  1. Did you ever get a fix for the clicking behind the Nav?  I just got a 01 GS300 with the same problem and need some help.  Thanks!

no, but when i turn the heat up to over 80, it goes away, then i turn the heat back down to 66. the noise goes away until i turn the car off, then the next morning its back, so i turn the heat back up to 80 and so goes the story, i guess i need to take it to the dealer....

  2. i think i found an answer to my problem, here it is:

    Swishing Water Noise???

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am having a strange problem, which is occuring after I went to my

30,000 mile service at the Lexus dealer:

When I drive off, you can hear some kind of "swishing" water sound from

behind the dash, as if water or SOME liquid is transferring itself to a

different location. And it's kind of loud too, so noticeable because

the Lex is such a quiet car.

I'm about to take it back to the dealer, but I was wondering if any of

you have had a similar strange problem such as this. Actually, I

faintly remember reading a thread awhile back about some issue similar to

this one, but I couldn't find it.

I really don't want Lexus to tear apart my car to find it either. If

they can't pinpoint it quite easily, I'm going to grow worried that

they'll want to do some major prying behind the dash or in the engine bay,

    on a search mission.

I only hear it when I am pulling off, and sometimes when I am coming to

a stop. It almost sounds like a screw is loose and run amok, but it

sounds more like liquid or even sand/dirt that is changing positions

    everytime I pull off.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm........

Thanks a ton, TLW, for finding your thread.

So let me get this straight:

You did exactly as Sal said in your thread...taking off radiator cap,

capped off the coolant, started the engine (with radiator cap off), let

car heat up 'til cooling fan kicked in, turned the heat up, let the fan

cycle one more time (with no coolant added), tightened the cap (with

car still running)...and whalaaaaaaaaahhh! It was fixed?!? WOW!

Or do you think it's just best to have the system completely flushed

    out and drained?

    dash.

When the dealer did your 30k, they drained the coolant like they were

supposed to but did not fill the coolant properly trapping air in your

heater core. Take it back to them and explain that this noise started

after the 30k service. They should know exactly what to do because it is

    a well known problem.

    Good Luck,

    Will

Out of curiosity, did you turn-up the heat (cabin temp HOT), else the

coolant inside the core, remains trapped along with the the air bubbles.

By the way, there can be other sources of water noise.

Thanks, TLW and Sal. I believe it has worked. But I will let you know

later this week when I drive the car more. I heard it ever so slightly

one time afterwards, but not the full "rushing water sound" since I did

    Sal's procedure.

It took a while for that damn fan to kick in though, like 25 mins. And

then it took another 20 mins for it to cycle again with the heat on.

    But it was worth it.

Question: Once the fan cycles and you turn the heat on, do you use the

Auto mode which turns the A/C on, or are you supposed to turn the heat

on without the A/C condensor on? Just curious. I turned it on using

Auto which kicked the condensor on as well of course.

Eventually, 15 minutes in, I turned the A/C condensor off, and left

    only the heat on.

I still think it worked but want to know the correct procedure for

    future reference.

    Again, thanks a TON!

    Boring details ...

    Yes you have been warned

Complete water circuit has two choke points, thermostat and heat

exchanger (hot air supply to the cab). The key is to make them fully open.

Heat exchanger is controlled by cabin temprature set point. The cooling

fan only comes on after the thermostat is open, that is why the we wait

for the fan to kick-on. There are other indicators as well (if you can

safely look inside the radiator, you will notice a sudden surge in

water circulation, indicating the thermostat is open). So why do it twice?

    Just for reassurance.

Auto climate control contributes nothing as the a/c compressor clicking

on would be at lower cabin temprature. Unless defrost is slected which

should increase engine load and may be contribute more to the heating

    of the coolant.

In any case, it takes a while to heat up the coolant when the cabin

heater is on (which cools the coolant). That is why they say that if the

engine over-heats, turn on the cabin heater.

Word of Advice: If your overflow reservoir does not have coolant above

"min" there is a chance that your coolant circuit will suck in AIR. You

will be plagued by the bubble trouble.

    Salim.

Thank you, THANK you, THANK YOU... for all those boring details. I

    think I understand now.

And I never have checked my reservoir, so it may be low. When adding

coolant, can you add regular green-ish anti-freeze, or do you have to add

    some special Lexus-brand (reddish?) anti-freeze?

Sal, thanks for all the info. Those details have brought me full

    circle.

you should be using the same anti-freeze for the whole system, toyota

long life or extra long life.

don't mix your anti-freeze with the green stuff unless that is what you

    used in the first place.

    i have a question,

Does our GS have an air bleeder valve to take out air from the system?

Or, to take air out of our system, do as Salim described?

  3. i have the same problem but with a 2001 gs300, its really annoying, did you have any luck fixing yours

    Hello guys,

I have a 98 gs4 and I have noticed that everytime I turn my AC on I hear this like hamster wheel noise (best way I know how to describe it) coming from the AC controls on the dash...like behind thedash somewhere behind the radio or something....It alsmost sound slike if you stuck a straw in a glass of water and blew air into the straw...like bubbles or something, but not quite.

Its getting really anoying and Im wondering what the heck that noise is.  When I turn the AC off it takes about 2 minutes to stop but it stops. And then if I turn the ac back on , the noise comes back.

Anyone know what this pain in my behind could be?

    THanks

  4. i have a 2001 gs300 with nav and i noticed that when i turn the key to the on position or start the car, there is a strange "puttering" noise comming from behind the nav system. I opend the glove compartment and i can clearly hear the noise comming from behind the nav system. its not the cd changer, i am thinkg it has someting to do with the hvac control, does anyone have any idea or similar experience. thanks a bunch for any advice.

    Bill
