  1. Hi bodies,

    My quick and sad story...

Over the last weekend someone smashed front window on passenger side in my LS.

I found a used window with the right tinting color at a decent price, and it's on the way to be delivered.

Could you help with advise on how to replace front passenger window in '91 LS 400 or point link to the topic discussion?

I tried to find info in forum, but... there are 225 pages of topics in LS forum alone. :( and didn't find it in DYI section.

Just want to figure should I try to fix it myself, or just use body/glass shop to do it for me.

Thanks a bunch for any of your help!

  2. What kind of problems will indicate of water pump or tensioner or timing belt need to be replaced?

Note that in the Owner's manual, if you don't use the vehicle for "Taxi or Police" there is no requirement to change the timing belt at any particular mileage.

Routine inspections are all that are required.  If the water pump or tensioner are giving problems, this is an obvious time to do the complete job.

Otherwise for normal driving, don't fix it if it's not broken.

    Mick

  3. If you mean brake rotors, done last year, but thanks!

Could you tell me more about rear stabilazer linkages? Are these called rear sway bar links, or there is something else?

See if you guys have any other suggestions.

Based on posts here, I fully updated my LS, except for the timing belt.

    Changed between 100K and 120K:

    Steering wheel pump

All Break Rotors - 1 year ago

    Starter

    Alternator

    A/C compressor

Tires - less then a year - Toyo Proxies TPT - recommend! (on my LS400 I have GS '93-97 16" OEM wheels with 225-55R16 H rated Toyos - look very nice!)

You might try Ebay, and look for the "kit". It would include both tensioner and idler rollers, along with the belt, pump and tensioner piston assy. It might also be a good time to replace the distributor caps and rotors. Most waterpumps don't come with the o-ring seals you should replace with the pump. Get these from the dealer, about $5 for both.
    Hi,

I see a good tutorial on this job, but trying to order parts got confused.

    I have The :) '91 LS400 with 136K on it.  I've been driving it the last 40K.

Checked with Lexus national database - no records were found on changing timing belt in my car :(((

Also both rear stabilazer linkages got pretty worn, so the you can hear "jumping serenade" noise when driving on bad roads (though air suspension seems to be in tact).

Can someone reply with exact parts names and suggest good internet stores for OEM parts. Which tensioner would I need - hydrolic or bearing???

I found www.car-stuff.com, but not sure if anyone had any experience with them?

How these prices sound in your opinion???  They also have FREE shipping !

    T.Belt - $55.40

    W.Pump - $99.40

    hydrolic tensioner - $50.00

rear sway bar link - $31.50 - do you folks know, if this is the same as stabilizer linkage??? - a short arm with 4 bolts?

REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP ON THIS!!!

  4. let me know what happens...

The problem is gone on it's own - the season is over :)

As odd as it seems, the trac light goes on only in the snowy season...

I had it a couple times last year, but it was much worse this year.

The light stopped go on after well into hot summer season - I guess as someone mentioned in one of the forum postings here, it has something to do with one of the sensors.

    Later...

  6. Hi everyone,

Can sub be fixed? The wire on mine was pulled and no longer connected to the cone :(

I have 8" rear sub for Nakamichi system in my 91 LS400.

    Really miss that deep sound!

Maybe anyone have spare working sub? What recomentations do you have for replacement considering saving $$ and time? Does size matter? ;)))

I could not believe, but info on the magnet (rear side) of my sub says 5 Ohms?

    Is it possible?....

    Anyway, thanks for your help!

  7. Hi folks!

Please help with advise! I have '91 LS400.

"TRAC" light goes on after driving for about a mile and stays on.

Can it damage the traction control system if I am taking my car on a road trip for about 2K miles?

What are the options and solutions? Will appreciate as much details and help!..

    Thanks for your help!!!

My best regards to all you LEXUS LOVERS! :)
