I found a bulb from advanced auto parts.price was 144.00 lexus dealer wanted over 300.00 bulb is D2R 35w

Do you remember where the instructions were found for changing the bulb? Is advanced auto parts online or local?

    Thanks

  7. My driver side HID light goes purple right after it is turned on, and it is frequently just turning off. I know this could be either the bulb or the balast, but what is the most common cause?

I know switching the bulbs would tell me, but getting the bulbs out and back in is an extreme PITA (I might be doing this all wrong, maybe someone can give a brief description on how to swap bulbs). Also the ballasts that I have seen online do not appear to be model specific, so if I buy a ballast would it be plug and play?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.
