  1. Hi Deborah 108, the install went quite well. The rear camera is mounted in the license plate holder and you really have to look to see it - activates when gear is placed in reverse. The front camera is also in the license plate frame and is a bit of a pain as you have to hit a button on the head unit to activate the front view (it's my wifes car so I don't drive it enough to instinctively find the right button - and its small!)

A local well regarded auto stereo install shop installed the total system, Kenwood head with navigation, new Focal speakers including subwoofer (we had them take out the rear seat bottom (which we kept to convert back if needed), then then fabricated a kind of package tray to hold either luggage or groceries using carpet and vinyl trim to match the stock upholstery - then they mounted the sub under the rear package tray.

The upgrade in sound quality is incredible - we are both audiophiles - probably more me - but amazing sound now even with the top down.

This route was a bit pricey, but we are very happy with the results and functionality of the package tray.

I should add that although we really like the sound of th Kenwood head unit (can't remember the model but its was their latest top of the line last summer), the XM/Sirius radio reception is not as good as on our other vehicles stock version - cuts out often in areas our stock units don't.

  2. Thanks for the tip Jim - I'll check that out. My closest dealer is over an hour away , and they are brand new to the area (well, eight months or so.)

You can buy the roof rack removal kit and download/view the instructions at http://lexus.sewellparts.com/accessories-catalog/viewall/RX350-2014/4608.html

Be sure to register with your forum member name to get a discount - currently $US68.92. I'm pretty sure Sewell ships to Canada and to other countries but you might be able to get it for a similar price or less in BC. I've bought a lot of stuff from Metro Toyota/Lexus in Victoria but not lately - excellent service from their parts department.

The RX roof rack looks like it could be handy. Toyota/Lexus dealers in many countries sell a number of accessories for them including aerodynamic ski and cargo boxes.

  3. We have just ordered a 2014 RX350 for my wife and it is due to arrive in a couple of weeks. We tried to order without the roof rack as neither of us like the look, and we will never use it as I have a full size pick up. Unfortunately we were unable to order it withoutthe rack.

I'm curious as to how difficult it is to use the rack removal kit - I don't want to scratch the wifes new baby!

Please keep us posted as to how the removal went..........or has anyone else done this removal and care to comment?

  4. I'm also considering removal of the roof rack rails on my wife's 2010 RX350, acquired Jan '13. We never used the roof rack on the 2000 RX300 she put 200K plus miles on, and my acquisition of a pickup truck makes it improbable a roof rack will be needed. I found the Lexus Roof Rack Removal Kit online for under $100:

    • 4 Inner Rack Roof Retainers
    • 2 Left Side Roof Moldings
    • 2 Right Side Roof Moldings
    • 8 Mounting bolts

Once my wife agrees, I'll make the change and put the rails up for sale.

  5. We are due to have a back up camera as well as a forward facing camera (for those low curbs) installed in late June. They are putting in a unit from Kenwood that will run thru the nav screen - again a Kenwood unit that will fit in the stock location and replace the stereo, the nav, create blutooth functionallity, - the works.

I'll let you know how that works out in a couple of weeks.
