  1. Hi everyone,

I'm new to my used LX470 and new to the forum. I have a problem I hope you can help with. Not sure if this is the correct forum, but....

Like I said I'm new to this used LX470 that I got at auction. Love it! I had an LX before this one.

Anyway, I haven't driven it much 'cause I went out of town almost as soon as I bought it. When I turn the car on, the screen comes on but it doesn't show any data. It shows the "static" (non-changing) stuff like the icons and words, but not the MPG, or mileage or anything dynamic. When I start pushing buttons, I get the message "External system not connected". Occasionally, it will "engage" and I get information and I set my A/C and all that and life is good. It will soon stop giving info, unfortunately.

Is there some plug that is not seated correctly? Please help!! Anyone know what to do about this one? The screen is not aftermarket.

    Thanks a ton!

    - Ed

    Ed,

What year is your LX? I had a similar condition on my 04 LX and the dealer ended up replacing the entire Nav. screen. I know that there a TSB for this on certain years of LC/LX.

  2. Press Menu, on the screen that appears, there is a volume button--press it and you have another screen.  Here there are not buttons at the top left corner and bottom left corner, but put your finger in there and push--top, bottom, top, bottom--then a new screen will appear.  This new screen has several items listed--just push and hold on the one titled "override"--it will change colors and BEEP.  now push back and whereever else you want to go.  Try it--it really does work!

THIS IS NOT IN THE MANUAL

Thanks once again! I tried this over the weekend and works great. It's great that you can enable this while in motion and it's set (until you cycle the ignition). I also saw that there's other functions, but didn't mess with them.

One more thing... would you happen to know how to enable this same mode on earlier LX/LC, like an 03?

  3. I have an 06 LX also and was wondering if anyone has done the DVD bypass on an 06 and if it worked--I can bypass the Nav system for destinations while the vehicle is moving, but it has to be done each time the car is started.

Can you please share the details on how to bypass the Nav system for destination while moving?

A set of button pushes can override the lockout on most 2004,2005, & 2006 Lexus NAVs until the next time the vehicle is restarted by pushing the buttons in the following order: menu > volume > top left of screen, bottom left, top left, bottom left > override ((hold for several seconds until override is highlighted and beep occurs) > back. Destinations can then be entered while moving.

Thanks! From memory, I recall the menu button being an actual button (drivers side) but the volume is just a knob and what exactly do you mean by "top left of the screen, bottom left, top left etc"... are these buttons on the Nav screen? Lastly, is this in the manual?

  5. The DVD bypass instructions for clipping and grounding the wires worked great.  I can watch DVD's and dial the phone (not driving of course) in route.  However, an interesting thing has started happening after the bypass was completed.  After ejecting the CD/DVD cartridge 6-9 times (to change CD's) the changer will not accept the cartridge.  I can get it working again by disconnecting the main battery and hooking it back up again.  However, this is a real pain.  Has anyone else experienced this situation?  Better yet, does anyone have a fix?

    Security_guy,

Sorry, I don't have the answer, but perhaps a few suggestions. Perhaps you connections were not solid or are intermitting and causing the changer to hang up. Disconnecting the battery will reset the changer and then works ok until you loose connection and then hangs up again.

I would first review you connections and make sure that they are soldered or correctly crimped and that the ground is solid (metal to metal). If that checks out fine and the condition still exist, you can then then undo the DVD bypass and see if the condition is eliminated.

Please let us know the outcome out of this.

    Security_Guy,

Any updates to this? Did you resolve the CD/DVD Changer issue that you had?

    CTapia,

I think it is fixed. So far so good. I simply reinforced the taped the cut wire and tightened the grounding. Cross your fingers for me.

    Thanks....

Good to hear that! I just did mine last night. Did a quick test drive and everything works good. It great that we can now dial out from the screen while in motion.

  7. Awesome !! It took me only 30 minutes ..start to finish. Went for  "test" drive while watching Shrek 2. Outstanding web site. I even hooked up a video lead for future flip-down screen. Any ideas of where to get screen and how to install?

What year LX do you have? Did you buy the DVD bypass module from e-bay? Where did you tap into to get a video out signal?

  8. what is nightvision? does it literally mean nightvision?

Nightvision is a $2000 +- option on the 03-06 LX470. Basically an infrared camera that captures the reflected light of an object (animal, debris etc..) and project the images on the lower portion of the drivers windshield.

It's mainly useful on long dark roads for added safety.

  9. I took delivery of my 2004 LX from Rallye Lexus (Glen Cove, NY) exactly one year ago. Expect between $4,000 - $5,000 off the sticker. Let us know how you make out. Good Luck!

    DB S600,

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but do you happen to have an extra copy of the the sales/marketing brochure for the 04 Lexus LX470? We just bought a used one and would love to get a hold of one. shoot me an e-mail at candido_tapia@yahoo.com. I would like to discuss the crackling/popping sound that you had/have on your 04.

    Thanks

  11. Hi All

I'm just about ready to try this in my new 05 Land Cruiser... I have a few questions if any of you would not mind.

1.) Do I have to disconnect my battery to get this to work?

2.) Does the NAV system still work fine after this procedure?

3.) Besides a bottle opener, tape, and scissors if there anything else I need to do this...

And if you were wondering. I am NOT doing this for DVD video, but for the bluetooth dto not be crippled and to let me dial calls as i can in my sl500 (I assure you, a MUCH! more dangerous operation due to the cryptic german buttons) or even in my 05 Grand Cherokee!

    Compuz1,

Do keep us updated and share your results regarding the added bluetooth functions while the vehicle is in motion. We just purchased an 04 LX470 and will eventually get around to doing this mod.

    Thanks in advance!
