  1. I changed the cabin air filter in my 01' RX300 myself this weekend. It took only 20 minutes to do and was very easy. I purchsed the replacment filter at Advanced Auto Parts for $25.00.

  2. does this mean it's only good until you HIT 50k miles? or for 50k miles more?

you won't have any problems until about 60-70k miles on an rx300

The original warranty is for 4 years or 50K. I haven't used the mileage so the time period is in effect and actually expires tomorrow. this is what the Lexus dealership told me.

  3. how many miles on your rx300 so far?    If you're close to 60-70K miles, get the warranty if you plan on keeping the rx over 80k miles.

My 1999 rx300 transmision (a $4400 job) went out at 79k miles. I wish i had the extended warranty. On my 2003 rx300 i got the 6 year warranty at purchase, but i ended up selling it last month because of all the other problems with it. Even if it was under a warranty, i hated taking it back every time it broke. It's just bound to happen sooner or later. It's safe to have.

    Hello,

Thanks for the info. I have 43K on my rx300. i got a price from Protective Insurance/ Costguard for $1,140.00 for 4 years or 50k bumper to bumper.

    Any suggestions?

  4. My 2001 RX300 manufatures warranty expires on Saturday. I currently have 43K miles. There have been no real problems so far. I really rely on my car and don't want to get stuck if something happens once the warranty runs out. I know Lexus is a great car company and has the reputation to back. I had warranty work done not to long ago to replace two servo motors. The cost would have been $840.00 if I wasn't covered under a warranty. That's scary.

Do you recommend purchasing an extended warranty. Who is the best company to get from? Anybody have any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  5. I have a 2001 RX300 with 42,000 miles. My questions: When is it recommended to replace the brakes and what brand to use. The brakes feel/ work great now but I don't want to wait and possibly damage the rotors. I can do this work myself so what brand should I use or any specific type?

    I appreciate any help.

    Thank you,

  6. My RX300 takes approximately 4 quarts of fluid when I do a drain and refill. I think it may call for 4.2 quarts or something like that in the manual.

The transmission drain plug takes a 10mm hex drive to remove it.

You will also want to replace the crush washer (metal gasket) when you do this so that you can be sure to prevent leaks.

The RX calls for Toyota Type IV and that is all I have used.

    Hi Tom,

Thanks for the good info. I picked up the tranny fluid today from the Toyota dealership. After you have drained the fluid from the bolt under the car, where do you add the new fluid?

    Thanks,

    Mark

  7. I have a 2001 RX300 with 36K. I'm getting mechanical "switching" noises from my center console area. Sounds like the servo motor is opening and closing the vents over and over while the car is parked and in motion. I suspected it was the servo motor and brought it to the Lexus dealership to look at it under warranty. After looking at it they told me it was a normal noise and there was nothing wrong. The noise still persists and i'm very supicious that there is a problem.

Any one else experiencing this or have any reccommondations.

    Thanks!
