  1. Last weekend I helped my mom purchase her first luxury car and it happened to be a 2007 RX400h with 69k miles. We did not purchase from a Lexus dealer so it is not "Certified Pre-owned" (not sure what that means or what coverage is included). During the financing portion, the finance lady offered us an extended warranty that was available if we chose to purchase. My questions:

What is still covered from the standard Lexus warranty? Considering the car is a 2007 with 69k miles. I am mainly concerned with the hybrid aspect of the vehicle as I am new to hybrids.

Is purchasing an extended warranty worth it? Has anyone had experience with an extended warranty from a third party?

Thanks all! Trying to help out my mom who is loving her "new" RX400h

A Lexus CPO (Certified Pre-owned) you cant loose..I have a RX and ES both CPO..With CPO you get 3yrs/100,000 miles, free warranty..
  2. A Lexus ES-350 Tire Pressure Monitoring Story

We are on a much deserved family vacation. Our 2011 Lexus ES 350 is purring like a kitten after a recent dealer visit. I had rechecked tire pressure all the way around. Tire pressure was correct on all four tires. The oil, water, and battery also checked okay. We are on the road having a great time but on the return trip home the dashboard tire warning indicator illuminates. We are out in the middle of nowhere (OR I-395 South.). I pulled over (at night) and pressure checked all four tires. Tire pressure checks okay. Hmmm could it be the spare? We spend Sunday night in Lakeview, Oregon. The next day is a holiday Monday so tire stores and service stations are closed so no dry nitrogen or even air available.

Now here is the rest of the story. We pull into Reno CA and proceed to pull a lot of vacation stuff out of the trunk at the third or fourth service(?) station, one that actually had air. This had to be done in order to gain access to the spare tire valve. The valve of course is at the very back away from you. I pressure checked the tire and found it down to 25 psi(!) Slow leak? Thorough check found the tire to be okay. What was the dealer doing during my regular service? They certainly overlooked checking the spare tire. Thanks guys.

My spare tire valve now has a short (male/female) truck tire air line extension (auto parts store) extending into the trunk compartment. I can now check my spare tire pressure without taking everything out of the trunk. I placed the original valve cap onto the extension when it’s not being used for a pressure test.

    This a great tip, Thanks....
  3. I am not happy with the toughness of the paint on my Matador Red 2010 RX350. It seems that the clearcoat is extremely soft and very easily scratched. Admittedly my color is one that easily shows even the slightest marks but I still feel Lexus paint is much softer and much more easily marred than clearcoats on other vehicles I've owned.

I am generally able to remove most of the mark with "scratch remover" (really just very fine polishing compound) and I am very careful when I park or maneuver the car anywhere near anything that could touch the paint. Also, I've stopped using brush-type car washes and now use only non-contact automatic washes or wash myself.

    Comments appreciated

I totally agree with you..Lexus paint is soft..The front bumper of the RX cant take hiway debri of any kind..You look at it long enough and the paint begans to melt..I only do xway driving as second choice..handwash is all i have done or do myself....
  4. Hey Jim, i check 2 things when it comes to extend warranty. how much do you drive per year n how long are going to keep the car..If you are a hi-miler driver n plan on keeping the car for 5 yrs or more, extended warranty is your best investment...this will give you peace of mind n keep your hands clean...lol
