  1. i was quoted for a key from longo lexus at 270 for the key and programing. and yah you do need the original master key.

an alternative that i did was found a blank key from ebay for about 80 dollars and then got it cut for 20 and then programmed it myself.

another alternative is to find a locksmith who will do it for you. the one i went to who cut the key for me said he would have gotten me a key, cut it and program it for about 130.

  2. Was it covered under warrenty? the powertrain warrenty?

    Yes,,,

Quite innocently, the young lady at 'pay for service' area, stated

"They'll be no charge for todays service"...

    The humor: " today's service "

thats so awesome they fixed your rx. I am pretty sure I have the same exact problem as you. the clicking is a total nuisance. What should I tell the dealership when I go get it fixed? I am not really interested in paying them just to find out what the problem is. also, why was it fixed for free ?

  3. Finally got 'er back . . .

They (Lexus dealer) managed to find part & replace . . .

    In  July 11

    Out July 28

No more little 'clickety' noise . . .

Now, if they could just do something about the engine-tranny no response situation . . .( like the rig doesn't respond when pressing accelerator...)

Was it covered under warrenty? the powertrain warrenty?

  4. I am at 58k miles on my 2001 RX300,

I need my brakes replaced, they squeak like crazy.

Any suggestions on where I should go? Big-O, Sears, Midas, Toyota, Lexus?

I was thinking I should just purcahse the brake pads from toyota or lexus and get it put on somewhere. What is the most economical option? (I dont have the know-how to do it myself :( )

    Also, From Midas.com:

"Our brake pads and shoes come with the famous Midas Lifetime Guarantee — once you purchase them at Midas, you will never need to pay for replacements again, so long as you own your car. "

Does this mean they are lifetime brakes? are these good for the car?

  5. The programming procedure for the Transponder Chip for years 98-01 are as follows:

Add Duplicate Key: On-Board Program E (1998+ Toyota, Lexus)

    (IGNITION)

    1. Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.

    2. Insert existing master key into ignition.

    3. Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.

    4. Within 20 seconds depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and remove key.

    5. Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition.

    6. Within 10 seconds depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time.

    7. After 80 seconds new key is registered and security light goes off.

    8. Remove new key and depress and release brake pedal 1 time.

These are the programming procedures for Lexus RX300 (DOORS)

    A. 1. Open drivers door

    2. Insert your key in the ignition, then remove it.

    3. Using the inside power lock button, cycle the locks locked/unlocked 5 times,

leaving them in the unlocked position.

    4. Close and open the driver's door.

    5. Again, cycle the locks locked/unlocked 5 times, leaving them in the unlocked position.

    6. Insert the key in the ignition and turn it one time to ON position, then OFF.

    7. Remove the key from the ignition.

    8. The power locks should cycle once to indicate you are in the program mode.

    9. Press the lock and unlock buttons together. Then, press any keyremote transmitter button for a minimum of 1 second.

The locks should cycle only once. If they cycle twice, you are still in program mode,

Close and open the door. you need to try and press the button again.

I have discovered all problems are associated with how long you hold both buttons down initially,

and how quickly you press either the lock or unlock button. Experiment with slightly

    different amounts of time...

  6. I actually was in the same situation about 3 months ago when i first bought my 01 rx300. i kinda regret buying this option. two reasons:

    1. i have full coverage insurance (state farm....which also doesnt give me any discounts for lojack)

    2. lexus cars require a laser cut key that has a chip inside for it to start up. a key isnt enough. the chip in the key has to be programed. (however, i dont have much knowledge of this aspect and how easy it would be to steal an rx without the original keys.)

if i could do it over again, i would not have bought this.

  7. not trying to steal the thread but i figure this is a similar question pertaining to hatches.

my 2001 rx300's hatch doesnt open up all the way automatically...i kinda have to pull it upward and then once halfway, it slowly lifts by itself. Is this how its supposed to be (i bought it used).

  8. driving with the e-shift is nothing like driving a real 5-speed. youre just pressing buttons which feels video-game like. if youre interested in driving a stick-shift, the e-shift automatic is not a good substitute

  9. wow you got $22,000 for your 99 rx300 with navigation and 66k miles?? that is so awesome man! to put this into my perspective, i paid $25,000 for my 01 rx300 fwd w/o navigation and 53k miles....im not sure is this was a good or bad deal though.

    was it?

  10. From toyo in linked thread by tunedrx300:

Ok, this is for everyone except for Ederny, what a prick!

Follow these instructions and it should take you no longer than 15 minutes.

    1. Remove 2 screws at the top of the black bezel around the cluster.

    2. Pull trim piece straight out on the left of the steering wheel, the trim that houses the seat memory switch.

    3. Pull trim piece straight out that is around the key.

    4. Tilt steering wheel all the way down.

    5. Remove black bezel around cluster, start from the bottom and pull out.

    6. Remove 2 screws holding cluster in. They are on the side of the cluster.

    7. Pull cluster out enough to get your hand behind and unplug the 3 connectors.

    8. Remove cluster from car, you will kinda have to move it around a little bit to get it out, be careful not to scratch the lens.

    9. Lay cluster face down on a soft towel.

    10. You will see a white plastic cover on the back, remove the 8 gold colored screws holding this cover on.

    11. Pull cover off, turn the cluster over and look where the gear selector letters are, on the oppisite side you will see 3 black and 2 green little cap looking things. These are the bulbs. Simply unscrew to remove. you may swap the park light bulb for the drive bulb. Or you can order one in advance.

    12. Put all together in reverse order.

    13. It sounds like alot of steps, but it is all very easy and understandable once you start.

    Hope this helps. Steven

  11. Let me take the liberty of being not PC and guess what you are like, if you're a single male and driving an RX300, then you may be a political activist, not into the outdoors (otherwise you would have gotten a real SUV like a Jeep), slightly overweight (prefers comfy things), and value conscious. How many of those did I get right ? .......  Before you pass judgement, I'm just having some fun on my lunch hour.

im not single, i have a gf... i suppose, legally i am single though

i am not a political activist...maybe you guessed that because i am in berkeley right now.

you are right, i am definately not into the great outdoors

im actually underweight... 5'4" and 115 lbs

im definately value conscious... although everyone probably is but i like to do intensive (but not extreme) research when buying stuff.

this is fun, you werent that bad
