  1. update: well, i was unsuccessful at getting the dealer to cover it under warranty. first of all, the service folks were a nice bunch. anyways, the guy did a pen test where he stick a pen thru where he thinks the point of impact is. it does look like it got hit... by a small peable! so i got a quote from dealer instead. here's for your future reference: dealer vs. aftermarket.

dealer: $1429. (oem glass was $1028. the rest are molding and labor)

safelite: $474. (safelite glass + molding + labor)

both oem and aftermarket glass have rain sensor.

  2. i was only trying to do a "windshield replacement" search to see what kind of windshield people opted for: oem or aftermarket (like safelite). and how good the install was, dealer vs. some company... then i found this thread. interesting...

just happened to my '05 this weekend. :cries:

crack coming from near bottom driver's side and went slightly diagonal towards the center about a foot long. my wife and i hadn't notice any rock hit the windshield but we simply dismissed it as 'must've been a rock'. i'm going to take it to dealer and have them take a look. hopefully, they'll cover it under warranty.

  3. hello all,

i just took delivery yesterday of my GX470 - silver pine. i've looked at the Cayenne (base) and the X5 (3.0) and for the price/performance/options/best bang for the buck, the GX was hats off for me.

anyways, my driveway has a steep incline. i notice that there is a "clicking sound" when i go from brake to gas while the vehicle in on an incline. it's a very annoying sound coming from underneath or from the front of the vehicle! my wife says she could hear it from outside as well. i did a forum search and all it came up was someone's post about "noise" coming from uphill assist. i am not sure if this is the same sound i am hearing.

i called my dealer today and told them about it. said to bring it in so they'll have a look. just want to know if anyone here is experiencing the same thing.

    cheers!

    -joe
