Wow, this is great info guys. Thanks. I've got a '98 LS 400 with a droopy hood. Been wondering which struts to get online and you've offered a ton of insight. :D

I owned a '91 Lexus LS 400 that had some electrical issues. No issues big enough to make me stop loving her though. The LS400 is a beast.
-The alternator burned out
-The battery would die well beyond warrantee
-The radio antenna would erect itself
-Catalytic converter issues (requiring expensive repair) that made it difficult to pass smog
The benefits of the car well outweighed any issues needing repair over the life of the vehicle. It was a pleasure to own.

Due diligence is key. Take it for a test drive or two. Let it sit and idle while you get out of the car and listen to the engine for any oddities. To be thorough, you should ask to take it to an independent mechanic and see what the 411 is. Yes, I'm sure the lot has it's own mechanics but just to let them know you're serious about getting the car because it will give you more leverage when you negotiate (i.e. I'm going to buy this car right now/today if you give me a worthwhile price). Hope this is helpful for you.
