  1. The dealer will tell you that the smell is not their fault.

They have/had a bulletin that advised the customer to switch to a different brand of gasoline.

    Worked on mine.

Had the fix, didn't take care of the smell ,then I switched the gas, using a higher octance and it's fine , had nothing after 1 year of switching ,

  2. Hi, I am new here and just got a 2003 GX 470. First I need to ask...what exactly is this "clunk"???? I am concerened and sure hope my "new" car doesn't have it!!!

Please send me a copy of the newest TSB on the clunk issue as well. I will keep the TSB for future reference if this problem pops up. My email is: variniasumner@yahoo.com

    Thanks so much! :)

can someone PM me the new TSB for the clunk , I have the 2004 GX 470 only heard it one time , just begining at 10,000 miles ,

    thanks

  3. Well first of all, that center console seems like a great idea if you really need more cubby space to put small items.

Now as for a trash bag, I highly suggest NOT HAVING one in the vehicle. I just think it's too "trashy" and that it will stink and everything if left for a certain period of time. My 4Runner actually has this little plastic frame behind my center console, wrapped around my rear vents, and we can buy an accessory trash bag that fits PERFECTLY on the frame, but I don't think any 4Runner owner has ever used it for what it's made for (except one guy who actually bought the trash bag) because the trash belongs to a trash bin, not inside the vehicle! ;) My. $0.02

Great item ! thanks for sharing . just need to find PEP BOYS

  4. Hi! I am sure you will like it. I also have the same color as the one you've purchased.

It is nice! My wife drives it everyday and she finds it so easy to drive around. Ceiling

hight is much more roomy than RX. Eye point is nice and high. Except a few things

such as clunk and loud noise of engine fan(only in the summer time with A/C on), this

vehicle is nicer than any other makers' SUV in my opinion. Enjoy your driving GX!

Thank you for replying! As far as the AC goes - well, I live in Fla - so I'll have to live with the engine fan noise. I am really hoping / praying for no clunk. When I pick up tomorrow - I'm going to ask about the "clunk", and anything else pesky I find in these forums.

By the way, I really didn't get a chance to check out the color (we agreed over the phone on the color - black is too hot for Florida) - is it close to a silver or like a powder blue.

Do you get many comments and/or compliments when driving this baby? I wish it was tomorrow already! :)

Congrats on our new Lexus , you going to love the GX470 , as for the clunk don't let it discourage your thoughts of the Lexus , I've only heard the sound once in my GX , and I'm sitting on the repair just not sure I want to have it repaired , there are mixed reviews on the repair , some good and bad ,

Lady driver here, I love to drive my GX your Dad gave you the right choice ! I drove my GX to Az & back from Wisconsin , it was a great drive , I owned the RX , the GX is much better , more room , open feeling , the V8 engine beats the RX-V-6 engine , have fun & enjoy driving your New GX !!

  5. The green probably refers to the green shading at the top of the windshield. After replacing the windshield in my wife's car, with a generic brand, I found that they come in many different shades on top, or none at all.

    thanks all ,

I got my new windshield , OEM , a Lexus factory windshield , it looks great , the only problem is that they got some of the sealant on my paint finish found it after I left Iw as much to say ^%$# anyway I took some Mequair wax and did a few times of waxing the small area it looks clean,

anyone know what else I could use ..

I really would have to drive another 187 miles back to get it cleaned, will the sealant damage the Lexus finish , right now it's as smooth as ever and cleaned .

  6. I believe that a majority of windshields have this very thin green film to block out SOME of the harmful UV rays of the sun. Try it open your door look at any object outside then look at that object again thru either the windshield or side window and you will notice the slight difference in what your eyes see ;)

    thanks for ther infor,

  7. I have recently purchased a 2004 GX470 with 49k miles. I have discussed an extended warranty with others and received mixed reviews. A recent subscriber mentioned discount warranty coupons around. My dealer laid out a flat $2300 to take me to 100k thru the "new car 7yr/100k Lexus Platinum plan. Is this available for less out there. Is anyone aware of local dealer incentives or where ones find a coupon. Please hurry-I have 900 miles left before the big devision. My dealer wouldnt even throw in a car wash.

    PM for ya ..

  8. I would try going for a OEM Lexus windshield. It may cost more, but safe assured that it will not leak, fit perfectly, and will work perfectly with the rain sensing windshield wipers.

another question? does the front green mean anything, they are saying it's the water-repellent glass??

  9. Any body shop that the Lexus dealer use are usually pretty good, but if one body shop gives you a hard time, I would try to find another Lexus certify body shop. Sometimes the smaller body shop will do a very good job too. I usually look around for a body shop that does high end car such as MB, Rovers or BMWs.

    Good Luck

in the repair shop today I took the GX 470 to the Lexus dealer shop they use ,

was told they will be taking their time doing the job so eight days in the shop

    thanks for all the input

update picked up the GX470 ,, not very happy with the grill .had to return to shop they have to reorder they grill has 1-2 inch pits on most of grill .. Yikes not great ..

Just tell me why can't they look over the parts before they put the parts on!! GRRRRRRRRRRR!! they had the Lexus for 8 days , then I was told they got the wrong windshield from the Vin Number had to have a glass guy to look at the windshield , they were sure I had the

rain sensor Lexus told them not, I always thought the Vin number told it all .. guess it's not so true .. but I do have the sensor windshield it's doesn't say Lexus on the windshield .. PPG glass ..

will see how the next grill turns out .

  10. So I am new to this forum-just got a 2007 GX470-fine so far-question,however-at night(and even during the day for that matter)-there is a small lit area at the tips of the speed and tach needles-is this just a reflection on the chrome ring or is supposed to be like a "T" at the end of the indicator? Does anyone know what I am refering to ? Thanks

The ends of the dial pointers are supposed to be lit in red. Yours is fine.

Have the same thing here .. it's a normal ..

  12. If the insurance company cover the cost of the Lexus body shop, I would just leave it there. If you have to pay out of your own pocket to cover some of the cost, I would shop around, Toyota body shop is a good option.

it's not at the Lexus Dealership it's where they work on Lexus's my Dealer doesn't do the auto body work they send to their auto body shop

so do I need a Lexus auto body shop ? my insurance has already approved the amount..

I'm mad for the Auto Body shop ( Lexus) is pushing me to get parts ordered and get theLexus done .he went as far to ask me for my agent's name so he could acll and tell him it's all been approved .. he's bit too pushing I told him when I was ready I'd call. so what's up with that you think??

nothing like having some one tell you what to do ??@#$@

Obviously they'd be pushing the service faster because you are using their loaner and they want their loaner back ASAP. If you tried to look for other reputable body shops, it might have been better for you. If you went with another body shop, I would think insurance would still get you a rental car, just not a Lexus but it's good enough if you're satisfied with the service.

Now I'm not getting a lexus for the loaner ..I need to get a rental my insurance will pay for one . Bergstrom has a dealership in another town that does the body shop work for the area (it's own by Berstrom also ) that 'swere I need to go for any body work.. It a nice large body shop compared to the toyoyta dealership ..

I want the work done good.

  14. thanks for the infor .. yes insurance company is paying the bill $4500.00 plus the loaner .. less $100 deductible .

I went to auto body shop that does the Lexus repair through the Dealer now I was wondering if I should try a toyota body shop ?

    any feed back ?

  15. My trip to Az and back .. the trip back I hit the bad storms in New Mexico and have some damage to GX .. windshield is pitted , grill is chipped not too mention the front bumper , front sides , had lights are pitted some of damage but enough it looks terrible . the chips are down to the metal ..

I'm being told I need a Lexus Certified Repair shop .. Bergstrom was suggested ,

    My question is

they will paint the hood , then blend the paint on the fenders replace the grill .. replace the head lights ,

    paint the front bumper ,

so does anyone know much about blending the paint ? is the repair worth the job being done right ?

    any help appreciated

    thanks

  16. I went to have a fix for my GX470 .. being the cargo net .. my Lexus came out with all 4 rims scratched ..

they are no telling me there is no way they did it..

I spoke with the Service Manager he says it was not their fault .. now I'm stuck with 4 rims scratched..

    what's a person too do.. ??

this dealer in Wisconsin has always had bad service ..

    thanks for the vent

  17. well i just go tmy GX serviced for its 30k check up. they are charging me 1500 bucks. i am getting one of those protective layers to prevent my car from getting chipped paint. i am sick and tired of paying extra money to get rod of the paint. out of all the cars i have owned this is the only car that get so much chipped paint. out of 1.5k, 1k was from renewing paint. could you guys please shed some light on me

I only have 8,000 miles on mine, so I can't help much with service costs, since all I have had is oil changes. What is that protective paint thing though? I hope you didn't pay 1,000 bucks for basically a nice wax job.

I only have 4000 miles on so I can't help you either ..only oil changes here they were given free (4 oil changes ) .. I've heard abput the propective painting .. no I know has had any problems yet ..

  18. I purchased the Husky cargo liner.. had so many problems .. the cargo  mat didnot fit .. I even worked with the engineer .. I measured the cargo area.. Still didn't fit right ..  Sent it back ... stll looking for a cargo liner ..I will probally visit Brookfield and order one from the Dealer ..

Let us know how the one that Lexus Of Brookfield sells works out. That's where I'd go to buy one as well.
