  1. Hi! I need to replace my trunk struts, but have been unable to locate a non-lexus strut to use. (Lexus struts = approx $375)..This is for the 02 SC430, I know other Lexus owners have been able to find other alternative to the Lexus part, but I can't seem to locate it for the SC430...

Any help would be most appreciated.

  2.

My thanks to Belle and Daveoman for their posts. Between Belle, Daveoman and Antenna masts r us directions, accessing the antenna motor was painless. Everything is so well engineered. The whole experience was fun, actually, after I got over the initial fear of taking the whole trunk apart. My husband was a fantastic help, putting up with me the whole time. We made a good team! So, go for it, you'll see it's not that difficult.

    Aloha!

  3. Hi Belle:

Thank you for your post. I will give it a shot--In daylight!

    Aloha, Hawaiilex

My antenna mast is broken and the plastic part is coiled inside the motor. How do I access the motor to remove it?? (and I thought this would be easy...) Thanks for any input!

    Hi Rich:

I did buy the mast assembly, but when I disconnected the antenna, the plastic coil part is separated from the antenna. Don't I need to retrieve the coiled plastic from the motor first?

If the plastic gear coil is broken, you will need to access the motor to remove the broken portion before installing a new mast.

Here is a link to the instructions: http://www.antennamastsrus.com/instructions.htm

The original question still remains, How do you access the motor??

PS I found the replacement mast on E-bay for about $18 but haven't installed it yet

Can anyone offer any advise about removing and replacing the trunk panels to access the motor?????

Thanks, but yes, the original question, how do you access the motor???

  5. I've had my 2002 for three years now. It's got 49k miles on it and had 12,000 on it when I bought it. Love, love, love the car. I have the runflats on, too. Things here and there (speakers needed replacing, 02 sensors)...but overall it is fantastic. Yes, every now and then it rattles, big deal. Turn the music up, put the top down and a smile on your face---life is good.

  6. Hi Kev1: Both of my bottom speakers went bad. I took it to the dealer. Had them do it. The speakers were expensive, and the labor didn't add up to that much, so that's the route I went. I went to some car audio places, but they couldn't get the speakers. Had to come from Lexus. Good Luck.

  7. This morning I saw a Dark Blue SC430-Interior: Saddle Leather Trim with Walnut Accent. I'm interested in buying a SC430, does anyone know which year Lexus first offered the Saddle Leather Trim with Walnut Accent? The combo of dark blue and saddle leather simply made me drool..

Hi Dreamweaver--My 2002 is an egyptian sand with saddle/walnut. In my opinion, the saddle/walnut is the nicest interior. What are you waiting for? Buy the SC430 and start cruising! :P

  8. First off, I've got to say I love the car. Yeah, it's got a few things here and there, but overall it's a blast! The latest is my two front speakers (mid-range) First the right-side developed a loud vibrating sound, had it replaced (had to pay for, out of warranty). Not a couple of days later the left one went. The dealer is being okay, giving somewhat of a discount, but I have to admit I'm surprised they went so quickly. Now, I don't know what the first user did, but even still... Okay, now on to the runflats. The car had the 050's on it when I bought it. I thought about putting non-run flats on, but decided to give the 060's a shot. Gotta say they are running very well. I put some heavy highway miles on, and it's a smooth ride. Of course I can't compare to non-runflats, but I'm extremely satisfied. We'll see how many miles I get. The car has 37k on it now, and I've kept up with the regular service at the dealer. Oh, yeah, the check engine light came on about 10k ago. It was the /02 sensors. While they were changing them out, one of the sensors stripped and fell into the exhaust manifold. They had the car a week and gave me a Lex SUV to drive in the meantime...anyway, it's all good. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff. I worked hard to buy the car (used) have had it two years and there ya go...
