  1. Ouch. I had an even dumber accident happen about a month ago when a neighbor crashed into my '93 Ford Probe (may it RIP) and totalled it as it was parked outside my house! They really need to ban the use of mobile phones in cars here in Illinois. On the other hand, the wreck allowed me to join the Lexus club.

    Well, all the hard work keeping my car in mint condition may have gone to waste.  I got hit by a taxi that ran a red.  I'm ok, save for some aches & pains.  Tough car, she is!  The Taxi, a newer Buick model had its front end smashed in about halfway up the hood.  *sigh*    Funny thing is, all my exterior lights (even the one hanging off the side) still worked, and the engine didn't shut off automatically.  My car has the AVS feature....I guess that's expensive to fix?  I just want my car back...

  2. This sounds like what happened to my car (same year and model). The culprit was a transmission part which sheared off somehow and got into the gearwork, wrecking the tranny. New tranny fixed the problem. :)

    This is weird.

    My ES300 is acting up:

    The car runs for 300 feet and slowly stops even when engaged in Drive. The engine would keep idling but the car would not move. After turning the engine off and restarting the car it would go forward for 200 -300 feet and stall.

    Can any one help diagnose the problem!

    I did check the transmission fluid level as suggested and the level is fine. The Kwik Car (Lube place) mechanic says: The transmission solenoids are bad! This will need to be checked and may cost anywhere from $1200 t0 $1500!

    I am confused and I am not sure is it worth it!!

  3. I have a similar problem with the antenna on my '93 ES300. It always goes up, but sometimes it needs a little "nudge" in order to go down. I think there's just a bit too much friction in the other segments for it to work reliably. There's one section that's stuck in the down position and absolutely will not budge, even with the antenna completely removed. I just ordered a replacement antenna from a guy on eBay for about $18. We'll see how it works when I get it.

    I searched before I posted. I'm not a rookie. I just thought my problem was a tad bit different. Do you search theses forums attempting to be an *BLEEP* to everyone. That's what it seems like. I take my car matters seriously. Either give advice trying to help the situation or keep it to yourself.

  4. Well, I finally worked up the nerve to take the key apart (I was afraid I was going to break it, but I finally figured out how it fits together). I noticed that it didn't have a battery in it at all (Maybe it fell out at some point? The screw is missing, too..... Hmmm). I went to my local Wal-Mart and picked up a couple of CR1216 batteries, popped one in, and now the key works fine. I've read that the key loses its programming after a long period of not having a working battery in it, but that appears to not be the case with me ES300. Anyway, thanks for the help! :)

    Those instructions are really meant for the 97s (at least that's what the FAQ says).  I tried following them, but to no avail.  I'm pretty sure it's a battery issue, anyway, since I was told that the remote was working and then suddenly stopped.  I've also been told that if the battery isn't replaced soon after it fails, the device will lose its memory and will have to be reprogrammed.  I guess the easiest way to fix it would be to swap the battery out and replace it with a new one, then try the instructions one more time, then head to a dealer.  Thanks for the help!

    This is what you mention in the FAQ's

    To reprogram new key fobs to your car here is the procedure

    this may work for 92-96 also but i don't know for sure to reprogram the key fob

    1) Driver door is open and unlocked, key is out the ignition.

    2) Key is inserted into the ignition and removed without turning.

    3) Using power lock, the door is locked and unlocked 5 times.

    4) the door is closed and then opened.

    5) Using power lock the door is closed and opened 5 times again.

    6) key is inserted in ignition turned to on position and then off, key is then removed.

    7) After the locks cycle,the lock and unlock button is held simultaneously for a second.

    8) Immediately after the lock button is held for 2 seconds.

    All I think arutha (welcome btw) B) is asking here is do we think it's a programming issue or just a new battery (unless I have missed it, is not covered in the FAQ's). From what was mentioned in his previous thread, I'm thinking it's battery related as it does not sound like reprogramming is the problem......just my opinion. B)

  6. I'm a Lexus newbie who just recently (or will, within the next day or so) purchase a '93 ES300 from a relative. I'm told that the keyless entry system does not work. What I have is a key with a little button on it, and pressing it doesn't open the door (I think the car might have also come with a keypad... not sure).

    Anyway, does anyone know to fix the key? Does it take a battery, or does it need to be reprogrammed?
