  1. I recently recievied a 1991 ls400 with 155k miles. Before I got the car it had standard work done on it, replaced timing belt, water pump, fixed power stearing leak, oil change, and oil filter . Beside from other not so important problems like the blacked out clock, broken remote entry, no electric trunk release, partially working stereo, and worn out seats there isn't anything seriously wrong with the car. Several people have remarked that a car with that many miles is very unreliable. All I have read on this site is that this car will last much longer. Is there any problem I should be concerned about and how much longer will my car last without needing huge repairs. All of the work on the car has been done by a Toyota or Lexus Dealership.

  2. yes, that sounds like a trunk wiring problem. I haven't experienced it myself but from what I've read, odd electrical issues can be traced back to this issue.

Do a search here and you'll find out more details.

I had the same problem. In my case I had a burned out break light. The contacts on the bulb had melted and when I stepped on the break the bulb would short and overload the system. Replaced the bulb and all was well.

  3. I have read most of the posts on the TRAC light problems/solutions. Is it a problem to drive with the light on? I don't need traction control. Can I ignore the light until I fix it?

    Thanks

    Yes, absolutely, keep driving.

Where I live the 92 TC is only useful as an indicator of slippery roadbed conditions that otherwise might be un-noticeable, in LA probably totally useless.

    THANKS! wwest

  4. Howdy all! I'm a new lexus owner and I thought I'd drop in and share my limited success with my car. I bought it for a damn good price, and all it required was a little TLC:

    -Headlights

    -Timingbelt

    -Hood Supports

    -Little paint

    -New rear tires

    -New Windshield.

And well, I started driving it around and was loving it. But, I have always been a fan of hearing a car. Not hearing it go CRACK CRACK VROOOM CRACK CRACK CRACK, thats just wrong. Anyways, I wanted to hear my car abit, and did a little online research for muffler delete mods. Well, I have yet to see anyone do it with a 91 LS400, seems that the 2nd gen and up have it easy and just have to loosen a clamp. But, we poor suckers with 1st gen have to do a little messy work. My father and I got down under the car and heres what we did, hopefully it helps, or if anyone needs help doing something similar, feel free to email me. I'll add pictures sometime if theres any interest.

We raised up the back end and grinded the back mufflers off (kinda sad to see that beautiful system get chopped).

Got some half decent pipe, about 24 inches long with an exhaust tip welded to the end.

Then we welded that onto the pipe already present(where we just grinded).

Then welded a chain onto the pipe, and put that on one of the nuts used to hold the heat shielding on where the muffler used to be.

Car sounds wicked, Soon as my batteries are charged up i'm going to get some video of the exhaust system.

All in all, it was around $60 for tailpipes and piping. Had everything else around home.

You can check the car out here : http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2640697/1

Pictures are old, from when I first got it, but I'm pretty proud. Thanks for hearing me out, hopefully that helped someone! Looking forward to chatting it up with the lexus community!

I happen to like my silent LS, but to each his own.

I looked at the pics of your car. VERY NICE! I did however notice your wheels are on wrong. Someone may have rotated them with the old X method. If you look closely you can see a small "R" and "L" on the edge of the rim.

    Just a nit-pick.

    Enjoy yor LS

  5. Does anyone have the name of a good shop in the greater Los Angeles area that repairs Lexus radios? My lights are out and the LCD characters are missing segments. Also, I have an error code 116 on my cd player. Anybody know what that means?

    These guys are very good.

  6. Ok for those of you who have expressed an interest with using the Lexus factory phone options with your current phone, I have the answer. I have built several adaptor kits for the 90-95 Lexus LS400. Let me know what your interest is in this product This device will allow you to use the factory mute, H/F speaker and microphone, 12V switched power, 12V power, & ground. Also I can make kits by request that can be used with phones that do not have a car kit. As per the forum rules I am not advertising this product for sale just letting anyone that is interested know about its existence.

I have 92 ls w/factory phone and I would love to be able to plug in my Motorola T720!

    Thanks

  7. I'm just curious how old the members here are. What are the ranges and so forth?

I'm 31 / male. Commercial real estate lender "do some small business start up loans on the side".

I'm 58/male computer geek in S0. Cal.. 92 ls w/205,000 miles (on the car. Many more on me).

  8. I had a tune-up (plugs, wires, valve adjust, etc.) done last week. They also found radiator covered with leaves, hay and etc. junk. Cleaned all the junk away and so far she runs great. This summer will be the true test.

Thanks to all for your advice.

  9.  I had my radio worked on. Now the hight light if flashing "normal". The switch on the console has no effect.  I'm thinking they may have broken a wire on the switch while removing the radio?  Does it sound like I'm on the right track,  and how do I remove the panel to check?

    Thanks

:blushing: Boy is my face red! The problem was the Air Suspension switch in the tool kit bay was in the off position.

  10. My 92 LS400 runs great when the weather is cool and trafic is moving. If (when, I live in LA) traffic slows to stop and go, the engine starts to miss and stall as if it is out of gas. No warning lights and the engine temp gage reads normal?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

:blushing: Yes, I meant the HIEGHT light. Did you mean the switch "May not have been reconected" or "It can't be reconnected"?

    Thanks,
