  1. If you are looking for the supra twin turbo engine with radiator and all the other stuff, look for a jdm front clip from a supra (or a Soarer 2.5tt)-basically they just chop off everything foreward from the firewall. I think you can find them, I know Honda and Nissan front clips are pretty common.

  2. Unfortunately, there is not much aftermarket support for this engine. I am unclear as to how much hp you could free up with an exhaust system, but Im guessing you could get at least 10 hp by removing the cats and increasing the piping diameter. No confirmation on this though...

The intakes available would most likely rob power unless you could do something custom to get cooler air into the open filter element under the hood.

I still cant find a set of headers for the 400

Anything you want to do internally to the engine would have to be custom, as no companies make things like cams or pistons unless its custom.

If im wrong about the aftermarket parts availibility someone please correct me.

Nitrous seems like a great method of adding power to the 400 if done correctly and safely, especially considering the hp/dollar ratio.

  3. Getting a thicker headgasket to run a 100 shot or less seems like overkill to me, although lowering compression would allow for a slightly larger margin for error. Still, tuning is still the most important factor in prevention of detonation.

And your performance would suffer slightly when not on the bottle.

  4. I tend to distrust most auto mechanics. I dont think a mechanic has ever said "Yup, all it needs is a little freon."

If he claims your compressor is leaking, ask for proof. There is a dye they can put in your ac system, and it will show where any leaks may be occuring.

Ive had the ac go out on 2 of my previous vehicles. At the shop, both times they reccomended that the compressor be replaced. I felt like they were feeding me a line, so I told them to just fill it up with freon. The result? Ice cold air coming out my vents. And it diddnt leak out.

    Just a thought..

  5. ok, here goes-Hell Yea! Id say you are definitely on the right track with a lexus sc. I myself am an artist and I really appreciate the lines of my sc. It looks better than 95% of the cars on the road in my opinion. I just bought my 400 for 5200. It has alot of miles, but the car and engine bay are immaculate. It runs and rides great and is reasonably quick.

Im 25 and im paying 225 a month in Phoenix az. My old car (which was stolen) was a 1992 Accord 4 door. I paid 160 a month plus a 140 a month car payment. Its cheaper to own my lexus since I dont owe on it.

Ive only been driving it for a couple of weeks, but in that time Ive had no problems and am very happy with my new (old) car.

You should get a Lexus :magic:

  6. Thats sad.

They really messed up on the front end. Very ugly.

Side view looks pretty tough, no complaints there.....

But damn, that front just looks terrible.

Car manufacturers are taking this retro thing a little too far.

    Just my opinion :magic:

  7. Hello everyone, I Just bought a 1992 sc400 with 193000 miles on it. You wouldnt know from driving it though, and the interior, exterior and engine bay are almost immaculate. Oh, and i stole it for 5200!

Since buying this car my mind has been reeling with ideas about modifying this engine but i dont really know too much about the v8 because I originally planned on getting an sc300. So I have a few questions:

Can you swap heads with the vvti heads that come in the newer scs?

I noticed that the auto transmission is pretty gutless. Anyone here using a higher stall torque converter? If so how well does it work?

Any turbo kits available or do I have to piece one together?

Ive seen intakes and exhaust systems for the v8 but no aftermarket headers. Do any exist?

What aftermarket parts are you using and would you reccomend them?

Thats all for now, im sure ill have more questions soon. I look foreward to learning from all of you about this excellent piece of machinery. ;)
