  1. I had the same problem, It was not the battery not the fluid, it was the brake sensor , which was fixed at proxmity to the pads, when i had the pads change a while ago, they were not properly fixed back. I refitted them after cleaning the sensor heads with electrical sensor cleaning spray, the warning light was gone. Maybe you could check the pads worn limit.( Just a suggestion )

Thanks for the info. Did your battery light also come on briefly when the lights were turned on?

  2. Upon start up ('97LS) when I press the brake to put it in gear the battery light on the dash will flash. This will happen each time of press the brake for a while when I begin driving. The flash is very fast. If I turn the lights on the battery light will stay on for about 2 seconds but afterward the light will not come on again, even when pressing brake. No other problems with lights going dim or car not starting. Battery checked out ok. Any ideas?

    Thanks

  3. Driving my 97 LS400 early this morning my radar detector started going crazy followed by dimming lights on the dash. Barely had any headlights (which was fun BTW) and began losing power to the point that I maxed out at about 25mph. Luckily I coasted in my driveway and it died. Started fine about 2 hrs later but a couple interior lights seemed to be dim.

Does this sound like the typical alternator problem?

    Thanks

  4. Welcome and congrats on your new car! ;)  You'll have to drive a little ways, but JP Importz in Garland provides excellent service.

I've heard about JP's good reputation and I dont mind the drive. I got a decent quote from them for timing belt, pump, coolant but adding in cam/crank seals is $165x2. Yikes! At these prices I'm tempted to waste a weekend and do it myself.:cries:

    Hello John,

The $165 is for cams(2) and crank seal. Our work is back by 20k miles or 20 months warranty. We will pick up your vehicle and drop off a loaner at your front door at no charge. Our service is better than your lexus dealership! Pictures will be taken during the repair and email to you. We only use Lexus factory parts!

    Jason,

Thanks for the info. Loaner goes above and beyond, although I dont need one. I received a few recommendations from the boards for a guy in FW that does this for $700+tax. Of course, if you can match I'd rather use you, but I understand you have your prices and they are much more reasonable than the dealer (and most independents).

  5. I have a 1997 LS400 black, code 202. How do you know whether or not it has clearcoat? I've gotten conflicting information about it. Makes it kind of hard to buy products ;)

Also, my code reads C/TR 202/WZ01. My car is two tone, black-grey. How do I find the code for the lower part?

    Thanks for any info

  7. I'm new to lexus and the site (great site btw!). I'm looking to purchase a 95-96 es300 w/under 110000 miles. After searching and reading FAQ I've found the following information to check before purchase:

    service records

    accidents

    # owners

    motor mounts

    brakes

    oil sludge problem

    transmission issues?

Is there anything else that I should specifically look for or be wary of with this generation?

    Thanks

    John
