  1. I bought a 2002 LX470 two months ago (13,000 miles).  I have been a BMW fan for 10 yrs and my wife drives a 2004 Ford Expedition.  The LX is as comfortable as a 7 series BMW; has handling qualities comparable to the M series BMW and makes driving the Ford Expedition feel like you are driving a roller skate on ice. If you want the most satisfying vehicle experience available, in my opinion you cannot do better than the LX.  Everything I have heard about reliablity and resale value only adds to the satisfaction.

Handling comparable to the M series BMW? Come on! I can tell that you like the LX (so do I). The LXis still a SUV, not a sports car. BTW, the best handling SUV out there is the Cayenne (but it is still an SUV, not a 911!!)

  2. I have a treo 650 and works great in my lexus lx470

Can you please be more specific? I had read that the Treo 650 and the LX had troubles. Here are a few questions for you:

    1. How do you place a call while moving?

    2. How easy it is to transfer numbers from your Treo to the LX? (I have over 500 numbers in my Treo 600, but I am considering the 650).

    Thanks!

  3. Is it possible to install a OEM Navigation system into a 2000 LX470? Maybe using the one that is installed in a 2001 LX470? How should I go about doing this?

I do not believe that they are compatible. You might want to search the archives in this forum and also the clublexus.com forums. Someone was inquiring about spending big bucks to do this. The consensus, as I recall, was that it was not worth it. You are likely to be better off finding a third party solution that will fit your vehicle and can have many more features than the OEM system. After all, the Toyota/Lexus navi system installed in the LC/LX is nothing to write home about.

  4. I hate to say but the voice control on my 2004 LX470 is the worst. It always seems to want to turn the POI settings instead of what I want to do. After a few weeks, I simply stopped using it. It has no training available which was a mistake as it needs it badly.

    I agree with you 100%.

FWIW, I test-drove an Acura RL recently and its navi system is a charm. A fully integrated navi/audio/climate/phone that actually works and does as you say. Quite impressive. Add to that full bluetooh capabilities and real traffic updates and you have a true winner.

Hear me out Toyota, I am waiting out for the new body style of the LX/LC, but despite having owned three of these babies in a row, I will NOT upgrade to the new body stile until they fix their crappy navi system.

  5. This is what I think is going on: car companies (including Toyota) are NOT in the business of manufacturing GPS equipment. So they have to outsource the navi system to third parties (Alpine, Delphi, Denso and others).

The GPS equipment manufacturing companies are likely to have products with many features, however the car manufacturers are primarily looking for a product that can do the navigation but is not very expensive (they rather keep the profit than passing it on to a third party). So the GPS companies offer them a stripped version of their best products and we (the buyers of the vehicles) are likely not to know any better since we presume that since it came with the car, and it has a big screen and nice colors it has to be best out there. I bet many consumers think that the OEM nav systems in these cars are tops. We are being duped!

  6. system is a joke....i gave up on it after one day

    permash,

Thanks for the input. Your feelings reflect mine exactly. I is hard to believe that a $70k vehicle comes with such a junky navi system.

Just yesterday I had to travel to MD and the navi system chose to take me through the middle of downtown DC with literally dozens of stop lights! Needless to say the timing was way of! (My wife did the same trip using another navi system and, appropriately, took her around the beltway).

I have a stand alone Garmin 2620 that I am considering carrying with me to use instead of the piece of junk that Toyota puts in these vehicles. I do not know who makes Toyota's Navi system, but you can tell that Toyota certainly went the cheap route on these navi systems and it shows! Toyota should be ashame of letting these luxury vehicles out the dood with such crappy systems.

  7. My navigation works fine but about 100~150 yard off.

For example, when I arrive at my home, navigation says you arrive your destination even my home is like 5 houses away.

I know there is calibration but I don't know how to use. No manual can be found.

    Please help me.

    Thanks.

My navi system does the same. This has to be one of the worst navi system I have seen. Hard to believe that a $70k vehicle comes with such substandard navi system.

Also, how is your voice activated command working? Mine only seems to recognize a few commands and only after I repeat it 3 or 4 times. When you add the fact that it will not let you operate it while moving I am about to declare it a big piece of JUNK!

  8. It is the same on the 2004.

Zube, are you 100% sure? I was thinking of taking the info to a local audio installer and see what they could do.

I tell you, the navi system in these LX/LC have to be one of the most cumbersome and least user friendly that I have ever seen. Once you experience a true state-of-the-art, voice activated and fully integrated navi system (like the one in the new Acura RL) you realize how antiquated the navi in the LX/LC really is. I am willing to give Toyota/Lexus one year to see what they come up with on the 2006 model. If they do not drastically change their navi systems I will be one looking elsewhere.

  9. Did anybody from LX owners drive Cayenne ? How do you compare with LX ?

I can compare a LC and a Cayenne having driven both in the city/country roads. The Cayenne drives like a car (a sport car!). It is fast and feels very solid. It is pretty luxurious to me. It does NOt have a third row of seats and is smaller than the LC/LX. The ride is stiffer.

The newer LC/LX drive more like a car (MY2004). A MY2000 LC that I used to own felt like a boat with lots of body roll. The Lc?LX do NOT drive like a sports car.

I cannot tell you about the off-road capabilities of the Cayenne. The LC/LX is a world-renown SUV with tested off-road capabilities.

I would highly recommend the extended warraty for the Cayenne if you plan to keep it longer than 4 years.

  10. I just purchased a 2004 LC (LX470) and find myself a bit frustated with the built-in shortcomings of the navegation system. The system has been designed in a way that once you set a route and start moving you cannot set a new route unless you stop the vehicle! What a joke!

I have a plug-in, use-anywhere navegation system (Garmin 2620) that has more versatility, more POI, and a much better user interface than the poorly implemented nav system in this truck.

I wonder if I am in line for more surprises with bluetooth as well!

    Just venting!
