  1. Hello everyone,

I have a 2006 IS 350 and recently I have been hearing a strange noise. It seems that around highway speeds (between 55 to 80+mph) I will hear a strange knocking sound from the rear whenever the road is a little bumpy. I cannot pinpoint where the noise is coming from exactly. However, the noise sounds just like something hitting the rear windshield. It really sounds like the brake light from inside the rear windshield is hitting the rear windshield whenever I go over a bump. Is this possible? Or is the noise something else? I am just trying to figure out what this is and how to stop it as it is really getting on my nerves. Does anyone else have this experience as well? Thanks in advance for the help!

  2. Hello,

I was recently cleaning out my cupholder and while I was doing that a screw that I had lying in there (dont ask me why it was in there cause I dont know lol) got away from me and slipped under that cover of the shifting area. It was right above the shift knob when it is in park (it was already under the cover and past any point of return) and when I put the car in drive I heard it hit something and fall further...I was wondering if this can cause any damage and hurt the car in anyway? Is there anyway to get it out? As you can tell this is making me quite nervous. All the advice is appreciate as always, thanks!!

  3. I was also sick of cleaning off the dust so I inquired about the new break pads. The service guy said there was a notice posted stating it was ok to replace the pads for free on both the 250/350.

I am all for it and will be getting them replaced this week!

    Cool,

I just found out that the brake dust TSB was updated to included the IS250s. I plan to have this done when I go in for the 5k service. Please let everyone know if you like the change with regards to pedal feel, stopping power etc... The lack of dust is a given improvment and I would bet that any other differences are minor at best.

The TSB is attached for reference.

    Regards,

Wait, quick question....What did you mean change to "pedal feel, and stopping power"? Just curious as to what you mean, especially the change in stopping power....

  4. I'm here to tell you it didn't work for my wife. When she took her car in for the free first oil change I told her to tell them the front brakes sure gave off lots of dust. I'm kind of tired of cleaning them. Crap, after ONE DAY you can see the dust on them. It drives me crazy because I hate it when you see a nice car and the front wheels look like someone painted them black. So she asks them if there's anything they can do, and they politely say no.

    So it doesn't ALWAYS work.

I suppose not....Sorry man that sucks :blushing:

I guess you just have to have the right dealer....The one I go to is suppose to be the largest dealer on the world and they take care of me for the most part....They even replaced my tires for me for free when they wore down so quickly....I guess it just depends on the dealer or how big of a stink you make out of it. Well good luck next time with things!! c

  5. Hey,

I just got those new brake pads installed at the dealer (for free) that supposedly release less brake dust!!!!!

I can't wait to see how they hold up....So far so good, although when I step on the brakes it feels a little musher but same stopping power, I dunno maybe it's just me. A buddy of mine had these pads installed a week ago and said little brake dust release, so we'll see soon!!!! I'll let you guys know how they hold up, it's been a few days and as of now they are pretty good!

  6. Hey, a few weeks back my IS350 was making this strange noise when I dropped it into gear (from park to drive, or to reverse, or from reverse to drive, or drive to reverse) it was a like a metal on metal sound and it made a really loud clank when dropping into gear the noise comes from the rear only.

Funny thing is, this was the only time it ever made the noise, never while driving....So I took the car in and they first trimmed the brakepads in the rear and lubed them up....Well that didn't take care of the problem, so after leaving my car at the dealer for a week they finally thought it was the rear brake assembly so they ordered the parts and it took a week to get here. Well it's about 2 weeks later and I just got my car back today.....I tested it out there and no problem....For a few hours no problems at all, and then I went to go move my car in the driveway the noise was back again....

What should I do? Does anybody have any idea what this could be? I guess Iam going to have to take it back to the dealer, but if after two weeks this is all they came up with and the noise is still there I doubt they will have any new ideas.....

  7. Ok, thanks for the advice.

i cant really tell you how the tranny will fail because i have not experienced it but my friend sais that eventually it wont go in to gear. and well 4000 bucks isnt a bad price becasue he does everything meaning taking out the trans rebuilding everything and putting it back in. and if you have ever taken an auto trans appart and rebuilt it you will want to charge a price like that because trans work is very teadious it requires absolute cleanliness or the trans will fail. and the reason why my friend charges so much is because he is know to have the cleanest shop on the island.

anyway i went down to the dealer this morning and priced out a trans for the sc400. the price through my account is something like $2360 with a $1000 core meaning that you pay like $3400 and get a grand back when you take the old trans back.

  8. I have a 93' SC400 and it seems that when I first get into the car in the morning or after it has been sitting long enough for the engine to be totally cold I shift into drive and I have to wait before the gear drops into place, and even then if I take my foot off the pedal the car will move but it feels like it's not totally in gear, and then after a few seconds it will, for lack of a better, word jump and then it will drive normally. And sometimes if I just wait long enough for the car to heat up it will drop into gear like normal.

However that only happens when you first start the car, but recently when I have been at a complete stop like at a light, the car feels like it drops itself into neutral and then back into drive this happens about 3 or 4 times but when I hit the gas it drives. Also when Iam driving it feels like it drops itself out of gear but quickly comes back into it. I was wondering what the problem is, what I could do to fix it, and if anybody else has had this problem or something similar to it. Your advice would be much appreciated THANK YOU!!
