  1. Installed Vias Ipod interface...worked...sort of

The Nav Screen would blank out.

Vias replaced unit (they stand behind their product, good guys)

Same symptom . . at random time after playing...or maybe after pushing a button to change song , Nav Screen goes blank....

Thinking unlikely two differnt Vias units have a problem , ask lexus to look at it.

Their reply : "Ipod & interface" draws too much power.

Anyone else have this symptom ?

(It's wifes truck & Ipod, other than installing, I know very little)

Might it be she needs to switch Ipod to some 'mode' ? Can it be tied to how songs are stored ( e.g., playlist) ?

She's gonna try her nano (the tiny Ipod with no display)

( I also installed the facotry sat radio...it works like a champ)

Thanks and Happy Holidays (Merry Christmas)

  2. S O L D

Both volumes; 'new' condition. No torn or dirty pages.

Located in West Palm Beach, FL

Will Post office or UPS at buyers expense.

    - they are 'thick' ( almost 2 inches) and heavy

like a big city phone book.

If buyer local (e.g., w/i 50ish miles) will deliver 'half-way' at no cost...

...OK, you can buy me a cup of coffee :-)

    Asking $100, will entertain offers.

    pete@flca.org

    Thank You

    Pete

  3. FWIW : that's the 40th Aniversary truck . . . 40 years of Land Cruisers . . .and the LX450 is a Land Cruiser with extra Bells & Whistles . . . .

Only main item I'd ask about : ever had a head gasket replaced ? What about the PHH, replaced ? (PHH : PITA heater hose, real short and a knuckle buster to get to), and tranny...replaced or orig ?

The engine is a tough little (well, ain't that little) booger....will last forever; just the head gasket 'seems' to be a common failure.

The PHH is one of those 'forget about a field fix' if it slits on the hi-way.

Tranny is not a weak spot,

If engine & tranny are good to go, and PHH is OK - then everything else is , well , immaterial....

    Enjoy it....

    ( I have a 1994 FZJ80... a 'wannabe' LX450 and a 471,000+ mile old 1986 land cruiser)

  4. Figured it out....

Wife didn't tell me 'exactly'....with system on, she just plugged in Ipod and off it went....

Once we shut everything down (for the night), it works correctly .....

Hint for others: when you first connect IPod to SLI, have everything "Off".

Start car; turn radio "On" select IPod ("CD" ) and enjoy . . .

  5. Installed VAIS system (actually re-install, VAIS stands behind their item! )

I'm not well trained in IPodding :-) , Wife is more advanced than I....

    IPod works, but does not play 'playlists';

not sure if play is at random or when music file was loaded to Ipod or what ....

Is there a setting on the Ipod we should 'click' to allow the 'playlist to emulate a CD' via the VAIS ?

Do I need to cycle the RAND button, on the GX controls ?

The VAIS is set to MD mode (per VAIS's instructions)

Maybe I need to get the book "IPod for dummies" lol

Oh, in the GX470, there's enough room to the right of the glove box,

between the plastic frame & wire harness for the SLI to tuck & be out of the way.

( Little felt over wire harness to protect wires & little block

( of 'shipping foam' between SLI & plastic frame

( to keep SLI snugged in place...

Much easier to retrieve SLI if needed for service or diagnostics....

    pete

  6. You will like thew IPod interface that VAIS makes; easy to install (there's a writeup in this forum); a 'mod' to the install write up: the SLI will 'tuck' to the right of the glove box, 'between' the glove box opening trim & a wire harness. fits very well. Used some felt to protected harness & some foam to keep SLI in-place. Remove 'angle' mount from side of SLI before tucking.

  7. A2 Lexus,

As others have said...don't be too dismayed with Lexus . . .

We had a 1990 LS400 ( best Lexus product ever made)

    The an Rx330 Great Vehicle

Lx470 Awesome (just too big for us)

Rx330,,,,screw their drive-by-wire mess...too scary...step on gas ,,,maybe go, maybe not...

    Gx470, really nice,,,,but the cluck-a-mation crap....

Yo Lexus - are ya slippen ?

  8. Thanks for the reply . . .

Prior to my posting, I did do search & read the threads ( same as you suggested....)

I guess, to me "clunk" & "lurch forward" sounded more 'harsh' than what I sense: but does seem to fit the 'general description'.

    Ours is a brand-spanken new 2006 . . .

We'll keep an eye-open, so to speak...

  9. Do you have ( would you post) part name or number they installed ?

I'd like to take that info to ur Lexus dealer & get it done to ours ( and stuff the knowledge of "it can be done") up his butt ! ( I'm growing weary & tired of lexus of Palm Beach)

    p.s. How much $ ?

can respond directly to pete@flca.org or post here (on this forum)

    thanks

  10. Ours is held by window sucker mount; but mount is 'stood' in cupholder in center console.

Sirrus magnetic mount antenna 'disk' few inches 'in front' of rear hatch seam; center left & right.

Lead antena wire between hatch & body; use little 'zip tie' to affix wire to base of rubber conduit of wire body to hatch.

Using little bamboo squewers or popsicle stick, lift lip of weather seal and tuck antenna wire under it; follow controur right or left to approx stoplight level. Can remove upper taillight trim screw & move trim a tad, push wire under it)

lead wire into cabin 'around' weatherseal where the wire will 'tuck' into a crack between interior trim.

Under rear seat cushion (above carpet, but under mat.

    Under front seat.

Then the power feed, Sirrus antenna feed, and 'transmit to car radio' antenna are placed in a cable tender ( the plastic tube you can buy for 'hiding cables / wires)

Power from outlet at 'floor level' of center console.

Slack wire ( Sirrus antenna and power feel ) neat woulnd and stored under floor mat.

Above discussion, hopefully makes some sense. Our install looks fairly nice and is a lot cheaper than the hundreds Lex wants...

  11. I agree the RX330 CC is too 'agressive'.

We had a RX300 ( and other vehicles w/ CC), the 'level of effort' seemed to be tied to the delta between actual speed & 'set point'.

The RX300 ( and others) would gently accel if the delta is small; if the delta was larges, CC would ease into 'flooring it' and ease out as setpoint is approached.

The 330 seems to floor it for any delta, and doesn't come out until delta=0.

  12. Wifes RX330 in shop for 2 1/2 weeks, waiting for part...

got it back from shop 1 week ago

POS - doing it again !

Same 'lost servo hunting for home' type noise for few minutes after startup.

(last time, duration slowly lengthened until it was continuous)

This is definately not a Lexus...Maybe Ford or Chrysler built the thing & stuck Lexus labels on it !

All the little *BLEEP*y problems...tranny/engine 'hesitation' when you need to go, this A/C noise, outside mirrors don't tilt,,,all the little chit that the wife holds dear ....

Maybe we shudda stayed with the 15 year old LS400 ! Other than dryed up/cracked seats,,,everything worked ! ( oh, few burnt-out & replaced dash lights...)

Oh well, at least we'll get another 'nice' loaner . . .

  13. Normally a lurker, but I have a question.

I have been driving my GX on the beach. In order to do this, I need to deflate the tires tp about 15-18 PSI. The low tire pressure light routinely goes on and stays on until I re-inflate. Once I missed a tire, and it was nice to have the reminder. So normally, no problem. However, yesterday, after inflating back up to 35 PSI (~32 is recommended), the low air pressure lite did not go off. Now it is blinking. I rechecked all 4 tires and they read 34-35 PSI. What gives? Anyone have a similar problem? Can multilple deflation/inflation cycles cause this?

    Thanks.

refer to your owners manual; I know for RX330, the manual talks about how to 'reset' the alarm . . .talks as though the average owner can do it...

  14. Was it covered under warrenty?

Quite innocently, the young lady at 'pay for service' area, stated

"They'll be no charge for todays service"...

    The humor: " today's service "

.... also, why was it fixed for free ?

Warranty ? Rig is about a year old (2004), not too many miles,

    we're the orig owner,

We Wouldn't Pay Any Way !

Rig's been in shop way too much for BS items...

( tranny issues, see other threads; body panel / wind noise, etc)

As for the adjacent post about '. . . filter causing noise...'

If you get the noise that I, and others, talk about, you'll know it.

Although not real loud, it's a very repetative mechanical type of noise; independant of vehicle speed or A/C setting.

"Sounds like" a servo system hunting . . .almost the sound of cycling the passanger chair forward and back and fore and ....but sound definately from under/behind glove box.

  15. Finally got 'er back . . .

They (Lexus dealer) managed to find part & replace . . .

    In July 11

    Out July 28

No more little 'clickety' noise . . .

Now, if they could just do something about the engine-tranny no response situation . . .( like the rig doesn't respond when pressing accelerator...)
