  1. Cool, thanks guys. It took me about six hours but I used all four steps- it looks great- like glass. I didn't wait four hours for the polish to cure per the directions on the bottle, but I waited about 1.5 hours before applying the wax.

Today I'll put another coat or two of the wax on it... it says to wait four hours between coats for the wax, too. I'll have to try a clay bar next time, I couldnt find it in the local stores here so I guess I'll order some. Does it make a big difference in the appearance?

Also, did anyone check out the product I used? http://www.crisp.net/home/joet/basic.html

Just wondering if anyone had tried it or heard of it before.

    Thanks again for the replies.

    He's gotcha covered

  2. That radar jammer is hogwash.

The founder of Rocky Mountain Radar, the company who makes the majority of the "jammers" on the market, has been quoted as saying (I'm paraphrasing): You could sell a black box with lights on it and only get a 25% return rate.

From the best OBJECTIVE (i.e. not trying to sell you anything) radar detector review site, radartest.com:

"Credit Rocky Mountain Radar with creating the market for radar and laser jammers, never mind the fact that we have yet to see one of their products jam a police radar or laser gun."

Active jammers work, but are illegal. Also, some laser jammers are effective.

The $330 Bel RX65 beat out the Valentine One as best overall detector. These guys do very extensive, professional tests of dozens of detectors in every price range.

Check out http://radartest.com/ for lots of information on speed traps, photo traps, cops, radar and laser detector and jammers, etc. You can thank me later.

im looking up on buying this radar/laser detector and jammer. they claim to be the best and they offer a 1 year ticket rebate. so if you get a ticket within a year of having it they will pay for it. thats how confident they are. its called super stealth 9000 and it goes for 299.95. website is best-radar-jammers.com

  3. I thought my free Marriott room and bottle of champaign was great!

You better have a great night for 1350. Enjoy!

If you want to get an idea of what luxury really involves, pick up the latest issue of Robb Report and browse through it. Its about $10 an issue newstand but a subscription is well worth it at ~$80. The average subscriber has an annual income of $800,000.

The marriott... might as well sleep in the back of your LEXUS

  4. Sorry to change the subject, but I noticed your headlights are clear... they look great! I've been looking for clear headlights for my 95 ls400 for a while and had given up, but seeing yours gives me hope. Where did you find them? Thanks.

Instead of a replacement grill, i decided i might put a chrome/billet grill or whatever u wanna call it on my 94 lexus es300. i think it would look nice. I looked everywhere online and could not find any anywhere. Any help?

(Feel free to give me feedback on whether you think this is a good idea or not)

  5. So I just bought the Basic Car Care System kit (http://www.crisp.net/home/joet/basic.html) and it has 4 parts: wash, pre-wax cleaner, polish, and wax.

I figured I just follow the steps 1,2,3, and 4, as the bottles are marked. Once I received the package, I got confused because the directions on the bottles kind of imply that I use either the polish or wax, though it does not state this directly.

The directions for the polish say to wait four hours between coats, and the wax recommends the same wait period between coats. The instructions say to use steps 1 and 2 before step 3 but dont say anything about step 4 (the wax, "finale"). Likewise, step 4 makes no mention of step 3 (the polish).

So should I use all four steps and just put the wax on top of the polish? If so, should I wait 4 hours before I apply the wax after polishing? This stuff was kind of expensive so I want to make the most out of it.

    Thanks for all your help!

  6. the stock system is made by pioneer. The cheapest option would probably be to get a cd changer with an fm modulator. You could get an aftermarket cd head unit (find a kit here: http://www.sfxaudio.com/) but you will lose the factory subwoofer.

Ok I just bought a 1990 Ls400 and it only has the standard casette player. I had a 92 with the Nakamichi AUdio 6 disc system and it sounded awesome for stock. My question is what are the differences between my system now and the nakamichi one? Also would it be possible to switch a Nakamichi system in or would it be better to find something aftermarket? My budget isnt large at all but I need some tunes!

    Thanks!

  7. I called a local lexus-authorized repair shop that I found in the phonebook and they referred me to an electronics shop that repaired OEM stereos.

The Pioner Premium Sound system in my 1993 LS400 has low volume and no bass.

I would like to bring it to a repair shop where it can be examined to determine if the problem is in the head unit, amps or speakers.

Can someone recommend a shop in the Boston/Southern New Hampshire area that has experience with the Lexus/Pioneer systems ?

    Thank you

  8. congrats on your new purchase. i just got my 96 ls400 last week.

i have the same problem with my cd changer. no eject and err 13.

ill keep checking this post to see if anything comes about.

I called the Lexus authorized repair shop and they referred me to a shop that specialized in import electronics.. $300-$400 to fix the cd changer. The guy said it was probably a $20 part, but the labor involved in taking apart the dash resulted in the high cost. I have to find the time to leave my car with the guy for a weekday so he can fix it.

I found out the name of my paint: moonstone pearl. I like it!

  9. Hi all,

    Here is my situation.

I installed a rear overhead screen and a 6 DVD changer in the trunk.

The video setup works great, BUT there is no sound.

I was planning to use IR headphones for the rear passengers and also to hook up the sound to my stock radio through FM Modulator.  I need this because the DVD changer also plays MP3 and CDR which I can not play in my stock Pioneer CD changer.  Well, I hooked up the FM Mod and the sound is horrific :(  After trying all the output frequencies, the sound got better, but not anywhere near the acceptable quality.  I am looking for an alternative for an FM Mod.  I am thinking of somehow tapping into the inputs for the stock AMP as an alternative, but I don't know if this is possible due to voltages and such.

Please help me with this one!

did you ever work this out? I've been thinking about getting a fm mod.

  10. Today I stopped by the "only" shop that can fix my cd changer and LCD on my radio, according to the lexus authorized repair center. He quoted me $300-$400 to get my CD changer working and $300 to replace the LCD display in my radio and repair the backlighting.

Does $600- $700 seem appropriate for the job or should I try to find another place? Would it be more cost efficient to replace the factory cd changer with a newer one to play CD-R's? Thanks for your help!

  11. I just bought a 95 ls400, and it came with the factory 6disc changer in the dash and an aftermarket dvd player in the trunk with a monitor in the headrest.

I discovered that the cd changer will not eject the cartridge, and the wireless infrared headphones do not work for the DVD player, even with new batteries.

I examined the wires on the back of the dvd player and everything seems fine. Should I buy new infrared headphones?

Regarding the 6 cd changer, should I take it to a dealership and have them fix it, or to a high-end car audio retailer?

On a different subject, does anyone have a list of available colors for 95 year ls400's? I would like to know the name of the grayish paint on mine.

Thanks for your help. I love my new car.

  12. You should check out a product called 5 star shine. Guaranteed to last 5 years on new paint, 3 years on used cars' paint. Beads water for 150 washes. And they claim soap isn't needed to wash the car for years after this stuff is applied, supposedly everything slides off like a stick-free pan. Used on US Navy ships to protect against salt and exhaust. It better be good for $100 for one application. I found it on ebay for about $50, so I'm going to give it a try.

First, my admiration goes out to all of you that take great amounts of time and care into keeping your vehicles clean, using materials with exotic sounding acronyms like PwC, EX, #20, and XYZPDQ.  I wish I had your energy and enthusiasm for it.

But the truth is, with a wife and 2 small children, and a 60+ hour work week, and 38 other higher priorities, my car's appearance suffers at times.  Most times, in fact.  I don't know my carnuba from my chamois, so I'll need things explained in layterms.  You're all going to cringe at this, so brace yourselves.  But if I've got 2 hours every 90 days to wash and wax the exterior of my car, running it through touchless car washes in between as needed, what kind of procedure would you recommend for those precious 2 hours?

And, no, responses like "sell your Lexus" are not acceptable.  If it's any consolation, I do keep my car mechanically tight (priority #6, after #5 pay mortgage, before #7 keep children from flushing toys down toilets).

    Thanks in advance.
